So I'm not from round here, this was my first time visiting the quintessentially British Lincoln. As I was simply exploring a new place with a friend, we had the luxury of seeking out the best coffee and cake.
Coffee Aroma is such a cool place. I live in central Manchester, as such I am blessed with an abundance of artisan coffee houses and hipster hang-outs. However, Coffee Aroma is different. Lincoln's central architectural style lends well to creating a kooky yet cool coffee house. Three distinct areas spread over two floors to sip quality espresso. We sat in the window on the top floor, the perfect perch for tourists like ourselves. When we weren't looking at the window, the wall opposite us was decorated with anonymous secret postcards. If you don't know what I mean, Google 'Frank Warren, Post-secret', it's very interesting!
Anyway, most importantly the coffee here is top notch. Like, seriously good. The combination of the cool ambiance, 'hasbean' coffee and excellent baristas that know their stuff resulted in a wonderful. The multitude of barista championship certificates on the wall are a testament to that. I has a flat white, poured to perfection. I almost always have my flat white, so i feel I'm a reasonably good judge of that! My friend had a cappuccino. I especially enjoyed how they served the cappuccino as a split double shot, a single with the traditional cappuccino ratio of milk accompanied by a single espresso. This allows you to try the espresso's distinctive flavor profile both black and with milk, as well as adjust the strength of your beverage to your taste.
The cakes on offer all looked delicious. It was a tough choice. Both the salted caramel cheesecake that I opted for and the salted caramel cake that my friend had were gorgeously decadent. If I ever go back, the pecan pie looks lush.
The only negative thing to say about this place is the price. It's more expensive than any of the trendy Manchester coffee houses, which I wasn't expecting. however, I do understand that it's a tourist hub and I really didn't mind paying the price, when the quality of what I received is considered. read more
