Confusingly, the old sign with the old name on it remains up outside, alongside the new one, which means there's an odd combination of brand identities. Apparently, new owners took over the café and wanted to make their own mark on it, introducing the new name - yet even the coffee cups still say 'Urban Espresso' on them! In every other way, the café remains pretty much as it has always been, with quite a few tables inside, plus some chairs and tables outside both at the front by the high street, and to the rear in a garden area. The coffee is pretty good, the staff are generally friendly, and they serve brunch and lunch, too. I've never eaten a meal here, though, so I can't review the food - but the cakes are all quite tempting and I thoroughly intend to try one next time! They do take-away, too, which is great if you're off to Keynsham station, which doesn't have any snack bars or coffee places of its own.

However, I found that the staff member that served us was a little rude. I asked for a highchair and I was told that she'd find one out for us, but that never happened. We sat outside which was pleasant though the garden plants were a little on the dead side. The drinks we had were nice, but a large coffee means more water, not more coffee! There is a wide range of drinks available. As for their food...their sandwiches looked nice, but the other savoury food had clearly been left out for too long. I wouldn't tryeating it for fear of getting a bad belly. The cakes are nice, but they are too sickly. They either need to address that or make the portions a little smaller. My little boy had a giant cookie with smarties on it and it was very dry he wouldn't eat it. Overall the place was not too busy and not too quiet. It feels a little snug and cosy, but the back garden area if spruced up a little would be a wonderful place to escape with a drink and a cake, with or without company! I know the staff member that served me was a little rude but we all have bad days, and the other members of staff were more than delightful! The food was edible and the drinks drinkable, but it was nothing near as special as I was hoping it would be!

I've wanted to go to Beese's since a friends showed me a photo about a year ago. I finally made it…read morethere last weekend and it was everything I was expecting and more! It was about a 20 minute walk from my mates house and incredible to think that you can get from St George to somewhere so lovely in a few minutes. Not that St George isn't lovely, but, um, you know what I mean! We got to the pub and had to call them to get someone to pick us up on the boat - which is the only way to get to them from the other side of the river. We sat outside and luckily for us (maybe not for some) there was some background music from a 40th party at the other side of the garden - which I loved, but some might not! The bar menu was pretty basic, but not short of your standard largers, beers, ciders and top shelf spirits. Food wise the menu was good. Nothing fancy but a decent selection of pub grub: burgers, wraps, steak, chips etc all nicely cooked. There were quite a few dogs in the garden which again I really liked. I don't have a dog but if I did then I'd definitely take it for a walk and 'spontaneously' stop here for the rest of the afternoon! I walked to the bar at one point and there was a mother duck with 4 little chicks running around the garden. I'm used to living in the city so I'm definitely not used to that; it was great! I hope summer never ends so I can go back to Beese's and sit in the garden every weekend!

Situated on the banks of the Avon, its a tea shop and riverside bar all rolled into one quaint package - great for a date or a light lunch with your nan! The full cream tea is less than £4 and they do a stonking BBQ too, with delish veggie alternative like double portobello mushroom burger with halloumi. Best of all, I like hopping on the Conham water ferry after my lunch, fare just 25 pence across the river and dogs go free! What's nice about the riverside cosiness of it is the history. The old Mrs Beese opened it in 1846, the captain of the ferry was Mr Beese. The decking area is chillax central, and they'll even erect a marquee for your wedding reception. Aww.
