And while we…read morestayed at a high-end hotel for that entire week, I made the mistake of parking my car under a tree. Well, a few days later, my car looked like it got bombarded by a squadron of pigeons. The day we headed back home, New Years Day 2022, was the day every car wash in Baja, and in Sonora, decided to close. So I drove across the border, and stopped at the first gas stations that featured a drive-thru car wash. This Speedway station didn't look too packed at all. I walked in to their convenience store, and bought their top-of-the-line drive thru wash. The patrons as well as the workers here were very friendly. I then made my way back to my car, and drove around to sit in line for the car wash. This took far more time than I expected, and my wait was exasperated with the fact that I was hangry. But nonetheless, cleaning the mess those pigeons made on my car was a higher priority. Once it was my turns to go into the car wash, I input my code on the monitor on the left, and I drove in. The process was slow, but I soon learned the wait was worth it. While this drive-thru car wash looked antiquated, it turned out to be far more effective than the drive-thru carwashes back home. My car looked clean and shiny, and not a single bit of grime was left. Other pluses to this station are: lower gas prices (this is Arizona, where the residents don't get taxed like we do in California), nice locals, clean station, safe surrounding area. Whether you visiting Yuma, or just passing by, this is a good option for gas, snacks, and a car wash.

My, my, my. Have I been gone that long and haven't walked into a Circle K in ages? They now offer…read morefresh ground, fresh brewed coffee of different types. My fave, of course, is and will always be Colombian 100%. But they have the usual culprits--House blend, vanilla, hazelnut, to name a few of what I did see. There is a bit of a learning curve when it concerns the operation of the coffee machines--or it's just me. First, it is all touch screen now. You must pay extra careful attention and due diligence because if you don't, you may have picked up the wrong size cup, or the wrong type of coffee you want to grind, or not notice that the coffee bean you chose is not available. Then you will end up waiting around, scratching your head and wondering why the darn coffee hasn't started dripping yet. Luckily, there was a young lady and her daughter who, together with me, figured the whole thing out before I could. The ubiquitous iced coffee dispenser is also there, but this time you do need to push the button in with a bit more passion and conviction--because if you don't, nada happens, once again. You learn something new everyday. We can't run away from high tech, especially since she has come to the Circle Ks of the world and everywhere else. I pity the less than tech savvy folks, but then again, I still yearn for the percolator, and/or the tea kettle days of getting up early enough in the morning, and waking up to the smell of the coffee. Remember those Folger's TV commercials? I especially love the one of the girl waking up, running downstairs and finding her soldier brother coming home from deployment, and he was just brewing coffee. My memory probably isn't so accurate, but that certainly would make for a perfectly sentimental coffee commercial, I think. Caveat emptor--don't go here if 1) you're in dire need of a nitro brew-strong coffee to rouse you from a zombie-like state (party hangover, late night work shift, cramming for a finals exam, etc.), because who has the patience to fiddle with touch screens and making so many decisions as to which coffee to grind, especially at 6 in the morning; 2) there is a power outage--in this case, you're just SOL. Overall, a fun adventure on a Sunday morning, on my way to the laundromat.

Always a pleasant surprise whenever you see a Maverik coming to town…read more Whenever we visit Yuma, AZ we frequent the Love's just south of the fairgrounds. Well, now we will be splitting our time with the presence of a new Maverik directly across from Love's. The employees were so nice and friendly and the store was stocked full of great stuff, like you'd expect from Maverik. We travel a lot and know that Maverik has competitive gas prices, a great rewards program, and clean restrooms for travelers. My wife and I had been hosting a Lego Experience at the Yuma County Fair and heard that we were featured on the front page of the Yuma Sun. We were able to get some copies from the newsstand at Maverik and talk to the clerks about our story. They were wonderful and congratulated us about it. Definitely planning on going to Maverik the next time we are in Yuma.

I found the inside of the store pleasing to the eye and senses; from the clean concession/coffee area (sugar free syrups? A big win), the soda machine with all the bells and whistles (flavor shots, two different selections of types of ice) self service kiosks and a big hot food section. I was gonna get the app for extra reward point collecting but the reviews were iffy, so that's a pass. But the store is a "go."
