Pandora Tour Puerto Rico - Bird Trail at El Portal, El Yunque Rain Forest

Pandora Tour Puerto Rico

**This is a fairly long review - but highly informative!**…read more I booked an El Yunque hike with Pandora a few months ago based on some reviews I had read - and my wife and I are glad that we did! Our driver (and owner of the company) was Eddie. I got a couple of follow up texts and emails from Eddie confirming our pick-up time and a text 20 mins before we were supposed to get picked up...gotta love that follow up! We started out for the hike about 10 mins earlier than expected. We were supplied with water, soda and fruit for the trip. Along the way, we were given a lot of information - current and historical - on the areas we were driving through and the island in general. Once we got there, we watched a video on the rainforest that really tied together the information we had received on the ride in. We then trekked it up the mountain in the van until we hit the trailhead. The hike from the La Mina trail was amazing! So many photo-ops, plus there's a waterfall (wear shoes good for hiking and water of you're going to swim). The trail was mostly down-hill and paved....but it was closed at the waterfall, so the walk back was uphill and a little rough. Don't let that deter you ....We wouldn't have traded the experience for anything! After the hike and more photos on the way down the mountain (which lasted about 90 mins total), Eddie took us over to a local eatery near the airport...the food was great and cheap (even if we got the world's worst waitress! LOL). After lunch, we headed back to the hotel. Eddie asked us what we were getting into the rest of the day, so we told him we were headed to Old San Juan for the afternoon. Eddie offered to give us a ride down there (which we gladly accepted). He allowed us time to go up to our room and change before we left. He picked it's up in his personal car and drive us over...still giving us great information about the island, and also life - advice we will surely cherish. He left us near the docks - and I must say, it was a little sad ending our time with him. It was like being with an Uncle you haven't seen in a while. He really takes care of people, and seems to genuinely enjoy what he does. He puts a lot of hard-work into perfecting his craft as an excursionist and it really shows. I know it has already been said in another review, but we honestly do feel like we have made a friend in Puerto Rico, and will definitely be calling WHEN we come back! Thank you very much for your time today, Eddie...We thoroughly enjoyed it - you made our vacation extremely memorable and special!

My wife and I researched various tours and decided that Eddie was the one because he was willing to do a private tour with just us two to the top of the rainforest and Bacardi Factory. He went out of his way to make sure we had a blast! Our morning started with him picking us up promptly at 8:00AM at our hotel. He had fresh fruits, cold water, great service, and very good conversations. The night before he made sure we had all we needed before booking with him so we were all set as soon as we jumped in the van. He told us all about El Yunque and what we would see, while taking his time driving the crazy streets of Puerto Rico. Once parked, he made sure we stretched and took a few pics of us before starting the hike. We went through the trails taking all the time we needed since it was very muddy and wet. We went all the way to the highest rock and spent a few minutes admiring the view; then we went back down to see Mt Britton. He took a bunch of great pictures of us as we went through the trails and shared them on dropbox when we were done. After El Yunque he took us to Bebo's BBQ in San Juan which was phenomenal (he said it would be)! He then took us to the Bacardi factory and patiently waited for us to take the tour, all this and it was his birthday! We had a full day with him. He showed us interesting areas of San Juan on the way back to the hotel and we couldn't be happier! Eddie is a trusted, funny, respecting, fun, and caring tour guide! So much so that I feel we must contact him next time just to say hi and have a drink even if we do not want to go on any tours. One of the best things about Eddie is that he is VERY flexible with his schedule and he will take you anywhere (that is reasonable of course). I feel he is an excellent guide and companion which is great because Puerto Rico has gotten pretty dangerous over the years and it is best to be with someone who knows the area and the history, even if you just want to be cabbed around the island. We recommend Eddie and Pandora Tours with our eyes closed! We loved our tour!

We took the Spirits of Puerto Rico tour. The spirit being rum!…read more We had taken the night tour with Debbie a few years ago when visiting San Juan (which we enjoyed) so we thought we would give another one of her tours a try. And since we don't know anything about rum, it was also a learning opportunity. We indeed tasted quite a variety of rums - interesting to taste the differences in them - and a few cocktails as well as a anise liqueur mixed with rum ( this was quite yummy) that Debbie explained was a common drink in this area. The restaurant was El Asador. It was a very cute place decor wise. We enjoyed the food and there was plenty of it. First was a skirt steak ( tender, well seasoned and perfectly done) with a yucca and sweet potato combination. Then there was another course with chicken and vegetables, also very good. The highlight was the flan desert with 151 rum which was ignited to burn off the liquor. I understand the restaurants do change though and this may not be the place you go for dinner. My husband and I are not usually tour takers, we like to explore on our own, but we have liked these tours. Debbie knows what she is going to do and say, but it still seems more like your friend is giving the tour not just a tour guide and the evening seems to develop on its own as opposed to by a script. BUT she is also very meticulous in certain ways, and wants things in a certain order (and likes people to be on time). She will correct you to get things just they way she wants them. Doesn't bother me any (in fact i think it is quite amusing) but others may get their feelings hurt from time to time. Anyway this must be about the longest review I have ever written, but there was a lot going on as you can see. Bottom line is we would recommend both the night tour and the spirits of Puerto Rico if you are looking to learn something about the area.

The tour was "meh" compared to the walking tours from sandeman's. The tour is a good way to get oriented in the city but on our tight budged I would re-consider booking it. On the plus side, Debbie was extremely helpful and called in some people so we could get a reservation for another tour that we thought was booked. She also recommended a great place for dinner.

You get to move at your own pace and see what you want to see. Javier was excellent with the communication re-confirming the tour the night before and right on time for pickup. There were some concerns about rainy weather, but we lucked out with barely a sprinkle of precipitation. We first ventured outside San Juan along the coast, passing beachfront areas and smaller towns enroute to a nature reserve. It was refreshing as I had been to San Juan multiple times before, but never ventured all that much outside the San Juan city limits. After a delightful overview of the ecosystem, we went to the small town of Loiza. There we visited a waterfront multicultural center/gallery (Antiguo Ancon de Loiza) that used to serve as the historical water barge transport location for the city until a bridge was created to connect Loiza to the land west of the river. We then visited a natural cave area with these incredible local musicians largely consisting of drumming and singing (very unique and cultural). I didn't expect natural caves so close to the town & coast. We then visited a beautiful beach restaurant (Villa Pesquera Herrera) where there there's ocean out back and a river off to the side. It was here and central Loiza where scenes from the first episode of season 5 of the Netflix show Cobra Kai were filmed to portray a town in Mexico. I would have totally missed it if Javier didn't point it out. We then got a great overview of old San Juan and surrounding areas like Isla Verde and Condado. The tour of Old San Juan took us on so many of the winding cobblestone streets, with excellent coastline views. Javier was excellent in providing a historical overview of the city and how the fortifications were designed, playing a vital role in the defense of the city. With the private tour, we got to stop off for food and a delicious frozen treat at Señor Paleta in Old San Juan. We covered so many unique areas that I would never have stumbled upon if I hadn't taken this tour, and covered more ground than I did on both my prior 2 trips to San Juan combined. Javier was very accommodating to our needs and was informative and kind every step of the way. I wouldn't hesitate to book a tour with him again and will be recommending him to friends & family when visiting Puerto Rico.

We arrived on time and we were warmly greeted by the captain and 2 crew. After a basic safety briefing we charted out towards Culebra in overcast weather. Instead of Culebra we settled on the uninhabited beach of Caya Luis Pena before Culebra with crystal clear waters in about 20 minutes. The waters were translucent clear turquoise and beach sand was pristine. Water temp was around 79-80F. Weather was overcast and comfortably cool. They laid out a simple light sandwich buffet for lunch with beers and tropical cocktails. Snorkeling, swimming and relaxing for a few hours, we spotted small schools of fish and a very cool bachelor Stingray circling looking for scraps. Crew was incredibly friendly and helpful and everyone enjoyed the short beach visit. The return trip was much smoother and after jumping back on the bus we were able to stop by a bbq joint for coconuts and fried stuffed empanadas.

It was a quick and easy, family-friendly snapshot of what El Yunque has to offer without the stress of driving, guessing what supplies are needed, etc. It was certainly off the beaten path, and Narayan's 17 years of experience was on full display here. And yes we did some cliff diving too. I think what sets Narayan apart is that he was extremely detailed in what to bring and what to expect for the trip. I think we actually over-prepared a bit but it was obviously better than coming back all soggy and muddy. The option of being picked up (all of us were) was super nice as well, but the preparedness needs to be mentioned. Narayan is your go-to guy for an introductory experience at El Yunque, or other PR attractions based on this track record.

Thanks to Rafael and his wonderful family I have fallen in love with Puerto Rico again. Rafael's vast knowledge of the history of Puerto Rico, religion, and the hot spots across the entire island provided an amazing tour of approximately 75% of the island in our 3 days. Not only did we get to experience the most beautiful areas of the island but also got to enjoy the best of Puerto Rico's culture and food. We felt safe at all times due to Rafael's professional security and previous experience in the US Army. Prior to our arrival, Rafael worked with me to determine a customized travel plan that not only included excursion specifics but also airport transportation, travel assistants, and concierge services. He also reviewed a detailed list of items, such as, age of family members, medical conditions, activity and food restrictions, etc. Rafael is extremely professional, always on time and has great communication skills in both Spanish and English. You can trust his 7 year old son Daniel when he says, "Your wish is his[Rafael] command." Our excursions were 8-12 hours each day and throughout our trip Rafael and his family made us feel like a part of their family. He definitely loves and enjoys his job leading us and educating us about the forest in Puerto Rico. He speaks really great English as well and he was super easy to talk to if you had any questions or concerns. The overall experience is amazing. Beautiful scenery on the way there and in the tour. Make sure you pack lightly. All you need is a camera and good outdoor shoes that you can get wet. It wasn't a difficult hike but you have to be aware of slippery rocks. Don't step on the green rocks or the biggest rocks because they're very slippery and you can really hurt yourself and can ruin your trip. You don't need to bring bug spray as well. Once you get picked up by the bus at the North Plaza Loiza, 15 minutes away from Old San Juan, it takes about an hour to reach to the rainforest. I would say bring light snacks just in case because that food isn't included. They do take you to this restaurant nearby later and the meals cost about $17 per person. They serve rice, chicken, pork and macaroni. The food was like 3/5 for me. The pork was too salty and the yellow rice was alright. Well anyways... the trip was worth it.
