I ordered the rice bowl with shrimp and they forgot my shrimp which they fixed. My friend ordered the chicken sandwich and the chicken looked like one chicken tender on a big bun. We have eaten lunch and dinner at Coconut numerous times. This past weekend we finished lunch and stopped at the bar to have some more drinks and watch one of the soccer games! Everyone is always pleasant and depending on the time you can grab a table right away. Obviously there is times were we have waited and you can sit outside while you wait. Some of our favorite apps have been the calamari, the lemon ricotta spread, their wings and I always get the Cove salad. For entrees we have ordered the Island bowl with chicken, the chicken sandwich the steak with chimichurri sauce and we have also had the filet with asparagus and mash potatoes. The food is full of flavor and always consistant. For drinks we always have the blueberry mojito, watermelon martini and the Cove colada. The drinks have been hit or miss. I personally like to taste the Liqour! As for deserts we have had the key lime pie, the mousse and the coconut cookie with coconut ice cream! Dinner on a Wednesday at 5:30 PM IN-SEASON, table of 7, four adults 3 young kids. Experience was fantastic from easy parking to friendly host stand and prompt seating on the patio. Good service, plenty of staff. Lots of variety on the menu. The owner, Jeremy, stopped by the table to check in, realized he also owns/operates the daily grind and un-wined which we know from experience run like a well oiled machine. Food was great, kids chicken tenders & buttered noodles, good quality Filet over broccolini & rice, tile fish was the special, cooked perfectly, and the chocolate mousse was 10/10. Service was great, they have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We came on 4th of July and were sat immediately. They have a large bar as soon as you walk in with a dining room attached to the left. Their strawberry basil cocktail was alright but very sweet. The coconut shrimp appetizer was delicious and the shrimp were large and tasted delicious. My husbands fish sandwich was alright but the portion of fish was on the smaller side. I enjoyed the tacos, you will need to ask for ketchup/ dipping sauces for the sides when ordering. Management came by to check on all the tables and was super friendly. They do have a parking lot for their patrons which is nice as parking on the island can be hard to find. read more

First weekend this place is open and it was packed! They had the best drinks! I had a virgin coconut mojito which was a perfect amount of all the flavors. My husband had the island punch and said it was a perfect tropical blend of ingredients and refreshing. For apps we had the coconut shrimp with a delicious ginger aioli. The shrimps tasted fresh and were a decent size. The calamari had a nice light breading on it. The cabbage slaw underneath had a little kick but was perfect! For dinner I tried the blackened catch of the day (Mahi) with was perfectly seasoned and the coconut rice was not too overpowering. My husband said his shrimp tacos were filling and a decent size. We had a great dinner at Coconut Cove in Surf City! It's a perfect spot, especially if you're staying on Topsail Island. The coconut shrimp was absolutely delicious, the cocktails were refreshing, and everything we ordered was so good. Outstanding new restaurant. I have probably been there 5 times since they opened. It is consistently really good. The watermelon martini is fantastic. Love the Conch Fritters and some of the best fried oysters I have had. Had salads twice that were really fresh! Twice had the blackened fish which was swordfish both time done different way and both were great. This is one of them reviews you hate to write but they deserve because it is going to get so packed we won't be able to get in. read more

Returned for a scheduled visit this time. The staff was very energetic, taking individuals' orders and the vibe was great. Started on that calamari salad again (Gotta try it!!). very cute remake of a former fast food restaurant. Everyone was so friendly, including our wait staff Anna. We ordered the fish tacos and the fish sandwich. What a disappointment to find that they only use the fried battered cod typical of many fast food restaurants instead of fresh fish from the ocean right next to the restaurant...cod is typically a frozen fish imported from up north. I just don't understand the choice of cod over local fresh fish. For the price, it should be local fish. Support our local fisherman, please. read more

Genuinely horrible service. TONS of staff walking around/ standing around, however no bartenders, servers, hostesses would even look at us when we came in an hour and a half before closing time. We called ahead to ask if we would be able to place a To Go order and we were enthusiastically told yes on the phone, just to be told that they "weren't supposed to do that" by a hostess (after we finally got her attention). We ended up being able to order from the bartender who would barely even look at us. These people clearly lack service skills and do not know how to make a customer feel welcome. We felt like a huge inconvenience while sitting there waiting on our food, which obviously is not the way you want to feel in a hospitality setting. Good location, cute decor, but with my first experience, I'm not sure that this will be one of my go to places on the island or one that I will recommend my renters to go to. Upon walking in for the first time, me and my two young children were overlooked by a few people for at least five plus minutes when the place was not super busy inside at all. When we were finally sat it was at a very awkward round table right in front of the door, leading to the outside deck which was very odd when there were PLENTY more tables available that we could've been sat at. Our server was good not very upbeat but got drinks and our order in a timely manner. Both of my kids got the chicken tenders and fries and both of them received a very small portion of not hot fries and two RAW chicken tenders. The server said she would get the manager and when the manager came over and said I'm sorry in a lack luster way and asked if she could have the kitchen make another batch and I said no I'm definitely not gonna risk it again if you can't cook chicken all the way that is deep fried I really will not be trusting that it's gonna come out cooked the next time. Also, the manager did not seem extremely upset or concerned that my two young children were just served raw chicken. She asked again if she could refire, but I said no please just take it off of the bill. As a manager there was a huge lack of genuineness. The shrimp burrito I ordered was just ok, nothing I would get again, way too much dressing and a ton of rice and the shrimp was too massive to bite into. Food is just lack luster at a high cost. Prices were that of a higher quality restaurant with better quality ingredients which was another pit fall. But I think with some tweaking of the menu, kitchen staff and maybe some real training for the staff and management on how to interact with customers this place could turn it around and have some success on the island. But I don't think as a part time resident of the island and a rental owner I will be coming back or referring anytime soon. I'll stick with the local favorites or cook my own meals which in my opinion is far better. read more
