Jim is the secret on St John that needs to get out. I go to Coco Jim's everytime I am on island and sometimes twice. He makes this smoked chicken that is tasty with great seasoning. He compliments the chicken with a southern coleslaw and potato salad. As if that is not enough, he makes a spicy Minestrone soup. And to top it off and wash down the great food, his Painkiller is a "Killa!" He now sells the Painkiller by the gallon. So Jim is a character. Maybe a lot to swallow. Anyway the jerking chicken is off the chain. We bout a gallon of pain killers which at $70 a gallon seems high but do the maths, no ice or delusion so it's an ok deal we think. We showed up out of the blue in the early afternoon. Like 130pm. Coco Jim greeted us with a big smile and asked us what we wanted to drink. We had to go with the famous pain killer, given he sells them by the gallon. They were strong and big! Handed us a bowl of complimentary house chili and told us to go sit in the shade while he made the drinks. The chili was so good. We had come back from a long hike and it was packed with ingredients, it was gently spicy, and had an amazing flavor. He came over to offer to take a picture of the two of us and he chatted with us about the habits of hermit crabs and sharks. He was great and so was the food. I would definitely go back! read more

Coco Jim's - the hidden gem of St. John! What an incredible place with an even better view experience! We stumbled upon Jim's place driving back from coral bay and are so happy to have found it. You'll see his signs advertising the best painkillers on the island and boy is that true! Night #1 we tried Jim's chicken noodle soup, smoked chicken plate and conch salad. All out of this world. The smoked chicken was some of the best we've had and the conch salad was so fresh and unique. Night #2 we came back the next night for the steak and lobster feast! It fed 4 adults with leftovers! A wonderfully smoked 3.5lb tomahawk steak, a huge lobster tail, homemade sides, and a starter of chili! The drinks were also so good. Both the painkillers and the wild jackass were very worthy of the "best on the island" claim. This was one of our favorite meals during our week vacation. Coco Jim's cafe is a hidden gem and a must experience for anyone coming to St. John. I know this cafe is a must go-to on our travel guide for trips to come. The lobster roll is store bought lobster salad which is 80% mayo 15% relish and 5% lobster. This man is an island treasure! We were able to make two trips to this small restaurant and we loved it. It all started with a bowl of his "minestrone " soup. An island adaptation of the traditional delicacy. We followed this up with some painkillers. These were some of the strongest, but best tasting on the island. Order these when you get there. His lobster rolls were creamy and well spiced. These were ordered both times. I am grateful that I was able to get his smoked chicken. The first bite hit me with a perfect level of smoke. As I chewed, I found the flavor of a delicious spice rub. It had a little kick which paired well with my painkiller. The biggest draw is the customer service. Jim? Started us with the soup and ended our meal with a couple of shakes for the kids. Keep in mind, this is not fast-food, but it is made with love and patience. This man took great care of us and we will certainly be back when we return to St. John. read more

First off... meow... The service was IMMACULATE, Jim was so nice and he gave us 2 FREE soup bowls, the place reminded me of something and it was extremely cozy. I felt at home, very welcomed and happy there with my family. The chicken there OH MY GOODNESS it was so good. It fell right off the bone and was so tender and flavorful. After we ate (we also were the only people there unfortunately because it's so good so go here!) he offered to take a picture of our family and it turned out great! Meow. He thanked us many times and we thanked him back, and he gave us a bowl of soup to go in a nice styrofoam container with a lid covered in foil, it was such a kind gesture. I felt great patronizing this restaurant because it's only cocoa jim but his food is amazing (so are the drinks) and he serves ruffles on the side which really makes me feel like it's a dad 4th of July cookout. Stopped on the way home from Coral Bay -- Jim was the best. Two bowls of unbelievable chilli and some amazing painkillers but the best part was definitely tbe BBQ chicken dinner... great flavor and fell right off the bone!! Love City at its finest! Don't miss Coco Jim's! Jim is an excellent, gracious,welcoming, chef/bartender/host. You'll love him and his food creations! We had freshly-made lobster rolls, potato salad, spicy smoked chicken drumstick, fruit punch with nutmeg---all perfect. There are two outdoor seating areas: a covered deck for needed shade on a hot day, and an uncovered area for sun lovers. The entire place is super-clean/ spotless!! I've had the good fortune to visit St J often; my sister lives here. So we've had meals at numerous places--many now gone-- over the yrs. St John needed another spot with delicious food. Encouraged by local word-of-mouth, we stopped at Jim's for lunch. On Centerline Road, Coco Jim's is easily reached from either Coral Bay or Cruz Bay. See you next time, Jim. We made a point to stop and support local coco Jim's. What an amazingly kind man with delicious food. With a group of people who strongly appreciate hospitality and the importance of customer service, coco Jim's motto and that customer service matters (was gifted this t shirt to remember it by) was so appreciated. Our group had the lobster rolls and chili dogs and all were overly satisfied. The drinks are no joke, painkillers rum punches and pina coladas had generous pours and had us spending quite a bit of time here. The peacocks were an added bonus to our visit. This is our last night on the island (sniff) and though I hope to post a trip report once we are home, I wanted to take the time to write a quick review of Coco Jim's food stand. You can find him on Center Line Rd a bit past Shambles and the Windmill Bar. We stopped to eat there after passing him day after day and seeing him waving each time as we passed. We are a family of five (two teens with giant appetites, a very picky preteen and two adults) and I was a little worried that his small menu might not work for our family. He offers burgers, hot dogs, chicken from his smoker and a couple of other things, plus drinks (including a mystery smoothie flavor). I am here to tell you that you won't meet a friendlier person on the island. He was so wonderful, giving my kids free samples of island grown pineapple and his chicken (which my 17 year old chicken lover declared the best chicken he has ever had). His burgers were outstanding, the best we had during our whole vacation (sorry, Skinny Legs!) and even my extremely picky eater ate every scrap. I had a delicious painkiller, everyone else had smoothies and we bought one of his fresh pineapples for dessert. I am only sad that we didn't discover him until our last day on the island because we definitely would go back for more meals. He is hoping to eventually sell shirts and hats. My boys would sure love one, so I guess we will have to plan another trip back to pick one up! If you pass his stand, swing by and grab some food. You won't regret it! read more
