I did not know what to expect. I visited Cancun a couple of years ago and didn't get a chance to go. So on this trip I made it a point to check out Coco Bongo. The package included roundtrip transportation, admission and open bar. Price was $75. We had a ball. It reminds you of Vegas because of the theatrics and live shows. The performers really get into character and really shows you a good time. They make it interactive too with the crowd which is fun. My favorites were the LMFAO and Bruno Mars performances. My last day in playa de Carmen and I wanted to get some souvenirs for my friends. I didn't even go in this club I went to the gift shop of the club. This is the only place the whole time I was there that I used my credit card. I Bought two coco bingo caps. The guy picked up a credit card machine off the floor there are like 20 of them laying on the floor down there behind the desk. Of course he runs my card and then tells me that it's not working. I told him to try to again so he picked another machine up off the floor and tried it again. And then he said well the card is not working with this machine either. Coco Bongo, all I can say is that I had one of the most insane, crazy, totally bonkers night ever! And to think I though this was going to be another average, tequila drenched club that is so-so, just another version of a Fat Tuesdays/Senior Frogs etc. Nope, this place is off the freaking hook! If you are considering going, do it! But make sure to pay for your own private area (table preferably). On a busy Saturday this place is jam packed! Four stories high of adrenalin pumping, party like theres no tomorrow, and get into the show and get wrecked people from across the globe! The shows were great, totally entertaining. And they keep coming.... you expect it to be over, then another one starts. I especially loved the Batman showdown against Bane with Catwoman. Also well done on Phantom of the Opera and Chicago. Britney and Guns N' Roses were hilarious, and on and on. Oh, and the whole thing kicked off with a "little person" dressed as the Mask. When the show isn't on confetti is shooting, balloons are falling, they even had a machine that blew snow! If you paid for VIP I'd say you would not run into this problem, but at $125 per person you shouldnt. Tip your bartender $10 off the cuff; they will keep the drinks flowing to you all night. Fifteen minutes into the show we were kicked out of our seats again, so we decided to leave and ask for a refund. At this point a manager came to tell us that he would move us to a new location and we would be fine. After ten minutes of insisting on a refund we were handed off to another manager who gave us the same argument. We were carted around to 4 separate "managers" who each refused to give us a refund. So I'm at the party pool at the resort and they're pumping this place up as, "puts Vegas clubs to shame...CNN" I don't know what clubs in Vegas CNN and these peeps have been to, but even Circus Circus, with 2 year olds roaming the gaming floor at 4 am, is 100 times better than this shithole! We were shuffled in and immediately my only thought was, "how the hell will anyone survive a fire or any other emergency evacuation in this joint?" Any package you buy, except for the VIP, limits you to the minimal perimeter of the stage, which is set in the middle of a makeshift arena. There is nowhere to dance. There is nowhere to sit. Shit, you'll be lucky if you can make your way to the restroom. The alcohol situation is a scam. You're told there are only 3 exclusions: red bull, Champagne, and Jaegermeister. Surprise! Everything is excluded form the all inclusive except for beer and low grade tequila and cheap rum. Save your time and money for Xplor park or Blue Parrot Beach Club. The positive reviews must be fake because no person could possibly enjoy this squalid fire trap. We paid $113 through Sun Wing, our travel agency, for tickets and were provided with a voucher to exchange. Sunwing provided a voucher which we were to exchange with a representative, who failed to meet us at the agreed upon time, for actual tickets. This event was intended to be the big bachelorette night out and we ended up waiting for hours in three different lines dressed in our black cocktail dresses and heels and having altercations with the various Coco Bongo staff. We emailed our representative who told us to go drink (WHERE? WE'RE WAITING IN A LINE!!) We finally got in to a packed venue where surprise! there is no seating for this "show" which consists of mostly watching other tourists dance on platforms with less than 30 minutes of choreographed show. You will be packed in like sardines, and trampled and pushed around by everyone, including the staff. One of my toes was so badly squashed that it is now purple, nail and all. We literally couldn't move and stood under a fire exit (one for 4 different levels) because we felt so unsafe and uncomfortable. If there is ever a fire, most of the patrons would die! The actual choreographed show has zero artistic value. I am lucky enough to have attended many performances, (all of which costed less than $113 USD for a (seated) ticket: Wicked, Book of Mormon, Phantom of the Opera, Swan Lake and even Hamilton) and can now appreciate the artistic value, taste level and humanity that the arts bring to society. This is not art, it is trash. Coco Bongo is just another fixture of the rapey and exploitative tapestry that is prevalent across Playa Del Carmen and Cancun. Our travel agent is putting this disaster on SunWing, and suggesting we wait to hear back whether they'll make this right (it is now over one week later), but Talk of the Town/ SunWing provide the ultimate endorsement by recommending and selling Coco Bongo. Cannot say enough how much I enjoyed my evening at Coco Bongo. First, what a show! The acrobatics, the music, the entertainment was over the top delightful. Definitely need to come expecting to leave with your ears ringing and legs aching because it's impossible to sit through this show- every bit of you will want to get up and dance! We can expecting to hop around a little, but I never expected to get to run up on stage, dance with Beetlejuice, take shots in a congo line, or show up on a dance cam. It was somewhat entertaining but we were really wanting to go out dancing. For $300 I would expect more room, but you are literally squeezed in like sardines. Don't regret experiencing it but certainly wouldn't do it again. Also be aware the girls walking around offering shots of tequila even though you could drink tequila all you wanted that is included in the price if you take a shot from them you find out it's five dollars or 100 pesos. To sum it up: entertainment shows are great, the music is awesome (mix of American and Latin current and old hits), the prices suck, the drinks are terrible (don't get the open bar package), the crowd is filled with tourists, and their security is mostly there to help with entertainment rather than for actual security purposes. So, I came with a group of six. We paid $50 for the entry and all-you-can drink bracelet. It was so not worth it. I literally only had a drink and a half before I decided to quit for my own good. I was sober AND I still ended up getting sick from the drinks that night. They were the worst tasting liquids I've ever tried--and that's a big deal considering undergrad college drinks weren't too glamorous. The show, however, was amazing and kept me thoroughly entertained. They had hilarious segments and others that were way cool. Even the guys that were with us really enjoyed it. There was singing, dancing, acrobatics, and fight scenes. And the characters were all super popular ranging from Michael Jackson, to Beyonce, to Spiderman, to random audience members. The security guards were way cool, and if they liked you then they helped you up on an elevated area where you could dance and have the best view of the stage. They didn't allow guys up there, which meant that even though a million eyes were on you, no creepers were able to get to you--unlike the actual dance floor. It's always nice to feel somewhat protected. Still, there was a super ratchet chick there that tried to start a fight with my friend several times, but she never got kicked out, despite security guards knowing. WTF? So, we opted to just stick to those elevated areas and eventually the b gave up. So, I'd most definitely go back. And although I'd pay $50 to see the show (you pay more for Broadway in NYC), I wouldn't pay it for the drinks. read more

We went here for a fun night on the town. After reading reviews on trip advisor I decided the only way to go was VIP. Once we got there I was really glad I paid the extra amount because there really wasn't much room in the lower area I could also see that it was hard for people to get drinks there because of the crowding. We had a bartender for us and about 15 other people so it was great and the drinks were flowing all night long, VIP drinks were also in larger glasses with better quality booze. The show was really fun, my husband loved it and we danced throughout the night. So, I have to give this place a 1 Star. Recently visited this place, purchased tickets via 3rd party. We had our digital tickets available. Showed our digital tickets and was ask to present an ID, ok cool no problem. Myself and daughters presented and then staff proceeded to take pictures of our ID. Now, we were told it was because we didn't have a print out of tickets which was false, we were also told by the staff member that they get a lot of people using counterfeit tickets which the counterfeit part may or may not be true. However, we observed everyone else showing digital tickets and asked others if photos were taken of their ID and they said they were not even asked for an ID, hmmm. Now, we voiced our concern with this chick, behind the counter, who waved her hand and brushed us off after telling us it was policy. Spoke with another staff member who couldn't explain why ours were photographed with personal cell phone cameras and others were not. There are two issues I have with this, one is identity theft risks and just having all my personal info on someone's phone and the other is, the fact that majority of the patrons were not of color and as we observed were not having photos of their IDs taken, let along being asked for IDs definitely made me feel some kind of way as if I was being profiled in some sort of way. I contacted Viator and they even informed me that they were even unaware of these practices, Viator apologized and reached out to coco bongo and was told the cell phone was a company phone and our information would not be used for illegal purposes, lol, now would they actually admit that it would be? I've traveled all over the world, used 3rd parties to book tours, events, etc. never had my ID photographed. The show was cool but not worth the risk involved with what happens to a persons when their identity is stolen, these practices are unacceptable. Needless to say I spent the day crossing my Ts and dotting my Is with my personal info! If you travel here, do not hand over your ID to these folks. Amazing amazing nightclub , so here is the thing - I didn't know what this was about so I checked online for tickets and everything online said sold out so I freaked out and ended up getting the tickets from these people on " la Quinta " for $75 which I thought was a good price because they said I would skip the line and get 11-3:30 open bar , ok so that sounded great - so I get there and my guy is no where to be found, waited in like for about 30 minutes , once inside it was difficult to get our tickets because our guy never showed , anyways everything worked out at the end and our group of 4 went in! The couple I was with got very annoyed and my friend started to feel claustrophobic so they left 10 minutes before the show started , it was just me and my husband , the minute the show starts - its just show after show after good music ! Amazing !!!!! I recommend to spend a little more and get a VIP table , we ended up at a table because we saw a couple we had met at a tour , and o m g ' the VIP table service was Awesome ! I ended up dancing on the stage 3 times and was even part of one of the shows ! It was a night to Remember ! It is a long night , wear comfortable shoes , and just enjoy the show ! It's an eye-opening experience! Really transformed my definition of PARTYYYYYYYYY! Let me start with something negative - the ticket selling & entry. Don't buy ticket online! Go haggle with promoters outside of the venue. Black are agencies while yellow are officials. A lady in black kept bothering us and saying $85 is the price for all and there's no table for VIP. Luckily we talked to more people in yellow and got a lower price. One thing that really made me mad is that: as we have 11 people, a guy came to me asking if we could go negotiate the price together. When we went to a promoter in yellow asking for a negotiation, the promoter said he could give the guy $50 for open bar but couldn't give us as "he's from Israel but you are not" WTF?????????????????????? But we finally got a good price ( $50 for 6 beers, $60 for 4 cocktails and $75 for open bar). The entry is shitty too. They let a lot of people who came later than us in. We waited for another 30min to get in. Sorry another negative thing: the open bar cocktail is SHIT. Too watered down. I'd rather buy beer. Everything else is AWESOME. They really know how to interact with audience: sometimes shooting confetti, sometimes balloon. All kinds of music from Guns n Rose, to MJ, to reggaeton. People are super nice too. Immediately four security guards go in and accuse him of doing cocaine. He has a prescription for medicine that he was taking. They shoved him against the shall and start carrying him out. The shows are unbelievable, especially the Michael Jackson one he looks so real! I would recommend getting a VIP table because the whole floor gets so filled with people that you cannot move. When they were finally letting people in we saw some girls getting in through a separate line we asked around and if you paid i think it was $20 more per person you could cut through. But we were so close to the line we just waited. When you walk in through the door they give you a drink to get the party started (all sugar lol) and for the wait because theres another line inside. The line wasn't too long though. Once you pass security you are greeted again but this time with a shot! (tequilaaaa) Then you're in! A show already started when we got in. They have shows like every 5 mins. And confetti all time! Ladies dance on the bar, which we did. Sooo fun! Drinks are free with your entrance fee so drink as much as you can! Bathroom is downstairs but its super clean with attendants all the time. Definitely a super fun experience! Come here for a great night, it wont dissapoint! Let me start by saying that this is a wonderful show. 150.00 a person will buy you a seat in the club, express entry with no waiting in line. Every person , even lower priced entry gets free alcohol. The alcohol drinks are watered down and you and your friends will not get a buzz. No one on our bus had a buzz after 51/2 hours of drinking in the club. Extra 40.00 a piece gets you bottle service.Once you are in the club, you will be hustled by girls to do 10.00 shots and photographers to buy pictures multiple times interrupting your show. "This place is a fraud, we tried to go to CocoBongo Playa for my bachelorette. My friends had pre bought 2 tables for a total of $1000. When we arrived to check in they wouldn't let us in because one of the cards that the table was charged on had been stolen. We showed bank statements and everything and still wouldn't let us in. They told us to call their 1-800 customer service number which once we called we got a message saying they were open til 8am in the morning, we explained that to the service lady (of course she knew this) and she said well then you have to come back tomorrow. We refused! We then asked to speak to a manager and were told she was busy and would have to wait 30 mins. 45 mins later, the manager showed up. We reexplained the entire situation and re-show the bank statement. We were finally told we could enter after pleading that we had already paid but not until they took photos of both our ID and new credit card and signed an agreement of some sort which they wouldn't let us read. This was completely sketchy especially because we had already paid for everything. We wouldn't do what they asked of course because It wasn't right so needless to say we never got in, after an hour and half. We paid $1000 and never got in. We called our bank to claim this as fraud because it is. The next day we ran into a group people at the Now Sapphire resort who had a much worst experience. They had paid via credit card and got in, but as they were trying to leave they were told they couldn't leave until they paid. They wouldn't let anyone leave, they pretty much keep them hostage in the room until they paid $2000 in cash (amongst 19 people including men). They said they were terrified. I am so glad we didn't go in that night because who knows what they wouldve done to us, it could've been so bad. I don't recommend this place to anyone DONT GO HERE read more

This place is terrible!!! I would have given it no stars if that was possible! My friends and I went to The Royal Resort in Playa for a birthday. We decided we wanted to go to Coco Bongo on the day of his birthday. BIG MISTAKE. We wanted a table and bottle service including open bar and we paid $92 US dollars PER PERSON! There were 8 of us. We go inside the bar and hand the guy our ticket for our table. It was about 2 minutes to show time and this place was PACKED. We stood with the guy for 20 minutes and every time we asked to go to our table he would say "one minute". One of my friends told him to give us a table or give us the ticket so we can get a refund. "One minute" he said again. At this point we knew there was no table. Sensing we were extremely pissed off he walked about 5 steps forward to the stage and continued to stand there and tell us "one minute". We took our ticket and left the club. Outside we found the person who sold us the ticket. I can't remember his name but he goes by JJ for short. We told him we want a refund. He basically told us to kick rocks. They gave us every excuse in the book why we didn't go to our table. JJ said "your table is there you can't walk around during the show" we told him the show hadn't started yet when we walked in and that is a BS excuse. Then another worker came out and said we had, in fact, gotten our table. Which was also BS. 8 of us were standing outside the club demanding our money back to probably 4 different people who worked there. Here is the kicker to the whole thing. A gentleman and his friend got kicked out of the club while we were demanding our refund. A worker hands him a REFUND right in front of our faces! The manager was out talking to us at this point and told us we will get a refund but it will be in Pesos. Naturally, we look up the conversion knowing we were getting screwed over again (it's over 14,000 pesos in case you were wondering). When she comes back she looks at our tickets for probably the 10th time and says "we don't give refunds". Mind you, this is about an hour after this issue started and after we saw them give someone a refund! So we continue to demand our refund and they told us they would refund the bottle price which came down to each person getting $10 US Dollars back. What a joke, right?! After hours of arguing we finally decided we weren't getting anywhere and it was time to move on. They got almost $800 out of 8 tourist. Good job to them. Save your money and don't go to this place. We all had confirmation emails with bar codes to scan for entrance. We arrived at 10:00 , the very first people to arrive, and they moved us from one line to another for 1 1/2 hours saying they have no record of our purchases, etc. Apparently confirmation numbers from Emails and scan bar codes are just for estheticS?? Only after that amount of time and a tremendous amount of frustration and stress did they begin to "miraculously" find record of our purchases!! It gets worse!! They "confirmed" these purchases by taking pictures of all of our credit cards and ID's, which left us completely uncomfortable with the security of our cards/identities! We were not wrong having these concerns as the very next morning we began to have fraudulent charges on our credit cards, adding up to over $1000!!!!! This place is a crooked, unsafe, and should be closed down!! We were at the Punta Cana location, not sure if they are all this horrific. DO NOT GO THERE!!!! We are currently looking into how to file some kind of formal complaint/police report in reference to this experience. Save yourself the nightmare!! I wish I could give this a negative star review!
