Luckily it was one of the few days of sunshine and good weather in WA, so I could enjoy laying in the grass. There is something here for everyone. BBQ grills, rugby/soccer fields, baseball/softball fields, basketball courts, trails, doggie doo bags, public restrooms, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, picnic shelters, child & toddler playgrounds and a skate park. It's very well kept and still looks brand new even though it's been around since 2004 I believe. Check this place out before summer is over.

The ground is the squishy astroturf stuff, which I think is nicer and more kid friendly than woodchips. There are clean restrooms available right next to the playground, with a water bottle filling fountain on the backside of that building. I've never seen a water bottle station at a park before (only normal water fountains) so that was cool. My only downside here: The playground area is completely open with no shade, so bear that in mind on hot days! When we visited it was in the mid-80's and we all got toasty quite quickly. There are two shelters with tables/benches available along the side, presumably mostly for parents and caregivers as the playground is so fun - good luck getting your kids to take a break from playing!

Parking here is easy and there's 2 different lots with a lot of spaces. The slides can be slippery i've seen babies go down and hit their heads or kids who are wearing certain kinds of material that make them slide insanely fast so definitely keep this in mind if you have babies/toddlers. Frye Cove County Park is on the Eld Inlet, which is close to Olympia as the bird flies, but driving…read morethere gives you the feeling of seclusion. There is one main road, Steamboat Island Road, heading up the peninsula that has consistent traffic, but not so much to think that you are actually close to the state capital. Leaving Steamboat Road, you head deeper into this forest. Frye Cove lies at the end of one of these roads. There were an assortment of smaller trails at the park that ran along the water. We did see one fisherman there, a fly fisherman, and I was going to ask him if he was having any luck but I noticed that he was trying to finagle his fly out of a tree. This didn't seem like the ideal time to ask him if he was having any success, so we kept walking. My inclination was confirmed in the parking lot. He didn't have any success. Except for the truly knowledgeable fly fishermen, flyfishing is more of a way to appreciate nature's beauty rather than to reel in big fish.
