While his office is clean and staff appear busy, don't let the initial impression fool you. If you're paying thousands of dollars for legal representation, you expect professionalism, communication, and commitment--but sadly, I received none of that. During the consultation, Mr. Cobos sounded impressive. He took his time, said all the right things, and gave me the impression that he would go above and beyond for my case. However, once I paid him, it was like dealing with a completely different person. Communication became almost impossible. It took nearly a year for him to even start filing paperwork, and when we finally went to court, he was clearly unprepared. What was most embarrassing was seeing the opposing side outmaneuver us while Mr. Cobos seemed uninterested in regrouping or addressing key issues. It felt like he did the bare minimum just to move on to the next paying client. I hired Cobos Law Firm based on the following facts: * local attorney so he has relationship with local judges * small but professional firm so i don't pay top dollar for a huge staff * responsive straight to the point question/answer not just a YES man. As a young business owner I truly believe in customer service and honesty. We are all here to make money: I get that, but when "shopping around" for the right fit attorney i came to a conclusion that no friend, and no referral will give me any $$ breaks, therefore i did my own research and picked Mr. Cobos based on the reviews i saw online, the fact that he is local, and the fact that he replied to customer reviews on social platforms himself, which showed me that he cares, and he is approachable. Sure enough when i had my initial appointment he gave me more information than the friends' attorneys or anybody else i was referred to. Some key points I wanted to mention for all who are looking to hire a divorce attorney in NJ: - listen to your attorney and don't ask stupid questions because you will just waste his time and yours = $$ - do research online about the main steps in the divorce, timing, preparation, lingo - be cautious of the word "motion" that means additional $$ - read online about the usual steps/phases of any divorce case, it really goes just like that and the sooner you and your spouse can find the mutual ground the more money both of you will save; try to have a sit down with your spouse to agree at least on something before you hire an attorney or proceed with any cross motions, if you do come up with something write it down, show it to your lawyer, don't sign anything until then. - very little changes after ESP panel so make sure or at least try to reach an agreement with your spouse right before that because if you don't get divorced before or at ESP there will be 3-4 months of wait until another hearing, which means continuous retainer - record and take pictures with your children every time you are with them, keep text messages from your ex, keep everything on record, it may be helpful later - do not be afraid to call the cops if situation gets out of hand during the divorce, again it will keep everyone at check - there is free help and consultations in your own county, do your research but just prepare yourself for a lot of work on your part if you decide to go the free route. To conclude all of the above: as all of us being extremely busy, and a lot of times having to work overtime just to provide I still highly recommend hiring a professional to handle divorce case.
