When Bob came to our house for my son's first lesson he was kind and knowledgeable, letting us know what to expect. My son had a great experience and at the end Bob spoke with us and gave us things to work on with him. All three lessons were amazing, he even gave us tips and tricks for the test and suggested which DMV to go to. Our son passed with flying colors and has a great driving record (he has been driving for 3 years). I am writing this a few years later because we moved away from Irvine and had to find another company for our daughter. Her experience was not as good and we did not feel that she was ready to be driving on her own even after that company signed off on it. I immediately called Varsity and they found her a time to work with Bob and we drove down to Irvine for it. In just two hours he taught her so much, he went through everything and corrected her previous instruction. She is a much more confident and safer driver because of him. As a broke college student, I was very reluctant to pay for driving lessons, but figures in my life told me it was best to drive with an instructor because they understand how to teach you the fundamentals of not only passing the driving test, but also the life skill of driving. My instructor, David, aka "Mr. Adventure," was nothing other than amazing. He distinguished what my weak points were as a driver and helped me understand what I really needed to improve on so I wouldn't be a squirrel on the road. Not only did I pass my test first try with flying colors, but I also feel as though I really understand how to be on the road. Coming out of this experience, I got exactly what I was seeking. I really enjoyed my time conversing with Mr. Adventure too, as he is a great and funny dude who made the experience undoubtedly better. Long story short- I recently got my DL so I'm not the most experienced driver in the world. I know most think driving is a breeze but I take it very seriously. After much deliberation I selected Safety First based on reviews. My first class was this past Saturday and after meeting Kurt I knew I made the best decision. Kurt was my driving instructor. He showed up 10 minutes before the scheduled class which I appreciated and he greeted me with utmost professionalism. I'm usually a nervous wreck while driving but this guy made me feel calm and confident and pretty soon I was actually driving safely on the freeway. He is a skilled instructor with lots of patience and he takes notes on items that need improvement. I felt very safe. This entire process from the registration with Sam (the manager) to the scheduling of classes was a seamless experience. Classes are booked in advance so you may need to spread your lessons over a few weeks which is fine. Practicing between classes is key to making driving techniques perfect. Once you sign the contract and pay (cash only, which raised my first red flag ), the promises quickly fade. They completely disregarded my schedule, offering lessons only at 4 am. (yes, am!), which meant I had to wake up at 3 am. If you can't make that work, they bluntly tell you it's your problem. The length of my training seemed to depend entirely on the owner's mood. My lessons stretched over nearly four months, with just one or two sessions per month. Before signing up, I explained that I wanted to learn on a manual transmission. His assistant assured me this was fine, saying many CDL students start without manual experience. I got one manual lesson, but then Norman convinced me to switch to automatic, promising I'd get my license faster and could continue manual training while working for him. This ended up being a trap, as he showed little interest in teaching manual afterward. In the end, I trained for almost 4 months and didn't pass. Lessons were so spaced out that by the next one, I'd already forgotten the previous material. If you enjoy unpredictable experiences, this school might be for you. But if you value your time and $3800 I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Be safe
