Coastal Magpie, Ocean Springs MS

There is all sorts of shopping within a few blocks in this area of Ocean Springs. Clothing, distressed decor, toys and games. I'm glad that Coastal Magpie ended up being the last of the shops we visited today as it was definitely the most unique. All sorts of interesting collectibles and semi-antiques. Texaco and Coca-Cola signs. License plates. Odd and unique decor items. The sort of stuff that dresses up the man cave. Very cool shop! During Triathlon we had to shop at Costal Magpie with in Ocean Springs Mississippi. Old and new items some amazing local artists pieces. We went home with nurse cards and a beautiful Christmas ornament of the Holy night in a oyster shell.

Coastal Magpie is a cool, funky shop in Downtown Ocean Springs. Even though I am an uncool funky dude, I really liked this shop and the area. Downtown Ocean Springs reminds me a lot of Downtown Bay St. Louis. Both downtown areas have a very artsy vibe with great food and shops within walking distance of one another. OS is a little far from me so visits here aren't as frequent as I'd like. Coastal Magpie is a shop like I would own if I owned a shop. There are all sorts of neat antique items including old signs (my favorite) and newer locally crafted items like soaps, pottery, and mixed media art. They also had a plethora of hand made soaps that my kids went absolutely nuts about. My youngest loved their goldfish soap the most because it looked like a fish you'd take home in a bag if your dad actually loved you (her words). The owners were super cool and helpful. You could tell they are very passionate about their shop, and the area in general. If it wouldn't have been for those pesky kids of mine, I probably would've stuck around and chatted with them more. I really enjoyed perusing this store and checking out all of the items for sale. We ended up only getting some of the soaps, but I know we will be back to explore further on our next trip to OS.

So, being totally honest, we had no intention of really exploring this store very much, and definitely not for almost an hour that we ended up being in here. The first thing you'll notice, when you walk through the door, is the smell. Genius on their part, because it totally sucks you in and consumes you. If you wander to the left to the wooden shelves you'll find the Kudzu display that has hand written signs all around proclaiming 'this is the smell that you are smelling'. Unique is probably the best word to describe this place. But, unlike some places that would get that kind of classification, this place is unique cool. From unique wall art that is made from old license plates, to metal sculptures of various types of animals, to a unique assortment of jewelry, to vintage post cards, vinyl, magnets, pet specific knick-knacks. Really spacious store that is well laid out and has stuff very well displayed and packed out throughout the store If there was any negative about the store, it's that the price point on a lot of the items is a little on the high side. But, that being said, it's great quality and very well made and worth the price point they have on stuff. If you're looking for a challenge, go in this place and try to get out without buying something. Factor in how nice and helpful the staff are, this pace is on my list to come back next time we are in Ocean Springs.

This store looked like just another art gallery from the street - almost didn't go in, but the heavenly smell from the doorway drew me like Toucan Sam after some Froot Loops! Turns out that was the famous "kudzu candle". It smelled more like muscadine to me, but the most appropriate word to describe it is "amazing!" I opted for the scent warmers and my boyfriend picked up a couple for Mother's Day gifts (he will get mega brownie points!) There is a lot of sculpture art and paintings and I thought it was pretty fun to look at everything (I'm not normally a folksy art type of person), and my boyfriend and two teenage sons were pretty amused looking around as well (if that tells you anything). There was also a lot of pretty, interesting jewelry. Very unique - if not one of a kind, close to it. Prices are pretty fair for the jewelry in my opinion, most of it was $20-50. I had a difficult time choosing just one piece! They had antiques pieces of all sorts, fancy soaps, nice postcards and magnets, more stuff than I can even remember! Coastal Magpie is definitely a place to stop in while you are visiting Ocean Springs ... you won't leave empty handed!

A lot of cool stuff. It's more on the expensive side but definitely has unique home decor or gift ideas.
