Well, the Ace supply side of the company is gone and from what I'm told, they have a new owner. I CANNOT believe the pricing changes. I really believe in supporting local but today was the end of that for SPI Hardware. I went to purchase an A/C filter, some deck screws, a few batteries and some bug spray. The prices seemed very high especially for the screws given that I had purchased some at Lowes recently. I decided to go across the bridge to Southerlands (10 minutes) and found all of it at half the price or less. I'm all for capitalism but that was outright 2x-3x over retail. I asked an employee about the screws and he simply said that everything costs more now. I got back and checked pricing against Lowes and Southerlands was a bit higher (10%) on a few products but nothing like I found here. I would have paid almost $100 more by staying on the island. Helpful hardware folks???? NOPE!!! I have been patronizing this place since we got here two months ago. Never again!!! I went there to get a small screwdriver/drill for the purpose of screwing in a cleat on a boat ramp. The employee seemed helpful and after determining I would only need it once or twice, recommended a small lithium battery operated drill. I got home and charged this piece of crap for 4 hours. I tried to drill into the WOODEN) pier and it barely made a dent. The screws would not even turn. To top it off, the battery popped out each time I attempted to use it. I took the drill back, along with my receipt the next day and I was informed that since the box had been opened, they could not accept it, or even exchange it. So ACE HARDWARE'S policy is if they sell a product that sucks, if you use it and determine it sucks, then you are screwed. Good policy ACE!!! Don't stand behind your products and forget about customer seevice. I was going to purchase a 300.00 outdoor skillet and other items but NEVER from them. They lost 400.00 plus, an a regular customer, to save the 40.00 EXCHANGE, not a RETURN, but an EXCHANGE for a better product. read more

Overpriced and they give bad information and they won't take returns. The guy told us that a part for the drain in our sink was one size fits all. we brought it home and it did not fit. we tried to return it and they won't take it back even though they told us one size fits all. Typical size ACE store. Staff is always friendly and usually knows where stuff is located. Not the most knowledgable staff but they try.

I own a condo on the island and have gone to this store a lot for parts, paint, and general hardware. Service is usually not great, but on my last visit it was TERRIBLE. Window screens take a beating down here and I've had to rebuild several of them. They changed store locations and I had to ask where the screen repair kits were located in the new store. First, I was told that they don't carry them - but I pushed back since I'd purchased several in the past and eventually, I located the kits. After I found them, the last kit with spring based stops was open and one of the parts was missing. When I pointed this out (it was only missing a single spring); the cashier told me that she couldn't sell me this kit since I might want to take it back and claim that it was complete. This baffled me since I expected them to either find a substitute part or give me a discount on the incomplete kit. Anyway, they lost the sale of all the parts due to the rude cashier and I'd recommend the short drive across the bridge to Sutherlands in Laguna Vista. Better selection, lower prices, and the seem to actually want to serve their customers. read more

I was a frequent customer here and like going out of my way to support smaller, local stores. I bought the wrong size garden hose fitting and when I went back to exchange it for the correct size, they wouldn't let me without the receipt. I'd say it's bad business to lose a steady long term customer over a $4 part, but as they said 'that's our policy'. read more

This is one of the smallest ACE hardware stores I've been to... but they are helpful, and it's nice to be able to get most of the items for the condo without leaving the island. read more

I live on the island and I shop at this Ace Hardware store often. It is a small store but it's surprising how they have most of the things that you find you need for a project on the island. The people are very friendly and helpful and I don't feel like the prices are any higher than you would pay if you were not on the island. read more

I live on the Island. I have been in this store at least 100 times. No store employee, from the manager on down, has ever greeted me as if they know me, or recognize me, or in any way appreciate my continued patronage. As a test of sorts, more than once, I have walked up to the cashier, presented my purchase, paid for it and never hear a word from the cashier. Not a hello at the onset or a thanks, have a nice day at the end. ZERO customer service. read more
