My three children wanted to take skateboarding lessons. I want to comment about the skate camp first. My kids ended up taking a the week long camp with John Fudala. John and Denise were amazing with them (ages 9,9,6). The kids learned an so many tricks and techniques - I couldn't believe how much and how quickly they learned. Their confidence levels increased every day, and they had an absolute blast. The kids have repeatedly told me that this was one of the best camps they've ever been a part of, and they done many different types of camps during their young lives. John and Denise made it so much fun (costumes, music, pizza, and a mellow environment). As a parent, I really appreciated listening to the life lessons they were teaching the kids about perseverance, practice, and hard work while they taught them how to skate safely. I highly recommend it and hope to come back in August once they've had a chance to practice :) Now, I want to comment about the store experience. My daughter fell in love with skateboarding, so I decided to get her a better board than she had. John and the staff at the store helped us pick out the right board for her. Having been in customer-facing positions my entire life, I am not easily impressed, but I was blown away by Tanner who works at Coastal Edge. She was amazing. She went ridiculously far above and beyond. The backstory is that my daughter had seen the right size, type, and color (pink) the day before, but it had sold by the time we decided to buy it the next day. She saw my daughter - who that day was the only girl at the camp - and wanted her to fall in love with the sport. So, she took my mobile number so i could go to work. Within an hour, she had called every single Coastal Edge location multiple times looking for the right board. She found one, but it wasn't pink. My daughter could have lived with a masculine board, but Tanner saw her in all pink pads, shoes, shorts, etc. and decided that she was going to get my daughter a pink board no matter what. Tanner talked to a friend of hers, Jenah (also another stellar employee), and they offered to take the board home that night, sand it, and paint it pink (with my daughter's favorite things: unicorns, rainbows, flowers) out of sheer kindness. They asked for Isabella's input on the design (I sent them a drawing she had made). They took it and made something really special. The brought it to Isabella on day 2 of her camp. Jenah wasn't working at that location, but came any way to give the board directly to izzy and to watch her take her maiden voyage on it. When I asked about payment, they only asked for some chocolate chip cookies. There is so much to be negative about in the world, but these young women have me hopeful about the future. They made a massive impact on my daughter and a huge impression on me. I will encourage my daughter to pay it forward someday when she's a little older. I never write review either, but this was the very least I felt I should do for what was an amazing week. Any company is only as good as its people, and Coastal Edge has amazing employees. I was really disappointed and decided to call the HQ in VA Beach. I was put in touch with Jen the director of their surfboard department and my experience was completely turned around. Jen was professional, listened to my plight and went above and beyond to make things right. She put me in touch with Chris the manager in the obx shop and he carried the torch to the finish line. While speaking to Jen I discovered that they try to use American made products and materials as often as possible. That they really care about their employees and have a deep bench of experienced people that have been with them for many years. WRV is a large company and after the email shuffle I was sure that I wasn't important enough for my problems to be addressed. Jen completely proved me wrong and made me feel that not only was I important as a customer but everyone that works for them and the community around our beaches and in the lineup are number one when it comes to their business. WRV has made a believer out of me when it comes to great people and a solid business model. I will be a lifelong customer after this experience.

I'm a VB native that has been purchasing boards and clothing since WRV located on Norfolk Ave. I now live out of the area and only make it down a few times a year and when I do, I typically purchase WRV clothing for my three children since they're known as the "Beach Kids" in our mountain community & still manage to easily spend a few hundred dollars annually between VB & OBX locations annually. I attempted to exchange (& spend more) an unworn with tag intact logo tank top that my son did not like10 weeks after purchase. Associate told me I was past 30 day return window but he will allow it. I was a bit shocked because I knew I did not see any mention of this on the receipt, but I didn't have my readers when I was in the store. I also found a recent OBX receipt that does indeed list a 30 day return policy. Website has a bit of a contradiction for period of return/exchange. Just wanna let management know so they can decide what their policy truly is and updated on the receipt, website, and train their employees.

When we got into the store they pointed us to Ricky (owner and manager) since he does all ski boot fittings. He asked what we were looking for and I said we are looking to get fitted for some boots and see if we like any, immediately he said "sounds like you are just trying to buy online", I said "no honestly we are looking to get boots, neither of us have ever owned a pair or have ever been properly fitted for ski boots". He then said "all ski boot fittings are $100 since it takes time and I don't want to waste my time if you don't buy boots here". I said "Can we just try some on?" and he said "still $100, however if you buy the boots he will take off $100 for the boots". So I say "ok i will just do it then" so I could see the actual process (which is not really one at all haha). I go to pay and Ricky tells the cashier it's $100. She rings me up and has trouble since the boot fitting charge is only $50 in the system (so he double charged me- nice!) so a manager had to manually put in $100. I got fitted for the boots which was just trying on 3 separate pairs until one felt right. I found a good pair that fit and thought well I should get them so I don't just waste $100. I bought the boots but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I felt like I got scammed. After talking to a lot of my buddies out west they said they have NEVER heard of any businesses ever charging a boot fitting fee and that this was just a scam to get money. His little ploy to make $100 caused me not to buy boots for my wife, bindings, and poles for both of us and the binding mounting fee ($200 - which is super high, REI does it for $70). So he missed out on atleast an extra $1000 due to his horrible business strategy. I decided to just take my business to Amazon and actually pay more for bindings online. I will always choose to spend more money if it's going to a small business but not if that business is super shady and impolite. Ski World knows they have a monopoly on the market here in VB and they are abusing it. Ricky, you get more bees with honey than with vinegar. Respect your customers, show them proper service and they will love to give you their money. Super disappointed with the service. DO BETTER! They sell name brands like Vox and Roxy and have fashionable beach wear as well as surf wear and bathing suits. Shoes and surfboard gear. Sunglasses. Etc. Assistance was immediate when walking in and consistent throughout in the changing room that was clean. Lots of sales as per usual is a draw. Checkout was smooth with a multi layered process of a physical gift card, an online gift card and a money back promo on purchases. So a $60+ bill turned into $2 which as great! Pretty cool to not have a hiccup with a more complex checkout. American Eagle is one of my teen daughter's favorites stores. Great service, fashionable products and money back offers on purchases.
