I got several quotes, and being the daughter of a contractor, I know of what I speak pricing and quality wise. Scott's price was reasonable, he brought excellent work ethic, judgement and skill to our job. He paints, does finishing work, electrical and plumbing. Most of all... he does IMMACULATE crown. It isn't easy getting crown up on the ceiling of a 32 year old not so straight house, and my rooms look fab. I recommend Scott's work, and do not do so lightly. There are many idiots out there who think that because they bought a toolbox at "Toys r Us" they are a contractor. Watch for the bad guys, and cherish the good ones. Being a renovation junky, you may find this handy dude hard to book, because he is at my house, but try your luck. By the way... my dear old Dad always divided his customers into two types of people... the ones who made sure he was fed and watered and those who didn't offer. He began doing smaller jobs for me - stripping and sealing stairs, painting rooms and troubleshooting a temperamental oven - and ended up putting my upstairs together after mold remediators demolished much of it. TJ and his crew put up walls, rebuilt window frames, added trim, hung lights, tiled my shower (beautifully!), built a linen closet, added an attic platform and a pull-down staircase and even built an oak vanity to fit my small bathroom. For years I'd deferred much of this work because I knew no one truly capable of or interested in dealing with such a wide variety of issues/tasks. Once I found TJ and realized how versatile, capable and meticulous he was, I had him do just about everything. My house is now shipshape. TJ takes much pride in doing a thorough and beautiful job. Words really cannot…read moredescribe how grateful we are to Goldcon - but since this is a Google review, I will try my best to paint a picture of how we worked together. Prior to selecting Goldcon, we had interviewed about 15 contractors. All of them were great sales people, they all sounded like they knew what they were doing, so narrowing it down was difficult. We eventually got it down to 3 companies (Goldcon and 2 others) and signed up to a design document with 1 of them that was not Goldcon. Typically in construction the contractors will charge a "Cost Plus" model or a "Fixed Price". For fixed price, you need to have a perfectly crafted scoping document so you know exactly what you are paying for. For "Cost Plus" you are paying a percentage on top of the cost of the project. Virtually all the contractors wanted to use a Cost Plus Model given all the uncertainties with supplies and labour. I just didn't like this idea because it didn't feel like the contractors would make an effort to negotiate the best price for us. Goldcon was one of the only contractors that was willing to do a fixed price for the build - but they were concerned that we would need to submit a variety of change orders if the supplies that we had chosen were out of stock. So we decided to settle on a fixed management fee and pay Goldcon in installments that were tied to milestones reached. As soon as we signed on the dotted lines, they got to work. And they worked fast. Trades were organized extremely efficiently, one after another. Multiple quotes were presented to us for each trade and they often were able to get their existing partners to match prices of lower price suppliers. Design ideas were brought to the table and discussed at length, but very quickly and efficiently. Communication was effortless, we setup a WhatsApp group and kept a history of all the things we discussed. When we had a difference of opinion, they always reverted back to "It's your house, you have whatever you like, but we just think XYZ would make the most sense". This was reassuring to us and most of the times we ended up going with their suggestions and it paid off. At no point in the process did we feel like we were being bullied into doing something or were we uncomfortable with the process. So overall, there are 100's of reasons to choose Goldcon and ZERO reasons to work with someone else. If you are looking for a builder for a new house or to do a larger renovation, Goldcon is the only company that I would recommend. The carpet in the apartment was really old and the bathroom needed a new vanity. Kaveh helped me pick out the laminate flooring that would look good and that I didn't have to spend and arm and leg to get. They quickly took out the disgusting old carpet and installed the new flooring which looks great. Second, they took out the old rusted vanity and added a new vanity which really makes my fiancé happy. I love coming to a home which I can be comfortable in and a home that looks good.
