Dear Hiring Manager at Desires Art Store, I've walked past your window a dozen times--always…read morepausing at that charcoal sketch of the woman mid-laugh, the one where her eyes look like they know exactly what I'm hiding. It's the kind of piece that doesn't sell itself; it just... stays. And honestly? That's why I'm writing. I've spent the last three years behind the counter at a tiny gallery in Portland--nothing fancy, just good light and people who'd rather talk about brushstrokes than buy anything. I learned how to spot the quiet ones who come in for just a look, then leave with a $400 watercolor because I asked if they'd ever painted their own shadow. I'm not pushy. I'm patient. And I remember names--like how Mrs. Alvarez always wants the softest pastels, or how the kid in the hoodie keeps circling the same neon print until he finally asks if we do layaway. Desires feels different. Not louder--just deeper. I've seen your Instagram; the way you frame a single canvas like it's breathing. You don't just sell art--you curate moments. I want to be part of that. I'm good with inventory (I once reorganized our entire back room by mood--warm tones on the left, cold on the right--sales jumped fifteen percent). I can wrap a piece like it's a gift to someone's future self. And yeah, I'll admit--I've already daydreamed about restocking your shelves at six in the morning, radio low, coffee black, watching the city wake up through the glass. If you're looking for someone who'll treat every customer like they're about to fall in love--with a painting, with themselves, with whatever--they'll find here--I'm your guy. Let me know if you ever need an extra pair of hands. Or eyes. Or just someone who'll stay late to hang that last piece right. Warmly, Leo P.S.

My friend and I dropped off our shoes for store owner Vahid on a Wednesday. He had a customer at…read morethe time but was quick to assist us as soon as he was done. Our shoes include a range of men/women shoes: Gucci loafers, Ferragamo loafers, Hermès sandals, Louboutin loafers, YSL Chelsea boots, Alexander Wang ankle boots and some other pairs of shoes. Most shoes are damaged at the bottom where the wood panel, leather bottoms or heels are wore out. One pair is more severe as the leather is detached from the sole. Vahid has done a fantastic job to give new life to the pair by patching some leather and reattaching the leather to the soles without much trace at all. Vahid is professional as he not only quickly identified the problems with each pair, he is also helpful in advising us how the shoes can be repaired and offering options for us to choose. Some shoes require new fully protected bottoms whereas some can last with just protected heels. Vahid chooses the best color to match the original shoes' bottom so that the layer is unnoticeable from the side. Overall we are very happy with Vahid's professional work!

They said the glue of the sole to the boot was really old and has expired and needs to be re-glued. I told them that they were given to me by my late mom and I am from out of town and I had to get them fixed. Normally it would take them a few days, but they were so kind that they expedited the repair and I was able to pick them up within a few hours. I am so impressed with Professional Shoe Repair. They are quick, and did an impeccable repair job. I highly recommend!

They told me to come in but I DO NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL COMING INTO YOUR HEADQUARTERS AFTER THE PHONE CALL. I EVEN HAD TO BLOCK THEIR NUMBER BECAUSE OF THE HARASSMENT. So go on with your threats AND RELEASE THE UNTAMPERED version of the phone calls and footage of when I came in. They said that I was lying about the repairs that I wanted to get done. I have a physical copy of the receipt where Tony signs off on getting a repair done. Not a clean. If you can't fix my handbag, then don't say you'll fix it AND CHARGE ME FOR IT KNOWING YOU GUYS CANT DO ANYTHING THEN SAY THAT I'M LYING. Not only that, Tony and Kathy kept on going on about how horrible my handbag looked, to begin with. I brought in my handbag to get a tear fixed. And they didn't fix it. They said that "of course, it wasn't going to be fixed for $113". They were spewing lies saying that I was very stingy on price when I came in. They have footage of that conversation but refuse to release an untampered version of it. On top of Tony yelling at me, Kathy clearly didn't read my e-mail and just stated that I was lying. I asked her what service I paid for if they didn't want to fix my tear and she couldn't even answer it in the call. She was saying that they did nothing to my bag... even though I paid over a $100 for a service? I just got scammed. After that TERRIFYING PHONE CALL FROM THE STAFF, they told me to come in. I wasn't going to come in because I'm SO SCARED after that phone call. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE COMING IN AGAIN. I just opted for a full refund of $113 but they are only giving me back $90 because despite the physical evidence (receipt and bank statement) they claim that I only paid $90

This place offers a great variety of supplies and the prices are very reasonable. Hides, patterns, tools, paint, etc. They have an online store too, so check em out. Whether you are just getting into leatherworking, or already quite experienced, they seem to have something for everyone. I was eyeing some beginner kits, but decided to try another day. The staff are very knowledgeable and approachable. Many of them were chatting with customers who had questions. There was a workshop going on in the back, making keychains, and looked like a very fun activity. There are also free classes now and then. Would love to try some day.

The fellow that helped us was prompt, polite, knowledgeable and all around lovely. Customer service is a very important part of any shopping experience for me. He took my products up to the counter while I continued to shop, so my hands were free, helped me locate things when I was having trouble, made suggestions for my project and even offered to special order items for me which they didn't have enough in their store. The selection was awesome and I left with everything I needed. It was certainly a very positive experience at Tandy Leather's store location; I will definitely be back. Don't hesitate to go there for any and all of your leather needs!

I really dig American products, especially when one comes to cycling but lately I have been turned…read moreon to a couple of Canadian companies that I had not known that much about that have really impressed me, and this is one of them. I ride fixed bikes and as with many things, the particularities and details are often what takes a product from okay to amazing. I was riding my Fuji with Hold Fast straps which I was initially happy with. As time went on however, I found they became worn too easily and flopped around when I was trying to slip my feet into them. Some riders enjoy the metal or hard plastic toe clips, but I'm partial to nylon, so I was faced with only a few options. Walking home one day (the YNOT shop is a block from my building) I decided I'd go in and take a look. I hadn't realized I'd seen these straps around before and that this was their flagship store, but I had seen the pedal straps on display through the window before so I decided to take a look. I was blown away. First off, I like how simple they've made purchasing there. People sometimes forget about the beauty of simplified shopping. They have a stock of three or four Wellago plastic pedals. Not over the top, but a good clean simple pedal and it's $20! Totally fair price. Then they have about 15 colors of the standard strap, some leather ones (I do believe available in 5 different colors) and finally reflective designs as well (4-5 colors). They have bags, really sweet looking messenger and top open courier bags. Customizable and plenty pre-made designs in store. They have a few bikes, chain lube, a few tools and some cycle fashion and here's the best thing about it and a bit of an answer to my American loving consumerism: IT'S ALL MADE RIGHT HERE IN TORONTO! I've heard through them that they're fairly popular in Korea and Japan, and I've seen it on websites as well, but I think it's time that Torontonians and Canada as a cycling nation took notice too. Their products are of amazing quality. I will say the material for the bags feels a bit thin but it comes with a lifetime warranty and lighter is better and thicker material isn't always better so I think it'll hold up. I bought two pair of the standard pedal straps and have been very happy with them. Unlike the Hold Fasts, the YNOT's actually keep their shape, and are sturdier as well. They are easier to adjust and come in such a wide variety of colors that you can match them to any bike color out there. The price is very reasonable $49.99 for the standards up to $64.99 I believe for the leather straps, and they also all come with a lifetime warranty. The staff was very friendly and they even have a dog who hangs out in the shop (a note for you pet owners in case you're out strolling with your dog, it's a pet friendly atmosphere) and last but most definitely not least, it's so rare to find a REAL local shop that actually makes its stuff in Toronto and/or Canada. Totally worth going to see. YNOT indeed? GO!
