My family and I enjoyed staying here and plan to again but I imagine that people will either love…read moreit or hate it with no where in between. I have stayed in a lot of mountain cabins. The roads to some of them were so poor quality, narrow, and incredibly steep that I decided if I made it to the top I wouldn't drive back down until I left. It is on obviously rural mountain roads but I would feel completely comfortable on them even in the winter. Even though the website does say that bedrooms two and three are the second and third floor lofts it's easily overlooked which had happened to at least one reviewer. There are a couple of reasons that might make you either love it or hate it. If you have AT&T cell phone service, and possibly others, reception ends about half a mile before the cabin. However you can get reception outside of your car or the cabin. There are three porches so you don't have to go far for a signal but if you absolutely can't disconnect from the world then you might not like it. If you have a different carrier you might not have a problem. As for me and my family, we were looking for a place to get away and relax and the only people we would want to be able to reach us were here, so it wasn't a problem. Another thing that you might either love or hate is the Wi-Fi which is listed as an amenity. We'd read the reviews on the website saying it didn't work. I'm a former computer engineer so I thought I might be able to fix it or at least diagnose the problem. I can't prove my diagnosis because I can't gain physical access to the equipment but I believe there are two problems with it. The first is that I believe the Wi-Fi router is located in the cabin next door and not in this one and it has a very weak signal that does cut out at times. The second is that I believe it is only a slow DSL connection. The best speed I was ever able to get was 1 Mbps. That's definitely not enough to watch any streaming video like YouTube or Netflix which I believe some reviewers complained about. I had brought my laptop but never had a need or want to use it. I was able to use my iPad and iPhone to browse websites and use most of my apps without too much trouble. My family had come prepared to not have Internet access. We brought toys, games, fishing equipment, life jackets to use with the canoe they provide (they also provide life jackets but I brought my own to make sure I had the right size for the kids), DVDs and a player, books to read, books to color in, ingredients to make s'mores over a campfire, etc. But if you can't live without reliable high speed internet then this place won't work for you. The only other thing I can think of that you might either love or hate is there is no dishwasher. It did kind of surprise me that there wasn't one in a nice place like this but we just brought paper plates and plastic cups and cutlery. (My family is normally very environmental. I even drive an electric car, but nobody wants to spend their vacation washing dishes which wastes water. Sometimes you have to choose one negative environmental impact or another. This time paper and plastic lost to water.) One thing that is usually the same at every cabin or condo I rent is they advertise a kitchen "perfect for dining" but rarely have enough cooking utensils or they have practically been destroyed by previous guests. I've seen much worse but I was glad that I had brought my own spatula, slotted spoon, and can opener. When looking for a vacation destination my family selected this place because we wanted a somewhat remote cabin that was big enough for our entire family of eight, had fun things we could do there, and fun things to do nearby. DeSoto Falls, part of DeSoto State Park on Lookout Mountain is only about two miles away. Little River Canyon National Preserve (Park) with three other waterfalls and a 23 mile scenic trail is only about 15 miles away. If you have the time and don't mind driving a little further, Russell Cave National Monument (Park) is only about 30 miles away. We had so much fun at the cabin that we only went to DeSoto Falls and Little River Falls for a short time one afternoon.

We found this B&B nearby and thought it would be cool to stay here for a night. It is very near the border with Georgia and Tennesse so it's close to the Chattanooga area as well. The house itself is located in Valley Head.The house was easy to spot from a distance as it really stands out in this area. Next to the railroad tracks, the property is beautiful with gorgeous old trees surrounding it.There actually used to be a council tree on this property that the Indians used for ceremonies, e.t.c. before they were forced out on the Trail of Tears. There's a lot of history in this place. We were met by Jim Bunch, one of the owners, who gave us a tour and told us the history of the place before showing us our room. The original owner was related to Winston Churchill and Dolly Madison. I won't tell you all the history so if you want to know more, you'll have to visit it yourself! I appreciated that there was a folder in our room that contained reading materials about the house and the area so I could read more about it! Our room was lovely and the bed was really comfy. There was a tv in our room as well. We had rented the Patrick Henry Suite so we actually had another room next door that had an old fashioned bed with curtains all around it. Each rental has its own full bathroom so no worry about sharing. The house actually has a game room with a piano, pool table, and ping pong table. We didn't use it on this visit but would be fun if you have kids. You can actually rent the whole house if you wish for family events etc. People can get married here as well. There are some beautiful pictures from weddings on the property. Our stay included breakfast in the morning. Jim made us a wonderful breakfast that included French toast, eggs, breakfast potatoes, grits, bacon, fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee and tea. I was stuffed. Everything was delicious. It was hard to leave this wonderful old house. I would definitely stay here again.

You are sunken down in a small valley with hills on each side. This home is historically beautiful. The wrap around porches are nice to sit in and relax taking in the sounds of the crickets and frogs. Our bed was comfortable and pillows nice. The bathroom was decorated immaculately!! Beautiful! The hostess even gave us a tour of the home and the others rooms that were vacant. She brought ice to our room and showed us the kitchen so we can self serve in the night if we wish for water or coffee or teas. This experience was one of our best at a B and B. It was Mrs. Fays breakfast the next morning that knocked out socks off!! As we gathered in the beautifully appointed dining room; we were served coffee and juice. Out came the fruit cup with watermelon (in season and sweet) then the gravy with homemade from Scratch biscuits; scrambled fluffy eggs, bacon, sausage patties, and then this amazing cheesy hash brown casserole that I will be craving the rest of my life!!! The homegrown, sliced garden tomatoes. Wow!!! This was by far the best breakfast on our entire trip! Then to top it off; I forgot my iPad and we called after being an hour away and Leslie ( our host) said it's going in fedex and we should have it when we arrive home Monday. Just a wonderful overall experience here and Winston place. You come in as a guest and leave friends :)

Walked into the room and I always am checking the sheets and mattress every place I go. I pull the comforter off the bed and mouse feces was on the bed and pillows. Also there was burn holes in the comforter. We immediately went back to the office to leave and get a refund. The man then argued with my husband for a good 10 minutes that he had to charge us 5.00 dollars for a service charge!! We were getting no where with this man who barely spoke English so we got what we could for the refund and left. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone weather it was a planned stay or quick stop like we were trying to make to sleep. Disgusting and unprofessional place!!

When we arrived we were warmly greeted by Nancy, the innkeeper for the weekend and also by the amazing view through a wall of windows on the main floor. Nancy brought us to our room named "the view" , which was a cozy wood paneled space that, from our semi private deck, lived up to its name. After an amazing dinner at the Wildflower we retired to our room and comfortable bed for a great night sleep. In the morning we went up for a fantastic breakfast and some wonderful conversation with the others who are staying here. I'm really sad to leave but this has been a great, memorable way to spend my wife and my 10th wedding anniversary. BTW, the other folks who we had breakfast with are looking at property here in Mentone if that is any indication of the beauty of this place.

The excellent and tasteful decorations work well together, they reminded me of like an old English Gentleman's hunting manor. The best part is the breakfast. Candied bacon, chocolate-filled French Toast, creamy fluffy scrambled eggs to die for, and interesting conversation with the owners who ate with us and the other guests. Plus home-made cookies to take home!
