We found this B&B nearby and thought it would be cool to stay here for a night. It is very near the border with Georgia and Tennesse so it's close to the Chattanooga area as well. The house itself is located in Valley Head. The house was easy to spot from a distance as it really stands out in this area. Next to the railroad tracks, the property is beautiful with gorgeous old trees surrounding it.There actually used to be a council tree on this property that the Indians used for ceremonies, e.t.c. before they were forced out on the Trail of Tears. There's a lot of history in this place. We were met by Jim Bunch, one of the owners, who gave us a tour and told us the history of the place before showing us our room. The original owner was related to Winston Churchill and Dolly Madison. I won't tell you all the history so if you want to know more, you'll have to visit it yourself! I appreciated that there was a folder in our room that contained reading materials about the house and the area so I could read more about it! Our room was lovely and the bed was really comfy. There was a tv in our room as well. We had rented the Patrick Henry Suite so we actually had another room next door that had an old fashioned bed with curtains all around it. Each rental has its own full bathroom so no worry about sharing. The house actually has a game room with a piano, pool table, and ping pong table. We didn't use it on this visit but would be fun if you have kids. You can actually rent the whole house if you wish for family events etc. People can get married here as well. There are some beautiful pictures from weddings on the property. Our stay included breakfast in the morning. Jim made us a wonderful breakfast that included French toast, eggs, breakfast potatoes, grits, bacon, fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee and tea. I was stuffed. Everything was delicious. It was hard to leave this wonderful old house. I would definitely stay here again.

You are sunken down in a small valley with hills on each side. This home is historically beautiful. The wrap around porches are nice to sit in and relax taking in the sounds of the crickets and frogs. Our bed was comfortable and pillows nice. The bathroom was decorated immaculately!! Beautiful! The hostess even gave us a tour of the home and the others rooms that were vacant. She brought ice to our room and showed us the kitchen so we can self serve in the night if we wish for water or coffee or teas. This experience was one of our best at a B and B. It was Mrs. Fays breakfast the next morning that knocked out socks off!! As we gathered in the beautifully appointed dining room; we were served coffee and juice. Out came the fruit cup with watermelon (in season and sweet) then the gravy with homemade from Scratch biscuits; scrambled fluffy eggs, bacon, sausage patties, and then this amazing cheesy hash brown casserole that I will be craving the rest of my life!!! The homegrown, sliced garden tomatoes. Wow!!! This was by far the best breakfast on our entire trip! Then to top it off; I forgot my iPad and we called after being an hour away and Leslie ( our host) said it's going in fedex and we should have it when we arrive home Monday. Just a wonderful overall experience here and Winston place. You come in as a guest and leave friends :)

    Decatur Alpaca Cottage

Decatur Alpaca Farm is more of a lifestyle than a physical space. Nestled in an unassuming…read moreresidential neighborhood, this magnificent microfarm and its beautifully manicured gardens, impeccably clean grounds, and hilariously entertaining animals offers such a whimsical and interesting escape from the hustle and bustle of the city -- it is an escape you surely will not want to miss. Marykay, who is by far one of the most interesting, friendly, and intelligent people we've ever met, greeted us with a fresh bowl of eggs hatched that same day from her flock of 25 chickens. The alpaca herd was visible from the nearby gate -- all were happily chomping away at a pile of orchard grass (which Marykay later informed us is the equivalent of alpaca pizza). They are inquisitive, yet a little shy, but if you respect them they will return the favor. Both alpacas, chickens, and cottage guests have plenty of space so as not to intrude upon one another. We opted for the Alpaca Experience, which is an absolute must-do for all guests. It is incredibly informational and as interactive as you'd like for it to be -- assuming you are putting the animals' needs ahead of your own. Marykay is incredibly knowledgeable and has literally built the farm from a small chicken coop to a very impressive, tidy, organized alpaca haven. It is very evident that all animals are so loved, respected, and maybe just a bit spoiled from time to time. All are rescued from varying degrees of past hardship but their new life on Marykay's farm is a blissful existence, as evidenced by their calm, enthusiastic, and curious demeanor. The cottage itself is adorable -- easily comparable to the spaces and vibes found in Garden and Gun or Southern Living. The refrigerator is stocked with all the conveniences of home, snacks and beverages are available for those late-night cravings, and coffee at the ready for early risers. Everything was clean, warm, cozy, and loved -- just like the farm animals. Dare we mention the alpaca fiber blankets available throughout the space? The entire experience is what you make of it. Should you want to hole up in the house (not recommended when alpaca/chicken watching is so entertaining and the spirit of the various flower/vegetable/dyes gardens being so alive, but who are we to tell you how to spend your time), Marykay will absolutely respect your boundaries. But, if you're looking to truly experience something unique, as her a few questions. You will not be disappointed. We travel often and book via Airbnb regularly, however no place has been quite as comfortable, unique, interactive, and interesting as Decatur Alpaca Farm. Marykay has created something so unique and heartwarming -- every open-minded adventurer should include this place as a stop on the bucket list. As for the casual traveler, a couple nights in her garden will erase all stress, even if the alpacas are not your thing. We did not want to leave.

She welcomes everyone here, and I don't mention that lightly in 2021. I used the property for a visual project some years ago, and kept in touch because it was that moving of an experience. And don't get me started on the majesty of the alpacas - my goodness!!! Feeding them carrots might be one of the highlights of the past decade. What a hidden gem right near the city of Atlanta. Do your spirit a favor and definitely visit!

We are animal lovers and the greeting committee of puppy's and peacocks is like none other! The innkeepers (Kevin and Carol) are so gracious, helpful and just all around sweethearts. Staying at a B&B is a different kind of experience and one if the biggest ingredients are the hosts and that's one of the reasons we love this place. The location is gorgeous. Nestled in a valley in the North Ga Mts.. This is out in the country and it's a working farm. No mints on your pillows or high tea here...just simple , cozy , and super sized accommodations. Our room is huge, sporting a King size bed and has a working fireplace! Next up "The animals".... Dogs, cats, goats , chickens, llamas, a horse , a few donkeys ,1 camel named Mel and a peacock that's the star if the menagerie. As I mentioned we love animals and this place has got them. We can walk straight up to the barn and pet and feed them carrots and apples. All good. I have no shame in saying that I'm an uptight, city slicking, asphalt loving diva but I do enjoy coming here for a few days , unplugging and getting away from all the traffic ,concrete and my comfort zone. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to get back again soon.
