The Waterford Greenway must be one of the most successful tourism initiatives in Ireland. A dedicated bicycle and walkway running about 50km from the city of Waterford to the seaside town of Dungarvan. Roughly midway in the journey is Kilmacthomas and adjacent to, and directly accessible from, the Greenway is the Coach House Coffee house. Located on the campus of the old Flahavans porridge factory it's sited in, as the name suggests, an old coach house. It's a large space with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to accommodate the hordes of hungry and thirsty cyclists. We've been there a few times for coffee or breakfast and, on our recent post-lockdown foray, we rocked up by car to the large and surprisingly busy car park.
There have been some adjustments to the operation, contact tracing details, sanitisers etc but nothing intrusive or off putting.
The food, you say? We shared a pretty amazing breakfast blaa- basically the full Irish in a soft bun. (The blaa is a Waterford speciality bread roll). Two very excellent flat whites were consumed at an outdoor table in seasonal sunshine while we watched the hordes of MAMILs come and go.
An excellent stopover on your Greenway journey which you cannot and should not miss. read more
