Clowning Around provides comedic or serious clown performances at a variety of events. TRIXY has been a clown for 20+ years. She has done balloon twisting, face painting, magic and singing telegrams. But now just loves doing Singing Telegrams for all ages. This includes writing and singing songs with original words to familiar tunes about the person she sings for. Or she can do a medley of three birthday songs. The singing telegram also comes with a bouquet of lovely hand-made balloon flowers. JO JO has clowned for 15+ years. He does birthday parties, festivals, business openings, and business parties. He makes many different balloon creations, from balloon animals to swords to super heroes & princesses to super duper hats! At parties he specializes in balloon twisting, and can add a funny action song, magic, children parades with instruments and hats, or games.

History

Established in 2001.

After a 10-year illness, I found that I would never be able to work full-time again. I went back to volunteer clowning in our church during summer bible school. It was at one of those week-ending picnics that another clown approached me about clowning as a job. It took me a year, but I decided that might be the perfect job for me. So I joined their clown alley and began to learn all about the different crafts. I went to "clown college" and continued with clown education every year. My own business, Clowning Around, took about 5 years before I was making a profit, but by then I had improved in everything. The best part has been for Jo Jo to join me in clowning. And I really love doing Singing Telegrams! I love writing the songs and singing them in some crazy costume. Jo Jo now makes the balloon bouquet and is my driver. It's now 2023--22 years later. My health has worsened, but clowning keeps me going! It's so much fun and so rewarding to make people laugh.

Meet the Business Owner: Vicky G.

Owner and entertainer is Vicky Garrett. In high school I sang a lot, as a soloist and in other music groups. I also was in school plays and in speech contests. After high school I attended a business school in Denver, Co. I took courses by mail in Writing Children's Stories and took some college courses at Drake Univ. and DMACC. In the midst of all this I was married and raised three boys. My professional jobs mostly included being a secretary and mostly in the Des Moines School District for elementary, middle school and high school students. I taught After School Arts and Crafts at a number of elementary schools, was a Sunday School teacher for years and worked with the church youth group for years. I worked two years at a nursing home as a nurse aide and med aide. All of the above helped make me a better clown for all ages. I have always considered this a ministry--making children, adults and the elderly laugh and forget their problems even for just a little while!
