We really wanted to add the ambiance of live music for an afternoon tea fundraiser event I was planning with the nonprofit women's organization the Junior League of Pasadena. We planned our wedding from across the country so we hadn't heard them play in person, but they were lovely. We hired Clover String Quartet to play at our wedding ceremony and through dinner. They provided a great blend of classical string quartet feeling with a really hip mix of contemporary music as well. Cecille helped guide my selection of music by asking which movements we preferred of the classical pieces we selected. We rented the microphones for the instruments through Clover Strings per Cecille's suggestion which was incredibly helpful during dinner when our small party of 45 became a bit boisterous. Clover String Quartet went above-and-beyond and learned and adapted a special piece for our bridal entrance song, Mozart Serenade for Winds K.361, 3rd movement. It was a magical moment for me to say the least. They also coordinated with a family member to play an Elvis piece together in a special performance. I wanted to add a nice touch to my wedding by having a quartet play for the ceremony and cocktail hour. Live music always takes it up a step up, you know! I worked with Clover String Quartet early in the planning process and chose some classical and modern songs (coldplay, U2, FIve for Fighting) for the ceremony. For the cocktail hour, I asked that they play some fun songs- to which they played the score from The Godfather and the groom's favorite - Zelda! Major disappointment. As I planned my own wedding, I came across clover string here on yelp. Based on reviews and their talent in music I booked them. Before booking I went over details with the owner, I'm guessing. Closer to my wedding day Clover Strings was not being Proffesional at all. They tell my event cordinator they are worried they have no idea what they will be doing at my wedding. Details were explained prior. Me thinking they are professional and have done this plenty of times,I was wrong! They even complained that my wedding was in Spanish and they wouldn't be able to understand what's going on. I recently hired the Clover String Quartet for a Senior Citizen Volunteer Event. They did not disappoint, the sound was perfect and the seniors really enjoyed the music. They did a great job with selecting music too -- which made less work for us! Cecille, the manager and one of the musicians, was so easy to work with. They played my wedding on June 28. First, the positives. Cecille, prior to the wedding was prompt and responded to all of my questions and general inquiries. Second, the band was presentable and dressed appropriately on the day of. Finally, the songs that they did played were done very well and sounded great. And now the negative... I specifically hired the group for one reason: I always wanted to have my bride walk down the aisle playing one specific song. Cecille said no problem. I gave her that song and a Handful of others to play, I also gave specific instructions on when they were to be played. I asked if they needed anything else from me, they asked I pay in cash- which I did. No other questions. On the day of, I greeted the musicians and asked multiple times if they needed anything whatsoever, they said they did not. Then, come to find out, 15 minutes before the actual ceremony one of the musicians arrives without sheet music and without any knowledge of what she was playing. Come to find out- my friends saved the day and printed everything out. I only found out yesterday because my friends wanted to make sure I wasn't stressed over this unprofessionalism right before I said my vows. Second, My main problem with this group is that when I was standing at the altar waiting for my bride to come down, waiting to see her with the music I always envisioned being played, instead they screw up again and start playing that particular song that I specifically requested for the bridal entrance and went ahead and played it for the bridal party entrance. Moment ruined. Their sole purpose for why I hired them was not executed. How hard can it really be? I was given the excuse that they couldn't see or hear the proper cue- they should have said their vision was blocked. Why did they improvise? Why were they not able to wait and know that as soon as the guests stood that it was obvious it was the bride who was entering? For crying out loud, I was married in a friends backyard, it wasn't very big. They should have paid attention to detail, they should have asked questions they should have expressed they needed help to know exactly when to be cued. I'm so disappointed, and it has been a full month since the wedding. I had high hopes, I gave clear instruction and I asked repeatedly if they needed anything to do the job that I hired them to do. I feel like I was blown off and that they were none too sympathetic with how they messed up this very special part of the wedding. People who are looking to hire this group needs to be aware that this lack of preparedness. It's simply unacceptable. read more

Very unethical business practices. I hired Clover to play at my wedding reception. Four weeks later my fiancee and I decided to cancel the wedding and end our engagement. I wrote to inform Clover right away. They had two months to find alternative work. But one of their members, Cecille, insisted that I pay the cancellation fee of $300 as the contract stipulated. I agreed and sent a check. However, I added a note with the check expressing dismay that they would enforce this cancellation penalty, and I implied it was unethical to do this. Cecille wrote me an angry email saying I signed a contract with a cancellation fee, so I had no right to complain. I wrote back to explain that sometimes things can be legal and still unethical. Reasonable people can disagree about who was right here. But Cecille became obsessed with writing me email after email -- about a dozen! -- personally attacking me for being a liar and being stupid. She went online and looked up personal information about my past education and jobs, and proceeded to write vicious, insulting emails to me mocking me and belittling me (I have a Ph.D. and Cecille was berating me for being too stupid think clearly, and she mocked the school that gave me my degree, and she implied I did not belong in my career as a teacher because I was a liar and a fool. I have never had someone treat me like this in a professional context. Yes, I questioned her professional ethics, but that is all. She in turn waged a relentless email war on me, always wanting the last word and calling me a "hypocrite" and "stupid" and all kinds of insults. All this because I suggested they not keep my cancellation fee. Be very careful if you deal with this group. Cecille, their business rep, is very cut throat and nasty. If you upset her she will seek vengeance against you. Be warned. read more

I provided all the information that they requested on their website. When I did not receive a response after 10 days, I even called them on the chance that they did not receive my email.
