However when we met with Mike at Modern Painting we felt comfortable from the start. Mike made the process so easy and everything he said he would do, he went above and beyond. His company did an outstanding job on our basement. They transformed 1500 sq. feet of empty unfinished space into a beautiful living area, where we now spend the majority of our time. However more importantly, his customer service was superb. There are a lot of companies in the industry that over promise and under deliver....In my opinion, Modern Painting stands above all others in terms of craftsmanship, integrity, expertise, and service. I highly recommend utilizing Modern Painting for any home improvement endeavor. As we continue to do home improvement projects around our house, we no longer have to look for a contractor....Modern Painting is the company we will use from now on.

The other painter was extremely flaky and we only had two weeks before moving in to get the house painted. We called Mike the night after closing frantic that out other painter "could no longer do it in the two weeks". Mike came THE NEXT DAY. The quote was higher than others by quite a bit, but it was worth it. They painted the hallways, trim, ceilings, closets, mudroom, bedrooms in a 1700 square feet house in one week and it looked absolutely amazing. I am incredibly impressed with the work of modern and would highly recommend them. I never write yelp reviews but he did such a great job!

The painting crew was professional and efficient and their painting skills excellent. Steve and Jeff came by multiple times to check on things and make sure we were satisfied. Scheduling was painless, the project started on time and the crew was there every day with no disappearing act where they start and leave for a few days. Our home wasn't just painted it was transformed. It was a beautiful house but now it's the most beautiful house with "wow" factor.

Mike Shea came to us highly recommended by Alessandro Tile, LLC. Unfortunately, he did not live up…read moreto the hype. First off, he is full-time Waterbury, CT fireman and part-time painter. He quoted the job over the phone on 12 May 2022 I should have been wary when he asked for half the money at the beginning of work and the balance upon completion. That's usually a sign of a workman who is not confident in his work. He and Kevin, his former partner, arrived on the job-site on 11 Jul 2022. That day they primed the cabinets; If you like sarcastic workman whom you let into your home, Mr. Shea is the painter for you. When I asked him how he could quote the job over the phone and not make any effort to come and see the job, neither meeting us first, nor providing a sample, he stated, "cause I'm that good." That day they were in such a hurry that they didn't TSP the cabinets and left a shelf and a portion of one cabinet not touched by primer. They left with the drawer fronts and cabinet doors. I sent him photos of the incomplete work and he said Kevin would return the next day and prime what was missed and apply the first coat of the finish. Kevin did spend some time the next day and was good enough to move the refrigerator out so that he could paint the alcove, after I asked about it, but it was not primed first. Next day was the third day on the job and by the end of it there were many major blemishes: orange peeling, tear-drop drips as well as drips of paint on the stove, This was another day that they bum-rushed the job. When I sent him a photo, he was kind enough to tell me how I could clean it off the stove. Needless to say, I left it for him. When Mr. Shea came to re-install the doors and drawer fronts, I showed him my concerns, and to his credit, he did address them. I payed him and he left. I am still adjusting door fronts and completing the touch-ups associated with the rubbing of the doors and drawers because they were not properly installed (European hinges). I payed the man, but I would not recommend anyone let him do their cabinets. He's probably a good exterior painter; but, I thought the old saying was that "painters make their money inside." I'd grade this job a solid C.
