You only need to arrive 5 minutes before your appointment. You will be waiting outside on the patio. Drew asked me about areas I wanted her to focus on and then gave me a nice massage. The treatment room had a lot of light and that is only downside for me. I like it dark in the room if possible. I recommend getting a 90 minute massage so they can focus on issues and give you a full body massage too. The location is great near lots of shops and restaurants if you want to make a day of it.

You will need to allow extra time to potentially drive in circles trying to find a spot and then may have to walk multiple blocks to get to the address. The other is that most of the massage rooms are upstairs This could be an issue for those with pain.

I have been getting massages from Olivia for over 5 years now. Olivia is always very caring and interested in making the massage do the most for my achy old body! Her techniques are different from other massage technicians I have visited--and over the last 10 years, I've gone to many in various settings--medical, spa, and membership chains. From her, I get deep tissue, not by force, but by finesse. She gets in to the knots with steady pressure from her fingers rather than pounding you like bread dough. I am usually very stiff, but after a massage from Olivia I can actually move my neck from side to side--a great feeling. I am not a big fan of what I call "massage music" and Olivia has been very kind in letting me choose music for my massages. It is fun to vary the pace sometimes--instead of having a slow paced super relaxing massage, having one that is energizing. Olivia does regular table massage as well as Ashiatsu bar massage. I have tried both and like them both. She is now adapting her Thai floor massage skills to table work, which I am eager to try in the new year. I was very happy both with the massage and with Olivia's professionalism before and after. I was having an issue with my shoulder which felt deep inside. Before the massage we chatted about the pain and how she might address it. The massage itself was great, she addressed the whole area and explained what she was doing and why as she went along. She got deep in there with her forearms and elbows, reminding me to breathe deeply and asking whether there was enough or too much pressure and how things were feeling. She hit several pressure points which were really effective at lighting up some of the deep tissues. I was also really pleased with the debriefing as Olivia explained what she had felt and made several recommendations for stretches and strength building in the affected area. Now a few days later, the shoulder is feeling a bit better (I had no expectation at all that the issue would disappear as it is long-standing) and I have a few new techniques to try to stretch and strengthen! read more

I got a gift certificate for a 90 minute massage from my sister for Christmas. I cashed in that gift certificate in February and I had the best massage. A couple of days before I got my massage my boyfriend broke up with me and I was feeling really down. I don't know what happened during that massage but when I came out of it, I had a completely different attitude and I was no longer sad about my boyfriend of six years breaking up with me. The massage was amazing. Olivia was phenomenal checking in to make sure that I wasn't hurting too much in to make sure that you know the massage was working for me. I saw Olivia yesterday for Ashiatsu massage. I had a nagging pain in my lower back, which she worked out completely. She started with the upper back, and that may have been where the problem started. In any case, I am now completely pain free and very happy about it. I also noticed that I have better mobility in my neck, and I didn't think I had a problem in that area when I went to see Olivia. Apparently I did, and she found it and fixed it for me. Overall, I would say that she did a terrific job with the massage, and she is also a very nice and personable lady. Olivia is an excellent massage therapist with her great sensitivity and strong intuition on where the body needs work. Her multiple skills and trainings of different massage modalities from around the world give a much more effective massage than a standard Swedish massage. I always feel wonderful after a massage. When this week it finally became too painful to put off doing anything, I decided to pore through yelp for an affordable and effective massage therapist who might be able to help and who had availability soon. I was happy to find Laura. When I contacted Laura to make an appointment, I'd erroneously read that she had an available time slot yesterday and called to make an appointment. Even after I'd realized my error, Laura offered to fit me in to her afternoon schedule. Laura warmly welcomed me to her studio and took considerable time before the actual massage to learn about my current condition, particular areas of concern, and to allow me to ask questions. It was clear from her questions that she is well-informed about the kind of conditions she treats and what might cause them. Her attentiveness did not wane during the actual massage. While I was able to largely zone out during the massage, I could perceive Laura's attentiveness to trouble spots. I appreciated her methodical approach and her ability to read my body closely. She used a significant, but welcome, amount of pressure, yet not without checking to be sure it wasn't too much. It's clear that Laura cares about her clients' well-being beyond the massage table. Her studio was pleasant, quiet despite the busy street outside, easy to find and warm. Meanwhile, her rates were more than reasonable for the level of professionalism and care she took with the massage. I was also pleased that after the massage, Laura took additional time to show me some stretches I could do at home to alleviate the pain I've been experiencing. I welcomed her willingness to suggest ways to prevent or correct problems in the first place. Best of all, I went home with the pain I'd been experiencing greatly diminished. Since my appointment yesterday, I've been able to walk around with much greater ease and sit down to work without the same discomfort I've been experiencing for months. I'd happily recommend Laura to anyone in Portland looking for a massage, whether to treat a specific condition or for general well-being.
