We didn't need it, but it was a nice gesture. There is a beach like area along the trail and I enjoy stopping in this section and looking for seashells. If you're not into hiking or biking, this still seems like a nice park to sit and enjoy the day for a few hours. Pack a picnic lunch and go!

The hike itself is easy, but still really enjoyable and refreshing. Parking is plentiful and convenient, which makes the whole experience even smoother. The paths are very very poorly marked. They are old school - painted on the tree. But the marked trees are few and far between. You have to hunt to find the trees and even so they are missing. And the path is not obvious. We and others we happened upon along the way were off the trail a few times. And there is only one map at the start. So don't go here if you're not experienced. You will get lost in these woods. It's funny because we went to Rockleigh recently and the difference is like night and day. Those trails are all marked. Frequently. Such a shame.

It was a crowded day, and the traffic entering and leaving the Gardens was intense. For anyone who enjoys natural beauty and has a whole day to relax and explore these grounds, you will absolutely love it. The fact that this garden is free is also a great gift to the community. This is a wonderful place to bring the whole family. They have about 12 different trails, all…read moreseparated in different levels of difficulty. The trails are free to enter but they do request for volunteer donation for non members. Different tiers of annul membership available to purchase at main office that comes with some wonderful perks, such as free access to trails and special events. The main office also has some of the exhibition items like insect box and turtle box. Outside the office there's also bird and butterfly cages. We went to the center for our daughter to participate in butterfly feeding event. Upon arrival we found out we had to buy the tickets for one of the two scheduled events. Luckily there were slots available to the second event on the day. The ticket was reasonably cheap, only $8. It also came with an additional bird's exhibition that took place right in front of office deck. All the stuff members were very friendly, informative and interactive. We spent wonderful couple of hours here on beautiful warm summer day.

It's kinda odd that the park essentially is divided by the one-lane road, so crossing the road was a bit of a hazard but once we were on the other side of the park across the road from the pond, the actual trails began. I believe we walked through the red, white, and orange trails which ended up taking about 30 minutes at most. There was good boardwalk coverage in many of the muckier areas, and although it wasn't exactly lush, the enjoyment of nature was such that I finished the walk feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I hope the nature preserve will be around for many decades.

I came here after a visit to the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy. It was a beautiful day and it's…read moreonly a 2 minute or so walk down the block from the Gardens. It's a 40 acre nature preserve that's easily walkable. After you first walk in there's an area with picnic benches and a house that has a cute bird garden in the back. The public areas are kept well and clean. Unfortunately, some people don't know how to pick up after themselves and ruin it. There are benches throughout the preserve. There are two former Hudson River estates located in here. They pretty much are in ruins. It looks eerie, yet inviting. They are working on these properties so they're all closed off. The best part of the preserve are the TONS of white tailed deer that roam throughout. They're not too scared of humans. They'll walk right in front of you without a care in the world. I found great joy in that. I was able to sit at one of the picnic tables and enjoy watching them graze on the grass. I don't get to do that in NYC! I also came across a groundhog while walking through the place. There are many layers here and steep slopes with stairs that lead down to other areas going towards a street, some housing and towards the river. The butterfly garden was nice, but I didn't see a butterfly during my visit. Lenoir Preserve is very quite with not too much people traffic so if you're looking for a nice place to relax, read a book or take a hike, it's perfect. They say no pets allowed, but there were quite a few people there walking their dogs.
