I also had an old fashioned which was lovely. They had a live band which was really good. The service staff were really friendly and efficient. I will definitely visit this spot again

The Botanist in Sheffield is quite hidden away in Leopold Square in Sheffield city centre, close to…read morethe City Hall stop on the Supertram network. It's probably the only bar and restaurant to also be a maze, its HUGE and other than outdoor seating it surely doesn't feel like you're entering a restaurant. They have 3 sets of two doors but strangely only one is in use and there is no sign for this, once inside you basically go back on yourself into a dark, dingy, horrible corner where they have the lift. After leaving the lift, finding the main restaurant is equally as puzzling and difficult. Admittedly, the decor in the restaurant is unique and innovative and true style of The New World Company restaurants, albeit I preferred the Media City branch, there were many similarities with trees, huts etc. It to me felt like an old bank or barn but refurbished, possibly even a potential wedding venue. I dined here during an ongoing promotion where they offered 40% off the food bill in January and ordered my regular Chicken and Chorizo Hanging Kebab which would usually come to £13.95. I did notice the menu to be slightly stained and sticky however service was reasonable with the waitress (Becca), seems to do a lot, despite not being overly busy she seemed to have a huge workload due to them appearing understaffed and she still worked in a friendly and polite manner which is commendable. They do also offer a set menu all year round however this still at £12.95 for two courses this still ends up costing slightly more than the 40% off promotion, so I have no idea why I was offered it. Also, I found it strange that they labelled dairy-free and vegetarian on both menus but only NG (non-gluten) on the regular menu, meaning if you did order from the set menu, you'd have to cross-check between them. Sadly the slight cleanliness issue which arose with the menus seemed to continue with the cutterly (ready on the table) which also wasn't entirely clean sadly which also is uncommon by usual Botanist standards. I did enjoy the majority of my kebab, while I do feel the garlic seemed to taste more overpowering and heavy than other branches, I did also find the meat on the ends to taste a little chewy and overcooked, while the middle was fine. It still had some good flavours and was rather enjoyable and certainly warranted good value for money, even at 50% off. Certainly not the best branch of The Botanist I've been too, but my food was still pretty good, as was most aspects of my experience. I do feel a lot of small improvements do need to be made, however, only warranting a three-star rating for now.

They have a room upstairs that you can book and it is really lovely. There is even a projector and screen if you wish to show anything. From my colleagues phone calls, it sounded like they are very accommodating, especially when she had to change the numbers a few times when people cancelled or the inevitable person who invites themselves! Because of how many of us there were, they had us pre-order and they do this all online. I received an email and it took me to a link with starters, mains, and desserts. You can change your mind up until 4 days before the event. I ended up ordering the sausage and mash for my main and the Bruschetta for my starter. I figured I wouldn't have enough room for dessert. Because I was a bit worried about parking... and I wanted to have a few drinks, Mr. Snarky dropped me off, but after 6:30 p.m. the bus lane seems to be the place where everyone parks. They also have a large beer garden and on this night it would have been lovely as it was so warm inside. They have a large range of Gin, so I had a Gin and Tonic with their gin of the month. It was lovely! The food was really good as well. I loved the Bruschetta because they used a variety of different tomatoes. The sausage (Apricot and Pork) was lovely, but it was massive! I didn't end up eating all of it. The waitress was great and she made sure that everyone was served and that we had everything that we needed. I did not realize that it is related to The York in Broomhill... which explains why I enjoyed the food so much!

Make sure you book in advance because the restaurant gets busy. Their menu changes regularly and they have a daily range of pies and sausage specials to choose from. I really recommend the pies - you will be stuffed silly with delicious pastry and tasty fillings such as chicken and bacon, steak and ale, and some great vegetarian options. Their drink selection is great with plenty of local ales on tap. The bar area has quite a lot of seating and plenty of standing room. There is a beer garden out the back for sunny summer days. Definitely the best place to eat if you're this side of Sheffield.

Went in recently with my wife and it's changed slightly, but not much for the better. The decor in the tap room is as comfy and warm as ever, but the dining area was cold, with metal tables and white walls throughout. Beer and food prices seemed to have doubled - but is the way with any longstanding pub once taken over by a chain. The food was good. Slow to emerge for a quiet day but honest and tasty. Based on the food I would have rated this place a 4, but my wife ordered coffee and a waitress with tattoos sighed when we asked for it, then argued with her when she asked for milk and served it whilst Tutting and rolling her eyes. Plus we felt somewhat uncomfortable because a man who we assume was an off duty manager/chef was sat drinking at the bar and not once did he stop staring at us when we ordered and ate. Would come here again if the kitchen got a pub-transplant

The 'old' Lescar was legendary for it's very cheap lager and great atmosphere but was crying out for a refurb, which duly happend last year. The 'new' Lescar has a much trendier decor and sells a wider range of beers(which are excellent), but at a greatly increased price. They also sell food, which is also nice but pricey for what you get. There is a function room at the back of the pub which hosts the famous 'Last Laugh' comedy club every week and also several other regular events. Despite the prices, i'd still reccommend a visit
