Aesthetic Nurse Megan - Lips After Megan

After heavily researching lip fillers I decided to bite the bullet and make an appointment with…read morelocal nurse Megan Handley. I sent her an online inquiry on 08/06/2018 asking what brands she used and she directed me back to her website (where no brands were listed) Assuming she would then disclose the products in the appointment/consultation I booked for 06/07/18. At my appointment I filled out and signed a consent form. As there was no Dr on site Megan informed me I'd need to FaceTime Dr Aaron Stanes and as the camera on her phone was broken she asked me to call off my phone. I had a very brief conversation with Dr Aaron, he went through risks associated with filler, asked general questions about my health, he did not at any point mention the name of the product being prescribed and did not give me options. As Megan began to prepare the product I started asking questions about what the product was to which she answered it's hylauronic acid. I then asked what type of filler it was, she answered - thick filler. I asked again what is the name of the brand - avoiding the question again she answered - we stock many brands the one I'm going to use on you is hard to pronounce. I asked again, is it Juvederm? Restylane? She answered - no it's an Austrian brand. Looking back now I should've walked out then and there but hindsight is 20/20. The product was opened out of sight. I remember seeing a glimpse of white box. Before I left the clinic Megan gave me an aftercare sheet. Before handing it to me she crossed her number out and told me it was her old phone number but never offered me her new phone number. Just under 24 hours later I got home from work just after 3pm to look in the mirror to see my lips were white. I wasn't in any pain, but the whiteness seemed strange to me and I had read about blanching being dangerous so I reached out to my friends who advised me to call the clinic ASAP. Not having a phone number for Megan and wanting to speak to someone immediately I then remembered I had called Dr Aaron Stanes from my phone yesterday and his number was in my recent call history. I called him. He didn't answer. So I sent him the a text message asking him to get back to me. I then emailed Megan at 4:18pm but as it was within business hours I was worried she'd be with a client. In the meantime my girlfriend who manages a Medi Spa in LA was on FaceTime with me and she had asked me to touch the area and test the capillary and also instructed placing a warm compress on the area. She was concerned. Dr Aaron called me back and also advised me to do the warm compress. He advised me he'd speak to another senior Dr and call me back. There didn't seem any urgency or major concern. When he called me back he'd come to the conclusion that the reaction was from the product used to clean the area prior to the treatment. The following day on the 08/07 (Sunday) my lips had gotten some color back in them. I didn't feel comfortable returning to Nurse Megan or Dr Aaron for further treatment or advice as I just felt they were so quick to play down my issue and made me feel as though I had over reacted. Not only were they difficult to contact but I felt as though the shady behavior and the effort they went to to avoid disclosing the name of the product used made me feel as though I couldn't trust them and that the product used may not be legal in Australia. I contacted Megan via email requesting the name of the product used. She responded on the 10/07 again avoiding my question about the product name stating it was - dermal filler - hyaluronic acid and that this was not what I had a reaction to. I responded on the 10/07 requesting a copy of my medical record and asking for the name and manufacturer of the specific filler I was given. Megan responded on the 12/07 stating- "that it appears to be a reaction to the chlorhexadine wash and not filler" "Croma GmbH 204222 1/2020 are the product codes on the filler" To this day Nurse Megan has never picked up the phone and spoken to me directly about this incident and I am yet to receive a copy of an actual medical report / chart from my appointment back in July. If I hadn't have had Dr Aaron's number in my call history back on the 06/07 I would've had no immediate way of getting in touch with anyone post treatment. PRESENT DAY - After the initial swelling went down and the color came back to my lips the product migrated above the vermilion border. I sought a second opinion on this from another clinic and have since had my lips dissolved. After one dissolving session the product is still present in my top lip and still sits above the border. My advice to anyone booking in with nurse Megan. DONT. The before and after photos on her social media are not an accurate representation of her work and the product used is a cheap filler and is not worth her price tag.

Went to Nurse Megan on a recommendation from a friend…read more Communication before the appointment was good and post-appointment was good. I had a few questions which she answered for me without a problem. Totally happy with the results and would come back.
