My experience at cliffs was very up close and personal. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and paid close attention to detail. I was even given some tips on how to properly care for and extend the life of all of my shoes. I will most definitely be returning to cliffs for future shoe repairs and maintenance! read more

i want to like this place because they seem like nice people but i was really annoyed with the (lack of) service i experienced recently. brought two pairs of boots needing simple repair. was told to come back on day X. came back on day X. couldn't find the guy that made the order or my shoes. finally after about 20min of rummaging they called him on the cell phone. shoes aren't ready, was asked come back on day Y. i came back a few days AFTER day Y. two kids are sitting there looking at me like i'm crazy. finally one girl, who was eating chinese food with her fingers, gets up to help me. takes her chinese-y food fingers and greases up a bunch of other shoes in a listless attempt to find my shoes. "we can't find your shoes can you come back?" "no i can NOT come back. this is my second time coming back" "oh." she sits down and asks the other kid to find the phone number for the guy. returns to eating chinese food. meanwhile i notice ONE of my boots (one boot, not the pair) just chillin on the shelf alone - wtf after an eternity of waiting, an adult finally shows up, goes digging around and finds the rest of my shoes. with no apology. they do an okay job but for the money you could go somewhere else that does a better job and has better customer service. read more

I really wanted to like Cliff's, because the owner seems like such a nice guy. However, I had similar experiences to others who have posted here: rather spendy services, and my shoes were never ready on time. One pair in particular took at least a week longer than the promised time. He did do a good job replacing the zipper on a pair of my boots, though. read more

Awful in every way possible. I brought in two pairs of Wallabe's that needed new soles and a pair of dansko clogs that needed to be polished. The man who took my shoes required a 50 percent deposit. The grand total being $146 I figured they were going to do a professional job in a timely manner. He told me to come back in two weeks. When I returned the original man I spoke with wasn't there but another man gave me 50 cents to call him from a pay phone located in the store. When I reached him he gave a long winded explaination about how the kind of rubber on the wallabe's was hard to find (really? ok...) and he needed another week. A week and a half later I went in - same thing, call up an excuse on the pay phone. I don't understand why the other guy couldn't help me and why I had to call the man instead of the person who worked there. It took a month and a half and when I finally got my shoes, paid the rest of the bill and took my shoes home the dye on the dansko's was dark brown/ maroon, not bright red like they originally were. The wallabe's soles came right off as if they were merely taped on. I was so angry I didn't even want to tell them they messed up, and angry at myself for paying so much for terrible craftsmanship and service. read more

I had one pair of boots repaired at Cliff's and had the same experience as many posters here. I was told that the total cost would be $30 to replace a zipper as well as re-heel the boots. The men at the shop said the boots would be ready in 5 days, and I informed them that I needed to pick them up before going on a trip. Like many other people, I called to check on the progress, and was told I would have to wait an additional week! After returning from my trip, I finally went by to get my boots. They had replaced the zipper very poorly. The stitching was in a totally different color (dark brown, the rest of the stitching on the boot was more of a caramel color) and the stitching was so sloppy it looked like a child might have done it! To compound matters, they never reheeled the boots, but charged me the same $30! The whole experience was totally unacceptable and I would never return here. read more

I came upon a pair of discarded welder boots that were totally styling and my size. I instantly fell in love with them. They were however almost in complete disrepair. I brought them to Cliff's, asked a bunch of questions about the feasibility of repairing them to the point of being worth wearing and worth paying for them. They gave me some options, a reasonable price and a faster than stated turn-around. I am very happy with their work. read more

They are the WORSE!!! they store is dirty. They hound you for money. they fixed my suitcase charged me $250.00. I asked him to give me a quote not fix it. I took a pair of boots here to get the side zippers replaced, and it was ridiculously expensive: $60 just to replace two zippers. I figured that if I was paying so much (I probably could have gotten a totally new pair of boots for $60), they would do a really good job. But they did such a shoddy job with the stitching that I had to take the boots back and ask them to redo one part that was already pulling apart. They redid that 1-2 inches, but with yellow thread on my brown boots! The whole thing looked awful, like something I - or any 7-year-old - could have easily done myself. And now, a few weeks later, the stitching is already pulling apart again; I will probably have to buy new boots anyway. I really like the idea of taking shoes to a local cobbler to have them repaired rather than buying something new, but unfortunately I just lost money at Cliff's. read more

This place is absolutely terrible. First of all, it is an extreme ripoff, i can get shoes repaired for much much cheaper in the center of manhattan! Second of all, cliff does not even do whatever you asked him to do. And third of all, the shoes are not even finished by the time he tells you to pick them up. It is a huge disappointment and a shame that that is the only shoes repair place around. read more

I REALLY wish I had read the other reviews before I brought my 2 pairs of dog-chewed shoes to Cliff. Identical shoes in different colors, both needed new insoles and one needed a new strap. After some uncomfortable negotiations (I see what another reviewer meant by creepy) Cliff promised them in a week's time, a Monday. Stopped by Monday, no shoes. Called Tuesday, he said they'd be ready that evening, when I called back later he said they weren't ready after all because he needed more materials. A few days later he said they were ready, but one was still missing a strap and the other had a big uncomfortable lump inside. He eventually finished the job about a week and a half late. At least he was apologetic and did knock off $10 from the price ($60 for both pairs!) when I complained. I am still not happy with my shoes either - the new strap is much thicker than the old, and the lump is better but still noticeable - but I will not go back in there again. I am just glad I didn't leave him my worn-out boots too! For those I'll be checking Yelp for another shoe repair shop with happier customers. read more

I went to cliff to have my shoes repaired and wow what an experience first of all i was quoted one price and when i went back to get my shoes he tried to charge me 30 extra dollars not plus he was suppose to just do the work and not do anything extra without consulting me first. he claimed he shine the shoes and the guy gave me the wrong price. Not only that he has a very nasty attitude for a businessman and he clims he lost my shoes he says to me to tell you the truth i really dont know where your shoes are upsatirs somewhere you are goona have to come back for them . I would not ever recommend this So called repair shop to anyone; Even though they shine shoes. Shining Is All that they could Be Good at. They talk a big talk; but are so Unorganized; that they have No System to know where anything is and No Filing System to know who's Belongings are who's. We as Customers have to Say here is My Belongings. Why give Customers Tickets if You Don't know where Our Belongings are ? Most of Customers Belongings are on Top of Everyone else By other Yelp Reviews; they Refuse to Refund for Poor Work or Weeks or Months of Waiting for Our Belongings and they Say they Don't Keep Cash in the Store; which Is a Lie. They Keep Some Money in the Register & Money also In their Pockets at All Times. How I know this Is; I got to know them personally and See How they Treat Some Customers. What I mean By that is; if a Customer is Unhappy; they Get in the Customers Face. For I Seen it to Many Times. They Call those Customers as Ignorant. Though a Few Brave Customers Threaten to Sue Them. For Business Do have Insurance for Such and I know for a Fact that they Do; for they Told Me. They're Making a Boat Load of Money; as in they Have Another Store on Lancaster Ave and Another in New Jersey as Partners. They also Own Several Properties that they Rent Out. So I am Sure They're Not Paying 100% of the All Cash Business to Taxes. Like other Cash Businesses; they Lie and there is No Proof on How many Customers come in every Day or how much they Charge everyone. The difference is One worker Charged Me Not Over $ 20.00; where as Another worker wanted to charge Me almost $ 50.00. I choose the Lower Price; Like Most Would. For what I Asked to be done to My Shoes and what was discussed; wasn't done fully. It would have cost more to have all that was discussed; but since all wasn't done as asked; they price was just okay. A bit to much for the little that was done. Do not take any of your shoes to Cliff's. I sent a pair of shoes to have the heels replaced and I when I received them, they were in a worse condition than I sent them! The heels were fixed, but the material on my shoes were flaking off! I complained and they disregarded it. I spent $16 for nothing! Find another cobbler and save your money! read more

This place is the WORST. Awful workmanship, insanely high prices, careless work. They quoted me a crazy high price ($75) for my shoes (replace the sole and shoe shine) and I made a very bad choice to leave my shoes with them. When I returned, the "new" sole was peeling away from the bottom of the shoe because they had carelessly left them on a heater for a few days. They also hadn't fixed other problems that we had agreed upon. They blamed me for all of this, stating that I should have come back the previous week. They essentially held my shoes at ransom and would not return them to me until I paid the full price, and would not offer any discount considering that the shoes were in terrible condition. DO NOT go here for any sort of repair issues, they have no idea what they are doing, and the middle brother who owns this place is the biggest jerk. I went to Cliff's because I'm in the area. I needed new heels put on a pair of my boots. When I went, they not only insisted they also put tips on, but it was $35, which I had to pay right away. They told me to come back the following Thursday (I went on a Friday). Thursday I received a phone call telling me my boots weren't ready yet, so could I please come on Saturday. I said I would be out of town Saturday, so they told me to come Friday at 4, which I did. The place was closed. I went Saturday morning before I went away, and they told me that the heels were finished, but the tips (which I hadn't even wanted!) weren't. They wouldn't keep them, and told me to take them home but bring them back the following Monday. I took them back and was given a card with a phone number for the store and nothing else. I gave them my phone number in return, so I could be notified when they were finished. A week and a half later, I had to call them myself to find out the status of my shoes, and they were very rude when I called, insisting that I was at fault for not being given a name or a card with a number on it. Finally, once I told them who I was and they realized what shoes were mine, they told me that they had been done for days! I finally went to pick them up, and while the heels looked fine, the tips (which I hadn't even wanted!) look like they're ready to peel right back off again. read more

Have to agree with R.M. I've been to Cliff's before. A younger guy did the repairs. Great job so I went back. The old guy must only like to take women's money. He acts confused like he doesn't know what he's doing when you remind him he promised the work would be done in a day or two but it took a week. I came back a few times but skipped a day. He had the audacity to chide me for not coming back when I said. I reminded him he didn't keep his word either..so what?. One pair of shoes I asked if they could be fixed because I wasn't sure myself. He assures me he can do it...just needed a little glue and polish them up. Hah!! He was so upset that I took them out of the bag to check before I left the store!! He did nothing but fix the heel. He switched from creepy to a two - year old throwing a tantrum after be caught in the 'cookie jar'. Ladies, only go when you have a guy with you. He may know what he's doing but he won't 'waste' his time with a female!!! read more

Took boots in for sole replacement and heel cleets - supposed to be finished on 11/26 - the establishment was not open for business when I went to pick them up. I returned 12/4 - there were two employees in the shop who could not find my boots and wanted me to come back later - nothing was tagged or identified in any way in this shop - I finally found my boots that had new heels and NO replaced soles. They were supposed to have cleats and new soles. I previously left a 15.00 deposit on the total bill of $40.00 and I then I attempted to leave with my unrepaired boots and call it a day. They demanded that I pay the full balance event though the boots were NOT repaired. They were very arrogant. They took the boots and refused to give them back - I asked where the owner was and they said 'we are the owners this is a family business' I called the police - they actually became extremely profane and confrontational. THEN they called the 'owner' who told them to give me my boots. They attempted to get the ticket back - said they wanted to 'rip it up' - the ticket clearly states the work that was to be done. I did go around the corner to make a police complaint but they were not interested in the least. Well that's my experience and I encourage others to pass this establishment right by unless you are looking for bad attitudes, inferior workmanship and reprehensible business tactics. read more
