My grandmother's side of the family is from Castlemartyr. We were looking for the old family home, but unfortunately didn't have a street name or address. My great uncle suggested we ask the locals, so I told Mom the best place would probably be the pubs.
We were there in the afternoon, so Clifford's Bar was empty. It's a cute, homey pub with a friendly female bartender. I had a Sprite, Mom had a Beamish, and we talked with the bartender. She suggested we speak with the owner, Neil, who was across the street at his butcher shop. (He was helpful and I appreciated that he took the time to talk with two random American women who popped in on him!)
There was a good selection of beers, wines, and spirits. I'd love to see Clifford's Bar during the evening when it's more conducive to the bar crowd, but we still had a nice experience! read more
