Sunday, 1 Sept. 2024 -- Section 117, Row Q - inside Progressive Field for a Cleveland Guardians baseball game
    Agnes I.

I finally attended a Cleveland Guardians game on Sunday afternoon, September 1st 2024 with my friend Christina (I got 2 free tickets). I visited again in on September 19th when another Cleveland friend of mine invited me to watch a game with her and her friend who was visiting from Europe. For both games, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the game. I had previously been to the Progressive Field stadium years prior but I was helping out a vendor instead of watching the game (I didn't have a ticket) so it was nice to return as a spectator/fan. I ordered chicken nachos from Barrio, without cheese, during my first game experience on September 1st. It was too much food for one person and I didn't realise that until after I got it so I recommend you split the cost with someone else especially because it is over $10. Even if you don't follow baseball like myself, if you enjoy watching professional sports, then I recommend that you come to a Guardians game. The crowd atmosphere, the many food options, the throwing of free t-shirts, the excitement of the game and so much more make it a worthwhile experience. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 96/150 total reviews in 2024 - 745 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 29 September 2024

I usually don't do reviews on MLB parks BUT THOSE MOZZARELLA STICKS WERE THE BEST IVE EVER HAD. I stood in such a long line and the lady serving us was the nicest ever. She was apologizing for the wait and was so funny. Idk what specific store i got them from but they were so good. I'll never forget her or those jaw dropping mozzarella sticks! Literally just go for them.

Cleveland Guardians night game at Progressive Field, August 2024

$30 dollars for me, $30 dollars for two kids and what did we get? Pre-game polka, beautiful night game, three free t shirts, 2$ beer, $1 hot dogs, a mascot with an evil twin (We Support Twin Mustard), and the most epically-long musically-themes fireworks show I have ever seen (20 minutes!). And that's not all - this is a real ballpark where you can get right down to the field and see the players, catch errant practice balls, and get soooooo disappointed when Andrew Chafin of the Rangers and his amazing stache-n-mullet come over to provide signed balls ... to the guy just right beside us. Boo. But kid #1 is correct - this is a much better place to watch baseball than the Rogers Centre.

Had a simply delightful time at a game this season... I was stopping in Cleveland for a break on a road trip and needed something to do. Why not see a baseball game? The stadium is nice. Plenty of good seats and a cool local vibe. The entrance I used had a patio area for food and drink with a view of the outfield. Sort of a party area for folks who wanted to hang out together. One noticeable feature was the reasonable amount of advertising. It didn't distract from enjoying the game, compared to a stadium like Target Field where the advertising screams at you for the entire game. They even had Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy as the seasonal beer choice. The bonus was the dramatic walk-off 10th inning victory... Overall, a fun experience with a great game and friendly fans, in a pleasant stadium. Would definitely go again! It was one of the best games I've ever attended.

The Cleveland Indians had one of the greatest baseball players of all time, pitcher Cy Young. These days, Cy Young is best known for the Cy Young Award, given to the best pitchers in MLB each year. Young was an Ohioan through and through, playing for the Cleveland Spiders (1890-1898 - before the Indians franchise was formed and moved to Cleveland) and the Indians, then known as the Naps (1909-1911). He's reflected in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Naps gear. The team was established in 1894 and has been known as the Indians since 1915. Under the Indians moniker, Cleveland has won two World Series championships: 1920 and 1948. Interestingly, the 1919 through 1921 World Series were best-of-nine (!) affairs and the Indians beat the Brooklyn Robins, five games to two. The 1948 World Series was a standard best-of-seven with the Indians besting the Boston Braves, four games to two. (Fun fact: The Indians and Braves, now in Atlanta, met again in the World Series in 1995 and the Braves won the rematch. Now, they just need a World Series rubber match.) The Indians play in the Jake, officially known as Progressive Field, in downtown Cleveland, next door to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, home of the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers. Progressive Field is sometimes referred to as "The Jake" because of its original name, Jacobs Field, named after then-owner Richard Jacobs. Progressive (insurance company of Ohio) has naming rights to the ballpark, opened in 1994, from 2008 to 2024. In 2018, due to increasing social pressure, the Indians ended use of the Chief Wahoo logo, a logo which had been around since at least the mid-1940s (over 70 years). Unlike the NFL's Washington Redskins, who changed their name to the "Washington Football Team" in 2020, the Indians have stuck with their name, but I wouldn't be surprised if it changes soon. The Indians have done well in recent years thanks to two-time AL Manager of the Year Terry Francona. Since becoming the team's manager in 2013, Cleveland has qualified for the playoffs five out of eight years, advancing as far as the World Series in 2016. That year, the Indians lost arguably the greatest Game 7 in World Series history. The Chicago Cubs won, 8-7, and ended their 108-year World Series title drought, but that's another story. I think it's safe to say Cleveland's baseball team is in good hands with Tito.

My friend is a season ticket holder for the Cleveland Guardians, so we decided to visit when our team (the Reds) were going to be in town. Ticket prices were very reasonable, but the concession stand were way overpriced. This was also the first time we had been there since they rebranded and it was cool to see all the new logos everywhere. It is so convenient that the stadium is right down town and I like that they have a hall of fame section to explore before the game. Overall, it was a really fun night at the ballpark with some great friends!

I visited Progressive Field to watch the Cleveland Indians play the Yankees as part of a stadium-seeing road trip. I was actually incredibly surprised by how much I enjoyed my experience there (even if Corey Kluber pitched for the Indians that night and destroyed the Yankees during the game... sad face). Besides watching the Yankees make ridiculous errors in the first inning, flail against Kluber's pitching, and end up losing the game? (sigh) There wasn't a bad view in the place. Perhaps one of the things I most enjoyed was the variety of concessions with locally-focused menus (or beer vendors with plenty of local/craft options - even if one of the first locations I went to was staffed with folks who didn't know all that much about what local craft beers they were serving). There were generally a number of really great concessions though - food and drink options for everyone (one of my favorites being Barrio, "tacos + tequila + whiskey"... I mean, c'mon!). I actually walked around the park a number of times - alone and then with friends - in order to take in the entire experience. Heritage Park space is a nice little gem, and then there are classics like the Jim Thome statue, etc. Ticket prices are pretty affordable, though I ultimately decided to take in the game from a seat in the Club level. Amenities in the Club level were delightful, with food and drink options included in the price... though I actually got most of my food from the main concourse level. That said, the Club Level even has random barrels of peanuts for every seating section... just fill up a little serving bag to go. :) TL;DR Surprisingly awesome. Would definitely go back.

We purchased tickets for the Saturday, June 21st interleague game between the visiting Cleveland Indians versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. Had I known when we purchased the tickets that there would be a heat wave in So. Cal., I may have opted to watch the game at home, but since we had the tickets, we decided to brave the sweltering ~100 degree heat. Photo: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UuxH5yQpl73XJkzfLN-qdg?select=WLkV5-gXrRcBtbOIt0cusA Highlights: - Cold beer tastes excellent in this concrete desert environment. - Our seats were located in the shade or we would surely have died in that sun. - I proudly wore my Cleveland Indians ball cap (which was Made in the U.S.A.). - Meeting the many dedicated Cleveland Indians fans who stayed for the entire game. - Witnessing Cleveland's pitcher C.C. Sabathia hit a first pitch home run. - Watching the Cleveland Indians win in 11 Innings. - Knowing that I'll be watching future games at home on television. Cash Expenditures: - Filling the Gas Tank $75 - Field Level seats (1/2 off) $70 - Dodger Beers $50 - Dodger Dogs $20 - Dodger Hat (for Deb) $16 - Dodger Logo - Water Sprayer $15 - Dodger Peanuts $11 - SPF 50 Sunscreen $10 - Dodger Magazine $ 5 Go Tribe! By the way, in the L.A. Dodgers review, I thanked them for: 1) Draining my wallet of cash to pay their triple A players. 2) Losing to my favorite ballclub, the Cleveland Indians. 3) Reminding me it makes more sense to watch the game at home.

Dear Cleveland Indians, We drove all the way from Pittsburgh to watch you play. We love your park, it's really great. Pregame entertainment was also very nice. The "Hot Dog" race was very exciting, I was very happy to see Ketchup beat Mustard, especially after Mustard tried to cheat by taking a short cut. But the best part was you won! Awesome game! The most exciting part of the game was when Tony Sipp came in on relief in the seventh inning, throwing "heat", striking out the final two Twins players, to end their rally. The crowd when wild!! You could hear Chief Wahoo beating his drums like crazy! It was great!!! The Indians ending up winning 4 to 2. Thanks for a great game! Sincerely, Julie D and BJ

What a major leave park! This is my third game and even though it has rained or been bitterly cold we still have enjoyed a bang up time. Tonight we were in the VIP suites with all the food and drink one could consume, Private seats and servers. Was a very comfortable 51F degree game. I do like to sit in the open seats close to the dugouts though to see the players and my husband(a former pitcher) can call every pitch - pretty fun. Good food, good ti

Tickets were affordable that night, so we decided to go--and wow, what a night. The moment the game started, I saw a look on his face I had never seen before. Pure excitement. Pure energy. Pure "I-can't-believe-this-is-happening" joy. I may or may not have teared up a little. Honestly, one of the proudest moments of my life. My son has always liked the LA Lakers (partly because his name is tied to them), and now he's determined to see the Lakers play when they're in town this Wednesday. Since we're clearly not basketball people, we had no idea King James plays for the Lakers... and now we totally get why that stadium is going to be an absolute madhouse that night. Our Cavs seats were higher than I've ever sat in a stadium (hello, vertigo), but it didn't matter. Not at all. This wasn't about the view--it was about sharing that incredible experience with my son, soaking in the crowd, the energy, the lights, the noise, the everything. If you ever get the chance to go to a Cavs game, even if you're not a sports fan, do it. Because it's not just a game--it's an experience, a memory, and, in our case, a little slice of magic with my favorite guy.

The seats were great however a little tight for those over 240lbs. Either way I squeezed in with close company and cheered on the Cavs. Food and beverage was easy to get to and priced just as you would imagine at a pro venue. They kept the crowd entertained and everyone seemed to enjoy the experience. I will be back for another one and will phone a friend for the best available ticket options. Go Cavs!!!

This team is associated with the Columbus Blue Jackets. This means that throughout the year, some players may be sent to this team or taken from this team. I love that Cleveland has a team (kinda wish they were associated with Pittsburgh, but that is ok). I love the mascot (s), the logo, and the overall fun that is associated with this team. The fun part of AHL is there is more of an aspect of community, fun, and family. The prices of the tickets are more affordable (the nosebleeds, which is the middle of the Q are only $10). It is a good way to get to enjoy the Q without the expensive price tag. There are cheerleaders (which I find weird) and sometimes even kids who are honorary cheerleaders. The media team is decent and shows replays (not all AHL teams have that capability). I suspect that much of the team is shared with the Cavaliers. They have fun promo nights with some geared to children. They even have a game you can take your dog to! I feel like this is not utilized enough as the games should be more filled than they are. The team itself ebs and flows. They recently won a championship, but both games I have been to they lost :-(. It is hard to gauge this as the team can be very different if the CBJ has many injuries. The hockey is fast and quality (these are potential NHL players). I only had to take a point because they are part of CBJ.... and I wish the crowd was larger.

You get access to a wide variety of quality food. There are not a lot of buffets in the area these days. By default, this buffet is, therefore, one of the best buffets in the area. It wasn't very busy and we got through the non-member line quickly. We were excorted to a table and then we went to the buffet. The buffet is long, so it's a little walk to get from one end to the other. The food all looked good. We skipped the Mexican and salad sections. There was a tasty looking hamburger buffet, but I skipped that too. The pizza looked good as well, but since my life is full of pizza, I skipped that section as well. Finally, I saw the stuff I like - veggies, pasta, and meat. I didn't get any fried chicken, but I loaded up on pasta and various sauteed veggies like green beans, sweet potatoes, broccolini, and mashed potatoes. When I returned to the table, our drinks still were not delivered, but they arrived within a few minutes. The veggies were delicious, but the brocollini was a little tough. The mashed potatoes were awesome. I loved the veggies. On my second trip, I got some more veggies and mac n cheese. I didn't want to over eat, so I kept it to two plates. On Wednesdays or Thursdays, I will definitely be making a visit to this buffet because it is so much better than some of the other food in the area and in some cases, cheaper. Take for example, two summer rolls, a glass of water, and some noodles and veggies is $24 at a nearby restaurant. While this meal is tasty, it's not a good value. At yet another nearby food stand, I can get a bottle of water, veggies, meat, and noodles with sauce for $7 - a great value. But one can only dine at the same establishment so many times when the menu is limited. I'll be back, Jack!

Parking was not an issue as I work downtown and went after work. Admission to the event was about what you would expect; you need to have your electronic ticket available on your phone. The security check was fast and efficient. I was struck by how generic the concourse was; there are plenty of food stands but not a huge variety and there is really no style or anything to see. The bathrooms were clean, but also pretty basic. I was disapointed that the water fountains were not working. I did not see any of the promotional opportunities even though I walked through about half of stadium. My seat was the last row of lower bowl near the Dog Pound end of the Stadium. The seat was comfortable and not too crowded. The concert started about 10 minutes late from the day of start time which was 30 minutes later then the original announced start time. The stage was hard to see for a while since we were looking right into the sun and the stage was very dark. It also did not help that the band members were in dark clothing and were blending into the background. The video screens did help significantly. The sound was pretty good for a stadium show, loud without being oppressive. Journey put on a very good 80 minute show, playing all their hits. I will say the lead singer has a great voice and very energetic stage presence. If you get a chance to see them I would say go for it. Overall Cleveland Browns Stadium looks nice from the outside and inside the bowl, but the concourses could really use some sprucing up. There didn't seem to be a lot of variety in the concessions, mostly the expected stadium food. Pretty much a serviceable modern stadium, but not near the top of the NFL heap.
