We've been taking our dog Max to this groomer for years and have always trusted them with his care. He's a 10-pound senior rescue with a sweet temperament, and until now, we've never had any issues -- he's even received positive feedback from the staff in the past. However, our most recent experience was incredibly upsetting. When I arrived to pick Max up, the groomer appeared frazzled and visibly angry. She told me that Max bit her four times and was too matted. This came as a total shock -- Max has never bitten anyone before. He has four teeth and has always been a gentle, if slightly nervous, little guy. Without any prior communication or check-in via text (which we've always received in the past), she charged us $125 -- well over the usual $90. I was in such shock of it all, I even gave her a $12 tip on top of that $35 overcharge, since she said Max was so terrible (those words). She also said she didn't think she'd be able to groom him anymore due to his age and the biting. When we got him home, he was skittish, wouldn't let me put his collar back on, and was ravenous and dehydrated after being there for four hours. To make matters worse, we had to reach out to her just to find out when we could pick him up. I think she rushed to finish him, was angry and harsh in her manner since she was rushing, and that resulted in him biting her. This whole experience has left us deeply unsettled. Max came from a shelter and is sensitive to how he's handled. Based on his behavior afterward -- and reading reviews from others with similar concerns -- I fear he may not have been treated kindly. In hindsight, we've overlooked too many red flags over the years: unanswered phones, lack of timely responses, long wait times for a small dog, and the always chaotic energy at pickup and drop-off. There is nothing good to say about this irresponsible groomer. The space is small land there are dogs of all shapes and sizes roaming. We dropped out little rescue off for a groom-she apparently was scared and had a seizure- they took my dog across the street dropped her off at the vet and NEVER called me. The Vet called me 9 she was overwhelmed and dehydrated most likely because of being there for 3 plus hours and they still had not groomed her. I can not imagine how this place passes an inspection. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE. They are understaffed & treat too many dogs at once. I picked up my dog on Saturday and she was horribly cut up. The vet put her on a 10 day course of antibiotics and 2 x day topical cream. Still have yet to hear back from Cleopetra's. UNEXCUSABLE. read more

We used to take my miniature poodle here pretty regularly, but when we recently tried to schedule an appointment we had to call THREE TIMES before someone finally responded. When they finally called back the women told me she couldn't groom my dog because he was a "senior dog" and they were too busy to "care for his needs." He is around 13, but he doesn't have any special needs that need to be cared for. When we asked for jennifer, the previous owner who had no problem grooming our dog, they said she sold it. We use to bring our dog here because of the great way they treat the dogs in the stress free environment, but the new owners judged our dog without even meeting him before. seriously disappointed. read more

I would love to give 5 stars for Cleopetra's. I really would! Their grooming is top-notch, their prices are fair (based on the size of your dog and the difficulty of the job), and they seem to care about the animals. I've recommended them to friends and coworkers alike. I've been bringing my pit mix and my yorkie mix here for almost a year now. Why can't I give 5 stars? Because they are disorganized and difficult to get a hold of (bizarre because that's the opposite of what you would want for an appointment-based service). I think I have more calls to Cleopetra's in my phone history than I do to my spouse, simply because they don't answer their phone. They do have online booking, but just today I had the groomer call me 2 hours before my appointment to cancel, despite having booked in advance last week. Further, the last time I went, I had someone call me to confirm an appointment the night before, only to show up the next day and be refused service because there was only one groomer on hand (understandable that she didn't want to clip my pit bull's nails by herself, so I don't blame her, but this points to a lack of communication between the groomers and the manager/owner). I've heard similar things from people I've referred and have also seen other customers experience similar issues during my brief pickup/dropoff times. It's disappointing because they are nice people and they do good work, but prospects should know that sometimes it's not worth the trouble. read more

My husband came early today (12/1) pick up our 2 dogs because no one was answering the phone, and before he walked insidr he saw our miniture poodle through the window on the table being groomed. Our dog whimpered and the groomer grabbed him by the ear and pulled his face to the floor and screamed STOP IT in his ear. To the point where my husband could hear her outside say it. Needless to say my husband went into a panic having seen that. The treatment of dogs is unacceptable. When we bring our dogs to be groomed we are trusting they are in good hands and will be treated kindly. This is NOT that place. Dog groomers need to have patience with our pets and be kind. Every dog owner sees their pet as their family. Cleopatras does not treat the dogs like that. We will never bring our dogs here again. I hope you do not either. read more

I really wanted to write a five star review but regret I cannot. My dog Max had a 10 am appointment and I was told in advance he would be there for a few hours. On arrival I was told it could be after 5 pm. He was not ready until 6 pm. Apparently every dog on the schedule arrives in the morning and waits around for most of the day. No walks. The long day is entirely unnecessary. When I dropped him off I was asked a series of questions about what I wanted and notes were taken. I wanted hair on ears and tail trimmed for sanitary reasons. Neither was touched. His ears were not cleaned and his nails were not cut. When I came to get him at 6 pm as requested the groomer was totally frazzled and still working on one dog with at least 2 more to go. I do think the groomer is very skilled but time management issues are really totally out of control and inexcusable. Every other groomer manages a schedule that permits drop off and pick up in a couple hours at most. Even those that also offer day care. And she should not be at her wits end and obviously stressed out more than 8 hours into her work day. At least go to a morning and afternoon schedule. Figure out how many dogs are reasonably taken care of in a day and schedule accordingly. And I was given no cost estimate in the morning and the price of $125.00 was off the top of her head when requested by the helper at the register while she was frantically grooming another dog. Max was soft and clean. If the owner/groomer allowed someone else with scheduling and management skills to take over administrative co trip of her business it would change my opinion entirely. Reading reviews over time it is clear the problems are snowballing. I hate to see a talented female owned business risk it's future for lack of basic scheduling and a predictable complete grooming of all dogs. read more

They did a good job on my little girl, and they were very nice, but I won't go back. Here's why: When I went to pick her up, there was someone's fur coat draped behind the counter. A worker there wears real fur? Does anyone know that they skin animals alive for their fur? It's horrible! Does anyone know that in some cases they freeze them alive for their fur? It's barbaric. It takes about 50 live minks to make a coat. These poor animals suffer so bad before they die. How do you reconcile that? I would love to support this place, but I'm afraid not. read more

I've been taking my dog there on and off for about four years. Each time, they take about 6 hours for her to get done, and as the years have gone by, we have been met with rudeness. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of decent groomers in the area, and in the past, they have generally done a decent job with her. However, this past groomer visit has led to my poor dog getting a skin infection on her back foot. There was an open wound on that foot upon retrieving her that day. She wouldn't stop biting or licking her back leg for over a week. After taking her to the vet twice and getting hit with a $300 vet bill, two types of anti-fungal medication that needs to be administered, in addition to an anti-bacterial shampoo, I am so sick of the lack of customer care that this place provides. I'd also like to say that my dog's feet are always wiped or washed clean on a daily basis, and with the exception of walks around the neighborhood, she is always clean and has never gotten an infection like this until after she was picked up with an open cut. read more

I do agree with the poster who said that they are hard to get a hold of. They don't ever, and I mean ever, answer their phone. In fact, i think I would die from shock if I ever called and the owner just said, Hello .... lol.... however, I have major tolerance for that because I look at it as a plus, not a minus, there are two people there. 2. That's it. The owner and and one other person. They are busy. always. In fact, they are swamped. That's the sign of a great place. If they had time to sit and answer the phone, with 2 people working, in that small space, someone's dog would be highly neglected. I even agree that it gets frustrating. Why would anyone put up with that? I even travel several towns to get there ,along winding roads in all kinds of weather, when its dark. 1. Nothing is hidden from view. You can see every single thing that is going on. I have taken my dog to a place when I first got her, that whisked her off to" the back" and I picked up her "shaking so bad" it took an hour to calm her down. Cleanliness... enough said there. She loves it. Literally. I used to love this salon and so did my dog. One day I was bringing her in to get her groomed I witnessed an obese woman who I know works there punching a dog in the back of the head screaming you stop Jesus f×××ing christ bc the dog was being playful. I immediately got into my vehicle and left. I had called with my concern later that day and the woman I spoke with obviously the big woman I saw in the parking lot answered pretending to be the owner telling me during my complaint that she was the owner and some dogs just act out and need a heavy hand and to mind my own business. I responded by telling her this isn't right and she informed me what I saw was "a load of crap." My question to the owner is is there a policy I signed somewhere stating if my dog is playful you and or your employees are allowed to verbally abuse my animal and or "use a heavy hand"? read more

I love my dog, but she has a knack for getting filthy and smelly. Taking care of her means that frequent groomings are required, and after sampling a variety of groomers in the area for the past 3 years, Cleopetra's is by far and away my favorite. My 45-pound poodle mix came back to me a heavenly smelling black cloud of softness. She never felt so good, and I couldn't stop petting her (which she obviously was very happy about). I don't know what kind of shampoo or conditoner was used, but she actually stayed sweet-smelling for almost a week - despite her usual get-dirty-antics. She was happy, clean, fluffy, and enough about the dog: the husband and wife team that own Cleopetra's are so nice and friendly, the place is small, but clean and welcoming, and very easy to get to, and pricing was beyond reasonable. I was nervous to leave my small little girl because she has anxiety when other dogs are around -- but by the time I picked her up, she was looking Great and very very calm. When my Dog ( Kya) was a puppy i started grooming her. She is a maltese/yorkie, and needed it, and I wanted her to be used to it and not afraid. I had two less than stellar experiences. Not wanting to keep doing that , I asked my dog walker in the neighborhood who she recommended: without hesitation, she said "cleopetra's". Kya is a little over two and pulls at her harness to get into to cleo's after we exit the car. How many dog's want to get into their grooming place that badly? Joy works diligently on her fur to get out the matts, and Jennifer is always wonderful and accomondating. I live a few towns over, but it's worth the extra few minutes by far to have Kya that happy. I have my son, and my pets, both get the best care i can give. Cleopetra's is the best. read more
