Of course, with people living here, you'll have people passing away. The Rio Vista Cemetery was established in 1899. Those early days definitely weren't fun and there are headstones here to show it. The cemetery is in very good condition though I would recommend walking it rather than driving. There lanes are narrow and there's no telling what might happen if a vehicle were to drive over a soft spot. There is little shade but the many headstones appear in very good condition. There is obviously no vandalism here. There was also no litter and several of the plots had flowers. You can see clusters of families - the people living here definitely go back many, many years. In conformity with State Cemetery Laws, a percentage of each lot sale is deposited in an irrevocable trust fund which provides upkeep of each lot forever. Families will never be asked to pay any dues or assessments for upkeep. The cemetery did appear in good condition with a very presentable entrance gate. The headstones and property were well maintained. I noticed the "Lightfoot Cemetery" off to one side that was interesting. Is this a private family cemetery that simply had the Green Acres grow adjacent to it? Still, I appreciated the family names here that predated the Green Acres formation. What should have been a respectful and comforting final farewell was instead an incredibly painful and distressing experience for our entire family. First, the presentation of my sister was completely unacceptable. Her makeup was poorly done and looked terrible, failing to reflect her true appearance at all. To make matters worse, the clothing her husband provided for her was noticeably dirty. The entire presentation looked like a complete rush job with absolutely no sense of care. Seeing her handled with such a lack of basic dignity was devastating to witness. Furthermore, the conduct of the staff during the service was deeply disrespectful. Our family was actually asked to move from the seating area where we were already gathered just to accommodate another family. Forcing a grieving family to relocate during a service is completely inappropriate, thoughtless, and entirely lacking in empathy. They completely failed my sister and our family.

In 1968 the Burleson Cemetery became the Burleson Cemetery, Incorporated and the control and operation was under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in Burleson. From 1989 to July of 2007 the control and operation of the Burleson Memorial Cemetery has been the responsibility of the City of Burleson. As of July 2007, the care and responsibility for operations belongs to Lucas and Blessing Funeral Home. Very well maintained with a variety of headstones that are all in very good condition. The grass is closely mowed and the trees are well pruned, providing some shade. The lanes through the cemetery are in good condition and are mostly quite smooth.
