My two daughters, 3 grandchildren and myself made some fabulous memories this past weekend here. There are 3 pools. A HUGE pool for the little ones that our 4 year olds were able to stand in the entire time, lots of fun fountains, sprayers, slides etc., which was so much fun for us adults as well. A pool with 2 diving boards which includes a high dive, and a really fun rope net that goes from one side to the other to swing from. And a pool with 3 water slides! I'm telling ya, this place ROCKS!!! The staff were all friendly, bathrooms were pretty clean, plenty of lifeguards, concessions and very reasonably priced at $5 per adult and $4 per child. When you get there , there is a pool you'll visibly see but as you walk further down you'll see the very BIG spring/river fed swimming pool. If you bring things it has to be in a cooler, no glass, no styrofoam and there is a no tolerance rule on alcohol they will absolutely kick you out, no refunds. We brought a wagon (seen parents with strollers) and a small cooler for food and things. (Sodas, veggie tray, fruit, snacks) the workers WILL CHECK COOLERS so be weary! If you get there early there will be picnic tables available, you can also bring folding chairs and tables, if you don't bring either they allow quilted or picnic blanket. Please also know the water is EXTREMELY cold, 63 degrees, so if you bring little children I would recommend going to the kitty area that doesn't fully submerge them and that is tolerable. Life guards are everywhere so no worries there. The slide is also not there anymore but for a bit older kids there is a something they can swing off of that you'll pass when coming in. There's really something for all ages. THE WATER IS CLEAN!

I really liked that there was a shallow area for younger kids, while the deeper end (up to about 9 feet) gives older kids and adults plenty of room to swim. There are lots of seating around the pool, making it easy to spend a few hours there with family or friends. The park also has restrooms, a water fountain/refill station, and lifeguards on duty, which made the experience feel safe and well-maintained. If you're planning to visit, I'd recommend arriving earlier in the day since it can get busy. Overall, it's a great free community pool with something for everyone, and I'll definitely be back!

All outdoor public swimming pools run by the city are free to all, open six days a week throughout the summer swimming season, and follow very similar rules and protocol. This review will focus on Roosevelt Swimming Pool and what sets it apart from other city swimming pools. As with most city pools, you are required to sign in at the front desk with name, age group, and gender. These roles help the parks department obtain funding to continue operation of the pools, so it is very important to sign in. Roosevelt Pool is a throwpack to 1950's pool design. Larger than most city pools, Roosevelt also is kidney shaped with several rows of concrete bleachers. This is one of the more popular pools and there are always dozens of people in the water, especially at the shallow end. It can get very crowded in the shallow area on weekends and holidays. The depth ranges from 3ft to about 10ft. There is usually ample room for swimming laps although the pool sides in the deep end can become crowded with teenagers, and we all know how they can be. Although it is a bigger pool, parking is limited, and you may find yourself waiting or walking up a stretch of hill to the entrance. There are male and female changing rooms that double as bathrooms. Roosevelt Pool is feeling its age, and you will want to be careful not to cut yourself on the rough cracks on the walls and floor of the pool. They hurt! The pool has a small waterslide for the kids, but they rarely open it up all season. Not sure why, but they just don't seem to like to. The manager for this pool is not the friendliest, and that attitude is passed along to the lifeguards who can be surly but are generally nice. Fruit and water are allowed in the pool area, but no other food. They have hourly or bi-hourly breaks for pH leveling, and you will spend between 20-30 minutes of time out of the water per break. The concrete can be very hot and shade is limited.

They also offer diving and swimming lessons, as well as a big area to just play in. I went to the Aquatic Center with a large group of teenagers that I was supervising and I was surprised at how assertive the staff were. They must have experience with unruly teenagers dive bombing off of the bleachers, because they were non too friendly while explaining the rules. Fortunately, the kids were so excited to be able to swim that they didn't mind sitting through a 15 -minute lecture. After that was over, the lady reluctantly released our group to get ready and jump in. The dressing rooms are fine, nothing special, but they do have that weird odor that comes from stagnant water sitting on the floor. I desperately attempted not to think about athlete's feet and other fungi while getting ready. They do have those cool machines that dry your swimming suits though, so that is a plus. I was excited to swim laps and dive, while most of the kids just enjoyed the recreational area. The Aquatic Center has pretty limited hours for family swim time (mostly just on weekends from 1 to 5 p.m. but with extended hours in the summer), but if you are interested in swimming laps, you'll have more options. This place isn't really fancy, but it definitely gets the job done. You can visit for only $4 or get a 16 visit punch card for $36 online. That's a great price, better than you will find most anywhere else. So if you want to get a few pounds from your waist but not your wallet, The Aquatic Center is your place.

I love the consistently cool temperature in both pools. Now I am enjoying the 50 meter LC pool outside. Very impressive. We were swimming in their outside pool this weekend with 20+ lanes. You could see all perfectly from the stands and a nice cool breeze blows over the trees while you watch. Plenty of room to spread out. The meet ran a little longer than anticipated, so I would recommend the meet organizer allows more time in their schedule or reduce the number of 10 minute breaks between events. Otherwise, everything else was great. I look forward to my kids swimming there again. Definitely worth the drive to San Antonio for a swim meet.

But I remember going to camp when I was a kid and we got spoiled milk. Like stringy and sour smelling as you poured it. And it was one dish for the entire table. Here it's buffet style. As much as you want. They accommodated for vegetarians. Like on hamburger day they had huge portobello mushrooms to make a shroom burger. Ice cream cups and bombsicles and my favorite Orange dreamsicles in their self serve fridge. Twice a week in the summer they had BBQ down by the river. I think some of the activities you gotta reserve in advance. Like way in advance. For example archery - 1 month in advance. They got zip line and ropes course too that probably require reservations. They're very modest courses. Like zip line is just one line. I think there's a critter museum with some of the local wildlife there (bugs etc). No reservation required for the canoes however. And there are some nice small rapids with natural water slides for young kids to enjoy as well as a free man made slide that looks kinda intense. If you put your feet in the river minnows will come up and nibble on them. Like a fish spa. And of course they have an iconic rope on the tree like all good camps have. Swimming pool is there for those who don't like the Guadalupe river (but river is super clean and you can see to the bottom). Accommodations were surprisingly decent. Clean. No bugs. Shampoo, bar soap and towels provided at least at the Flato lodge which were apartment style with nice little shares balcony with room next door. They have a small cafe on site with soda fountain ($20 tumbler gets you unlimited refills for the year). Little hiking trails. Several resident indoor chill cats who hang out at the various building like Mabee Building, their museum (ask for the key), etc. Mostly multiple church groups booking here at the same time but different facilities. The place is large. Despite being church groups some of the high school campers were dropping the F bomb left and right in the cafeteria. Actually heard some of the staff doing the same. Staff was all polite and are young international folks from various countries like Hungary, Spain, Australia, UK, Mexico and other places. Was a nice getaway and just what the doctor ordered.
