I had emailed them 2 times just to get some info about an older Volvo motor and possibilities regarding it's issue. They never responded so I called them yesterday, and after they found the 2nd email, they answered the questions. So I said please respond to the email. Then today I got a call from a Brandon, while he told me of the possibilities on the phone, he would not put anything in writing, i.e. email response, not even that there are a lack of parts for this motor. I've had good luck dealing with these guys in the past, but I don't know about this Brandon guy and his boss. Finally, upset I did call a 3rd time after being hung up by him twice, and he told me after talking to his boss that they would pass on looking at it, even though they work on Volvo boat motors. Very surprised and disappointed with these guys. Honestly, I hate posting negative reviews and prefer to post 5 stars as I often do for people, but I don't know how anybody can say West Coast Marine Services didn't earn this 1 star! Update: I just got off the phone with Volvo Penta

Dave is the principal owner of the business and recently got into the home generator business as a distributor and installer of Generac products. I signed off on an estimate / contract with him to install Generac's largest residential generator. Other than delivering the home generator unit and sub-contracting the gas and electrical hook-ups, I basically had to step in as the general contractor and work with the gas / electrical guys because he would not return phone calls to them or to me. In fact, I had to contact Generac directly to set the generator up and get the 10 year warranty he was supposed to secure for me as part of his estimate and contract. Even his own staff told me privately that he is over his head and not very good with customer support. I do not recommend Ocean West.

From start to finish, the entire experience was impeccable. They earn the absolute highest marks for efficiency and punctuality. Drop-off took barely five minutes before I was on my way. My service representative was exceptionally courteous and professional, setting a gold standard by sending a video walkthrough detailing the inspection and service recommendations. Every dealership service department should offer this level of transparency! A special shout-out to Caden, who kept me updated throughout the visit and reached out the moment my car was ready--significantly ahead of the estimated completion time. The pricing was very fair, and being able to pay directly with the service rep made the checkout a seamless, one-stop process. To top it all off, I returned to find my Lexus spotless, freshly washed, and thoroughly vacuumed. Outstanding service, great value, and total peace of mind. Toyota of Bellingham has earned a loyal customer!

The entire nav station was a rat's nest of "home made" variety that Matt had to sort out & correct. His work is impeccable! I would recommend Petrel Marine to anyone needing a marine electrician. He was timely, competent, reasonably priced & great to be around as I worked on other areas of the boat. Got a kick out of his UK accent!

He thoroughly tested the batteries and determined that only 1/4 was still functioning within acceptable parameters. He then not only offered me a number of different options for replacement/upgrade of the existing batteries, but also educated me pretty thoroughly on the relative benefits and drawbacks of each option. In addition to replacing the old lead acid batteries to AGMs, he also installed a new 40 amp charger (the old one was 20 amps) to help take advantage of how much faster AGMs can be charged than conventional lead acid marine batteries. He also installed 2 Xantrex LinkPro battery monitors, so that I can keep track of my draw on both banks and avoid discharging my batteries to the point where I won't be able to start my engines (and also won't be severely lessening the useful life of my new batteries by overdraining them). Next I plan to have him install an alarm that will sound in the cabin when the batteries are drained below 50% capacity. I am also having him swap some of the boat's accessories from one battery bank to another so that both banks draw more equally under normal use. We also plan to install an automatic starter for the generator, controlled by the battery monitors, that will activate the gen-set at 60% capacity, charging them back to 85%, so that I can stay out on the water indefinitely without ever having to worry about being stranded by drained batteries, all the while treating my brand-new AGMs in the best possible way to make them last for many years to come. I was thoroughly impressed with Matt's responsiveness (virtually instantaneous, whereas I've waited days and even weeks for other marine professionals to respond to my inquiries). Although this is the busiest time of the year for folks who work on boats, he was able to fit my project in a few days after we first spoke. He was very upfront and accurate about the estimated cost and he came in right on budget, despite running into a few complications along the way. All-in-all I couldn't be more pleased with Matt and Petrel Marine. I recommend him without reservation to anyone looking for help with marine electrical/electronics!
