I had Clearbrook work with my son twice in the past few years-2018 and 2021. The assigned coaches would meet with us each time. We would do applications during the hour meeting. I even helped suggesting places that I knew were hiring, which they said was fine if I applied but just let them know the information. Each time when my son had a job interview, the job coach came along with him, since he has lower functioning autism and hard to understand him speaking sometimes. When he got the jobs each time, the coach would come and assist in his training. Then the visits would be be a little less until he can do the job without assistance. The same procedure was followed with my daughter, with autism spectrum disorder, but when she was hired, the coach didn't have to be at training with her because she caught on faster. I returned to because I was satisfied from each time. But I am not happy with the job coach he is assigned to, She isn't doing her job. She insists that I need to clarify myself as to where do I want her to play a role in this. I told her about all my experiences with Clearbrook and how the coaches handled things. She approached me with that same question more than one time. I get the impression that she doesn't know what she is supposed to do. The online meetings only lasted not more than 15 minutes. She gave me 1 job list email with jobs far away to travel when I specifically gave her location areas of where we'd like to find work at. I had an interview which she set up with a Culvers in Rosemont, 30 minutes away. She never showed up. I had another one at a nearby Culver's in Harwood Heights, only 10 minutes away, but the time and day didn't work out with the coach. She told me her availability and days she has meetings on. I went online to change the time to a time that would fit her schedule. But she can't come once again because she has a meeting. She now says her meetings change every week as opposed to just Wednesdays and Fridays. She made up a script for him to practice interviewing.which is fine. But she wants me to go with him and interview alone and bring the script. She said that we discussed in his staffing, it is in Nick's interest to attend all available interviews to help him practice his interview skills and have the opportunity to network. It is ok if Nick interviews alone, as he has a script that I was able to put together with the information I had that can help him on the interview. If you would like me to add more to the script, please reply to the email where I am requesting the information needed. Nick's goal is to work independently, so he can interview independently at times. We had a staffing with DRS and the coach said she would go to his interviews and trainings. Now she is going against what she said at the DRS staffing. She doesn't understand how to work with people who have an intellectual disability. The things she's doing are appropriate at a regular employment agency. Maybe she'll have to show him how to use LinkedIn as the next step? She's working for the wrong type of job agency. I know it's difficult with job searching right now the way the economy is going, but she needs to know that these clients need extra help. I don't think she knows what she's doing. I am very disappointed. Now I'm stuck taking Nick for this interview. How do I explain that the job coach isn't available today and if I tell him that a coach will be there to help train him if he is going to consider hiring him. Then there's no coach. Another incident that doesn't make sense. Nick had an interview with Burlington Thursday 7/17/25. I got a reminder text in the afternoon of the 16th and at 9 pm received a very disturbing email from them, closing with a rejection: "Hi Nicholas. Due to unforeseen circumstances, your upcoming interview was cancelled and we are therefore no longer able to move you forward in the recruiting process. Please reach out to your recruiter for additional details." I emailed the department with a screenshot copy of this text and still waiting for a response. I've been working with Clearbrook for two years now, and love it. From what I've heard there is a huge turnover rate in the positions higher than mines, but I'm guessing that stems from personal life experiences outside of the job itself. I will never know, but me, myself loves working with Clearbrook, because it's very flexible as a full-time student + it is very rewarding working with adults with disabilities. Rewarding as in learning more about them, and what makes them unique! My client in particular has autism, and I work with him inside of his own home as an SLA (Supported Living Assistant). Working as an SLA, you get a chance to become part of their normal lives, and fully understand about that client in particular, as far as learning fully about them good and bad. Working in this field you have to have patience, and understanding. If you do not then I would advise you to work elsewhere. I enjoy it, and I'm very open to working as a full-time employee with this company once I graduate; even though my degree is something totally different from what opportunities this company offers. read more

I would never ever put a loved one in this nonprofit program. Management of household and day programs are very hard to get a hold of and they do not accommodate at all individual needs. I don't know if it's because of lack of funding but I would not trust that with my loved. There was a few times my loved one had escaped the programs. They do not keep an eye out on them. When we went to visit some day programs a lot of individuals were sitting there reading outdated magazines and weren't engaged in much. It was like a big industrial building with a bunch of people in it just sitting there. I would look around for other places to go to I do not recommend them. They were times were my love one also sat in a dirty diaper for hours and was not changed. My heart broke. read more

I unfortunately cannot give half a star. I was a service coordinator in the Child and Family Connections Department (Early Interventions) for about a year in Downtown. I relocated after a year. As a result, I came to Clearbrook for the same position. I unfortunately had to go through all the trainings, which took 3 months despite the fact that I was a SC for a year with a caseload over 100. Within my 3 months training, I began to noticed how toxic this environment is. I regret for not getting out of there on my own. Where do I begin?! Well...1.) My "trainer," Kayleigh told my supervisor, Kristen, that I "undermined" her. Well, if you're going to tell a family that the reason for their child's speech delay is due to genetics, the ethical thing for me to do is to correct her. I have my masters in clinical mental health, whereas she went to school for accounting. 2.) After a month of training, Kristen switched me to another "trainer," which was fine. However, when I asked for a reason, she told me there was a "personality mismatch." This left me confused. 3.) "Trainers" were never trained to become a trainer. Their title is based on seniority. 4.) Kristin never observed me doing an intake with families. Indeed, she asked once if I'd like to do one with a family, to which I've said in exact words, "I'd like to see you do one more." Somehow, that translated to I'm not competent enough and I don't make initiatives. As a supervisor, you give commands. If you fail to do that and give options instead, please step down. You're not competent enough to be a supervisor, actually. 5.) Towards the end of my training, I approached Kristen because i was just confused with everything. She said she had been too. As a supervisor, it was her job to approach me to clarify any misunderstandings she had with me. Never did that happened. Yet, she told me that I did not know how to communicate with her. 6.) Kristen approached me again and told me she heard a rumor about me. Grow up, Kristen. You're an adult AND a supervisor. If you have the audacity to say the word "rumor," I'd assume you know the definition of it. Obviously not since there was a conversation about it. 7.) I got in "trouble" for taking supplies from the office supplies drawer because supplies were by seniority. What is this? Petty high schoolers?? 8.)I've recently discovered that service coordinators are telling families that medicaids do not cover ABA therapy, and all ABA therapies are paid out of pocket. That is the farthest thing from the truth as I am currently an ABA Therapist at a company that accepts medicaids. As a conclusion, I "didn't make it through my probation" because of reasons 1-8. The director, Jason, sat there and heard these "reasons" given by Kristen as to why I was not a "good fit." As a director, do you have no brain? None of these even make sense. I took a paycut to be a SC at Clearbrook. I have my M.A. in mental health and going to school for behavioral health. Obviously, "Letting me go" isn't the issue. It's the immature "reasons" given to me as to why I wasn't a good fit. I wanted to serve families at a professional environment, not a high school. All in all, the Department of CFC has horrible management - actually no management at all. From the outside, there might be good impressions. in the last week If you have a loved one with developmental disabilities and you need residential care for this person, I would caution you to figure out how much a priority having this loved one's clothes and other personal belongings not disappear. If it's important to you to have your loved one live somewhere where his or her personal belongs stay put and don't go missing constantly, I would advise you to look elsewhere for permanent housing. I have an adult son living at Clearbrook Commons in Rolling Meadows, who's been there less than a year, and almost everything that was moved in with him when he was admitted there is no longer there. Clothes, shoes, socks, personal items that aren't hidden or nailed to the wall are no longer there, by about 90%. I don't know if they are stolen by staff or ambulatory residents, or if they're just getting lost in the wash, or getting mixed up with other residents' belongings, but every time I visit, I notice more things missing. Sometimes, I bring something to his room and it's gone when I visit a week or two later, and I'm always careful to be sure his name is on everything, either written on in indelible market, or a name label sewed in. I have complained to management multiple times, but to no avail. They will say they are sorry, but that's it. As far as I know, they make no effort to have staff search for anything. They are not responsible for lost or stolen items, so they have no incentive to take any measures to prevent loss, nor to recover missing items. I have concluded that it's just not worth it to keep replacing clothes myself, or leaving items that are not clothes anywhere in his room. It's like trying to fill a bottomless hole with buckets of sand. It's very sad that my adult child **could** have nicer and more plentiful clothes and personal belongings than fellow residents who don't have family but are wards of the state, but he doesn't have them because I just can't find a way to make things stay in his room. His care is adequate, sufficient for Clearbrook to keep its license with the state, but its nothing exceptional. If that's all a parent or guardian really cares about, it's acceptable enough for residential care. I don't think there is life-threatening/health-threatening neglect of any of the residents, nor have I seen any evidence of abuse of any residents. If you have higher standards, however, such as feeling it's important for your loved one not to continually lose clothing and other personal belongings, I predict you will be frustrated and disappointed. read more

I worked for Clearbrook and I am a minority. This is an excellent place to work with wonderful staff and excellent services that are offered. I had to leave my position due to personal reasons and cried because of it. That's just how much I loved my supervisor and the clients I serviced. Passing a reading comprehension test should be easy for someone with a degree and reading comprehension is very important in this community and should be used as another tool to base their hiring decisions. This is a great place to work, but you must have the right attitude and spirit. read more

I had written a review of Clearbrook a couple years ago apparently it was deleted because what I said about the place was the truth. So anyone that writes a review of a place that is speaking the truth expect it to be flagged. I applied for a job there and what I found was a complete disregard for the social service field. I had to take a placement test like I was still in college and I have a bachelor's degree so why the reading comprehension and grammar exams. It was when I saw the tests made me think back to when I was in grade school taking the Stanford Achievement/Iowa Basics tests. These people really need to get their hiring practices in order because why do you need to give such an exam when the applicant has an undergrad and/or graduate level degree. Those are tests you give to someone in grade school not a professional job when they have degrees. The fact that they did this makes me think that they need to go back to the drawing board and revamp their hiring process. They need to hire people by their level of education and/or experience. Don't waste your time applying if you have to take a placement test just to work there because if you graduated from college you should have some idea how to read and comprehend with written instructions. And to Susan C. You wonder why your review was placed with the ones that are not recommended since you feel the need to ridicule me over grammar and punctuation please spare yourself the time wasted on your posting.
