Currently I am a junior at Clayton State University and the reason why I originally had chosen this university is due the student classroom size. I am not the type of student who does well in big classes, as I easy become distracted. The classes here probably average around 20-30 with classes that are within your major and the core classes can be larger. For example, my Biology classes typically had about 50-60 students. I took a while off so I could do some travelling and since I started back the school has grown quite a bit. In the past they only offered associates and bachelors. They now have an excellent MBA program thanks to their past School of Business Dean Ernest (Bud) Miller (MBA Harvard Graduate), who helped Clayton get their AACSB accreditation, which only the top business schools in the nation have attained. In the past couple of years they have built a new business building, a new science building, new dormitory and a really nice activity centre with a excellent gym. They just started building another science building. So I am glad that this school is always trying to improve, get new programs and really create a better environment for its students. The faculty is incredible here. So far almost all of my professors have been so wonderful and I have nothing but high respect for them. I love that because this school has smaller classes that as a student I am able to really get to know the professors, visit their offices and ask them questions. They really care and want their students to succeed, at least those who show they are trying. :) Professors here come from all walks of life. Almost all have a PhD. Many of them have worked in their field for a long time and teach on the side. They have worked at major corporations, took on major roles and know what is needed to work in that field. One thing that really amazes me is that so many of these professors have graduated from the most well known and respected schools. Harvard, Yale, UC Berkeley, Emory, University of Chicago, MIT, Cornell, etc... yet, they want to teach here. That says a lot! [ The Pros ] Professors, Tuition cost is low when compared to other top schools in GA. Parking cost is in the fees, it is not extra. The gym here is very nice, you pay for it with your fees, so use it. School library can order almost any book for you from other schools in the system. Small classroom size. School has a good amount of activities. The staff around campus very helpful. Dr. Augustine walked me around the campus to make sure I found a class I was looking for. He is such a nice guy. [ The Cons ] Cafeteria food, could be much healthier. Vending machines sell mostly junk food. Give us better choices. School is not in the best neighbourhood, but that is not their fault. The parking lots are inadequate, so park earlier to make sure you have enough time to get to class, or you will be late. It gets full quick. Some people who visit the library have no respect and do not understand that the "library" is a quite place for those who are studying. I wish people had some class and respected others. My rating of five stars is based on the education provided, value, quality, the professors and the staff. I am not going to take off points due to schools location (it has been here for a long time), a few misguided students, or insignificant things. read more

Don't waste your time going here. Once the funds clear, you can guarantee they won't care. The good teachers are far and few. The dean could care less and honestly is more focused on his staff and not the students, even though we're the ones paying their salaries. You're better off at GSU or another school, even though it's in central Atlanta, i never had the issues I had here and when I reached out to an official for ASSISTANCE, THEY ACTUALLY HELPED. read more

Love clayton state. I made many friends here and the professors here are nice as well. Its not a big school so you will see the same people on daily basis. The classes are difficult but the professors are willing to work with you. Just simply come to their office during office hours. If you want to have fun find someone with a car or go grab one for yourself and travel to the city for the nghtclubs. Also find some really good friends to be with as well. Good friends should always be there no matter what. read more

2013 Grad Full disclosure, I went here for undergrad for five years and I went to Florida State for grad school for three years after. I liked Clayton State better. I really enjoyed it here. The professors are typically pretty awesome. There are some less than stellar acts (in 120 credit hours worth of classes I encountered 3 professors I with teaching styles that I was not a fan of). To put that in context, I was at FSU for 90 credit hours and only really liked about 6 professors. The reason for the high quality of the education you receive is this: the professors care about you. It doesn't matter where you come from you are important to your professors and they want to teach you. The small class rooms make it possible for them to help you if you are struggling or want to be heard. Nearly every professor had time for me and if they did not have time for me they made time for me. When I compare it to the other, larger school I graduated from I can honestly say that the level of focus Clayton State gives to its students is really something special. Diversity is encouraged by the faculty, staff, and the vast majority of the students. The school is very diverse and shines in just how much you learn and at a very affordable price. It is not as large of a school as say GA state, but it is a bit more selective. The English, Nursing, and History departments are awesome (I was a History major so yay!). The combination of small class rooms and accessable professors make this a great place for people getting ready for grad school. Now this is a stellar experience, but there are some areas to improve on. A 5 out of 5 is not perfect, just outstanding, and to be honest I am really just nit-picking. So even though the school is amazing, there is a scarcity of parking issue and there have been known to be minor communication issues with the financial aid office. The financial aid office gripes though are everywhere. Once again, since I have a much larger school to compare it to I am going to tell you: Clayton's financial aid office exceeds the quality of service you find at much larger universities. The organizations on campus are really dope. The Political organizations are really great at helping you see the world from a different view (especially Society of Global Affairs, go join Society of Global Affairs, now, lol), the honors orgs are great (Phi Alpha Theta for the win!), the Bent Tree News paper is always open to new talent (as are Clayton State Internet Radio and Clayton State Television), there are greek life orgs that are really active (especially the NPHC orgs that seem to be throwing events every other day), and Campus Events Council always CRUSHES IT with their events. So, for those of you looking for a fun, safe, and generally awesome experience check out Clayton State University; you'll be glad you did. Also, I just want to say that David Gilbert, Adam Tate, Augustine Ayuk, Carol White, Dennis Miller, Chris Ward, Karen Young, Eric Bridges, and Greg McNamara are awesome! And if you want to skip all of the excess prose check out this quick list. Regarding Financial Aid office: front office staff have incredible patience but are overloaded. Picture taken during "peak season" shows only 2 staff people handling all calls and visitors in person. No wonder wait time is over 2 hours. The University shoild not be so cheap and hire another person to help. read more

Housing is pretty amazing for freshmen. Unlike many traditional housing set ups with shared bedrooms, housing offers private bedrooms in suite style housing. This by far is one of the worst school known to man! The financial aid office lies to the students about disbursements. I have been lied to several times! Not to mention today is first day of class and none of my fees have been paid! I have no money for books because they haven't disbursed any of the students loans! They havent told the students anything! And they don't return emails, phone calls, or voicemails. I tried calling today to speak with some one and they are rerouting the calls to someone who doesn't even work in the financial aid office and they are only taking names and phone numbers to for someone to give you a call back! Yea right like you will really get a call back. They don't want you to drop those classes because then they can't get your loans so they are stalling so that drop add will pass and you will be stuck paying for those classes with no freaking money for books! I'm smarter than that I dropped all classes and sent emails to cancel all loans ASAP. I will applying to Georgia State in the fall semester! DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL! Look at the negative reviews they mostly centered around the financial aid office! Never again! read more

Had two good teachers, 1 alright teacher and atleast 3 terrible teachers. Ran into dissagreements on somethings with two of my teacher who had opinions on certain grades and k was treated as i was not important and it felt as if they do not care about there success in there students. The superiors cared more about offendeding the personal (the other professor) rather than actually addressing actual issues. I feel as if your paying for an education you should be treated as such not treated like another number. With me being a 8 year VETERAN of the Marine Corps i worked really hard to get my GI bill and i will not have it wasted on below adverage professors who expect you to learn everything on your own rather then instruct and point you in the right direction ultimately being a mentor. If it wasnt for my beginners math class professor and my pysch proffessor i would be giving this place a one star. I am going to all online schools for fall semesters then transferring to a better college for spring. read more
