We had a blast, great venue and fantastic beer. There was quite a lot to see and do.

I saw an Instagram announcing the festival which happened to be on a weekend that wasn't going to be too hot. A perfect opportunity. The festival is in a location that is in the middle of several neighborhoods and the city allows parking on the north side of Treat. Even with the large crowds the parking is abundant in the nearby neighborhoods and on Treat. We parked a short less than 5 minute walk away. The festival had a variety of food: Teriyaki Chicken Meal, Beef Teriyaki, Gyoza, Tempura, Sushi, Hot Dogs, Shaved Ice and Desserts. They had games for the kids, tours of the temple and a gift shop. Unfortunately I had an unsettled stomach so I was only able to try the Teriyaki Beef and some Desserts. The beef was tasty, small pieces and cooked well done so a bit toward the drier side. The cookies and brownie were chewy and delicious. I also tried the peanut brittle which was light, buttery and not overly sweet. I'm looking forward to next year so I can try the Tempura and Gyoza along with the Desserts. Fun outdoor event with food that supports a worthy cause. No entrance or parking fees in an easily accessible venue.

It's a great yearly tradition that's been around for 66 years. Their prices are reasonable and they now take cards. It can be pretty hot so wear appropriate clothing and use sunscreen. You can hide out in the building with AC if it's too hot. Love coming here!

Just another reason to love living in Walnut Creek. They typically have this in April and…read moreSeptember. I've got some favorite artists that I've seen year after year and then others who just randomly appear from time to time. This Pacific Fine Arts fair also does shows in other areas, such as Montclair, so if you check out their website you can see where they'll be next. Great way to wile away a Sunday afternoon. In my experience, September seems to have more variety and a larger artist turn out-at least that's what I remember. The April event was a success and I am looking forward to the next one this fall. The one in September is an especially great time to look for holiday gifts-I left last year with some great jewelry for and screen printed T's (all handmade and unique)-except they were gifts for me...ooops! Check it out-if nothing else you'll get to stroll through Walnut Creek and get some fresh air!

It's really nice to see the same people return, especially for those who may collect their art or want multiple pieces. Just today my husband and I bought two new ceramic pieces for our kitchen. In the past we've come home with a cute giraffe who now adorns our living room shelves, and a piece of collage work by a gentleman I didn't see this year. There is a good variety of art, but painting/photographs definitely dominate. If you're in search of jewelry, there are about 5 booths. I love the hand-blown glass and ceramic artists, but simply cannot afford to fill my house with all the art that inspires me. The festival itself is well organized and I appreciate that it closes as few streets as possible (downtown WC traffic is bad enough). The sidewalks get a bit crowded during the middle of the day, but it's to be expected, and most people accept the slower browsing-pace. I like that this group continues to come back to the area from year to year, and look forward to seeing them in town next time.

My wife and I enjoy a night at the theater, but living out in the Clayton Valley area it can be…read morequite a trek to visit the more prominent theaters in the City (pricey tickets, aside) - and as a result we love East Bay community theater. So we were delighted (and surprised) to see an advertisement for a play in Clayton put on by a local theater company - the Clayton Theater Company. Community theater in Clayton? We had to check this out! With a super convenient location, we chose a weeknight evening showing. A short drive to the theater, free diagonal parking literally across the street from Endeavor Hall in Clayton, reasonable ticket prices - this definitely was not a San Francisco or Berkeley theater experience! We were fans before the show even started. This was true community theater. Much work was done by volunteers, people giving their time to foster arts in their community. Talking to some people involved in the production, rehearsals went on for a couple months beforehand, actors and musicians rehearsing hours into the night after working a full day. The play was "Radio Hour", a dramatization of a 1940s radio variety hour production. The play was wonderful, and featured a marvelous blend of drama, singing, dancing and music. The live music really made the show. As a bonus we took away insights and an appreciation for the behind-the-scenes work of early radio productions. Endeavor Hall has constraints as to stage size and we admired the creativity behind the stage setting and production to optimize what they had. Unbeknownst to us, the Clayton Theater Company has been putting on productions since at least 2013, typically at least a couple a year. Past productions have included Arsenic and Old Lace, Urinetown, Rumors, and You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. They won several 2017 Shellie Awards. Community theater fans in the area owe it to themselves to check out the Clayton Theater Company.
