City Of Superior

The tunnel was pretty cool, but the rest of this place was not. I will never be going out of my…read moreway to visit or even drive through the City of Superior again. The road construction was ridiculous. Again, a majority of the roads I drove on seemed fine to me. Instead of doing construction in a manner that has the least disruption to drivers, they just close down streets and highways with no alternative routes. Just driving through Superior, there were multiple full stops in the middle of the highway due to "construction." When the stop was opened up to allow a few cars to pass, I saw no construction in action, so who knows what was really going on. Additionally, the town area did not look inviting at all. Run down buildings, poor street signage, and it just did not look like a place I'd want to go. Very few familiar businesses. Not a place I'll be returning.

Over the past few years, the town has changed a bit, and I wouldn't be surprised if it continues to add to its unique culture in the next few years as well. It used to feel like it was in the middle of nowhere and really far from Phoenix, but with the expansion of all the cities in between (Gold Canyon, Mesa, Phoenix itself, etc.), it's really a manageable drive out here. There are a lot of cool shops and even bars/restaurants here now and it seems like they are focusing a lot on the art scene which pairs well with the desert. I'm excited to see what happens here in the next decade, I just hope a lot of the history and spirit of the town remains constant. There's a lot of cool history in the town and my grandpa used to go exploring on the mountain to the East, which is what keeps us coming back every few years.

Mila was an excellent hostess and did a great job explaining the different wines available at the vineyard as well as telling us all about the vineyard and it's many events. My sister and I are very much looking forward to heading up to Young to the Vineyard, one of these days. The wines we tried we're all excellent. We ended up buying several bottles and taking them home with us. The decor is a little sparse and a little "boring". The tables and chairs are all cute, but the walls are all a sparse white and didn't really have the feeling of a wine tasting room at least not any that I've been to. Perhaps warmer colors on the walls would increase the ambience. They did have some nice artwork on the walls. We will definitely be back!

Ok, I'm going to give this place 5 stars because, technically, it is a cool place that not a lot of…read morepeople know about. It's actually a hydroelectric plant along the Arizona Canal. As we approached the building (you can't go in it), the smell hit us and I thought, oh no, I've made a huge mistake. I think I was just there on a bad day or something, because I didn't see many reviews mention the smell at all. What smell? Raw sewage, very sulphur- and trash-like. I mean, it STUNK. It was strongest at the top overlook, right next to the building. As we went down the staircase to the lower level, the smell began to dissipate and eventually, to my nose, disappeared altogether. On the lower level, we saw the waterfalls. You can walk under/behind two of them and there are "seats" made of stone blocks in front of the third. The water was flowing pretty hard the day we visited, so the seats and all the pavement was wet and there was a slight mist coming off the middle one. The overall place is like a mixture of industrial and environmental architechture. There are metal-looking columns holding up the upper deck, yet the waterfalls look like they were copied from Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, and there are large stones/rocks embedded into the walls everywhere. It sits on the edge of a small park with a decent sized lot and there are hiking paths. We only came for the falls, so I can't speak to the hike, but the area looked fairly nice. I'd like to see it at night as it looks pretty cool in pictures I've seen. If you're looking for something a little different to do or show your visitors from out of town, this is a neat place to go. Hopefully, the smell is a one off, but even if not, hold your breath and go down the stairs..... 13/2026

They offer a tour and a fun store that you can get olive oil, spreads, chocolate bars and tangential products. You can sample the olive oil but there's nothing to dip it in so you'd just be ingesting pure oil; it would have been nice to have a pretzel or bread to dip! I would have wanted everything to be made there but for example the pastas and pasta sauces weren't. And they sell other products from elsewhere. If I'm making a trip here, I'd want to buy things that are primarily made here. They also have several dining options (not sure how they're all related). I was pleased with the food we ordered: huge artichoke calzone (soft dough and good filling) for $22 and fish and chips (excellent fries), as well as a bakery that sells cupcakes, scones, cakes, cookies, brownies as well as gelato. We liked the cookies and scone though the latter didn't have the usual consistency of a scone). It was interesting that their Italian cookies were actually slightly cheaper purchased at the counter vs the already packaged box. They also sell cerreta individually wrapped candies. They have indoor and outdoor seating if you want to eat there. Employees were very friendly. I'm sure it is a more pleasurable experience going when there aren't a lot of crowds, as it is a tourist spot and has overflow parking.
