I thought Clay was rude and incompetent, he spent the entire session bragging about himself and how many books he's read, and didn't fix my problem at all. read more

Touched my wife inappropriately while I was there picking her up. She abruptly moved away and said, "Clay! I told you not to touch me like that!", so apparently he even did it before and now, again after she told him that she didn't like it / it made her uncomfortable. Those are "Me Too" transgressions He may be talented, but his response to making my wife tell him to stop, was, "I touch all my patients that way." With no remorse, no inclination to stop. read more

I did not take this decision to get Rolfed lightly, I thought long and hard, and talked to different Rolfers as well as people who have had the procedure. 10 sessions at a good amount of money to get my body realigned. Clay took his time with me and not only was it about getting my body aligned it readjusted my emotional self. It was painful both physically and spiritually, but at the end it was worth all the pain to feel better. The whole process really did help me with all aspects of my life. If you are thinking about doing this, Clay is your man read more

Clay groped my breast about 15 minutes into the appointment. I was getting bad vibes from even our initial phone call but I had patience for an elder. As the appointment began, he spoke very directly and accurately about self responsibility and the importance of habits in the first ten minutes. He was extremely gruff and intentionally provocative, but this was ok because I agree that habits of using my body are in part why I am in pain. However, I note that this conversation did provoke tears in me as I have been in constant pain for a week and he was being very intense (staring and leaning forward) and intentionally provocative (saying things like "you have had so much work. Why are you in pain?". When we moved to the looking in the mirror evaluation, and he started to touch me, he touched my body in ways that set off my alarm bells. He was standing unnecessarily close and I could tell that part of his touch was not only instructive. He had me pull up my shirt to expose my belly and pull down my pants a bit to expose my hip bones. I could see how this activity could be instructive (he was having me look in the mirror and studying asymmetry) but there was an unmistakable vibe that something was off. I am an Alexander teacher myself and touch people for a living so I do have a lot of experience in this matter. I have worked with at least 30 body workers in my life, including looking with them in a mirror and studying my body's asymmetries in my underwear with them touching me instructively, with no problems. I decided to wait just a little longer and see what happened. Then he had me twist from side to side, and suddenly he completely unnecessarily put his hand directly on top of my breast in the guise of guiding my body movement. Unlike the uncomfortable touching I had already experienced that wasn't clearly violating, this was unmistakably a violation. No professional should ever touch someone that way. If it was somehow important to touch that area, explicit consent would be asked and given and it would never be in the non-therapeutic cupping sort of sudden grab that he did. He camouflaged and normalized the grope; it happened in the middle of him speaking. I stepped away from him and said, I don't like how you touched me. He said, ok, you touch your own body then. But by then I had had way too many red flags. I said I'm leaving. He said ok and silently led me to the exit. I do not doubt that Clay has great experience and valuable knowledge and that he has helped many people. But this is completely unacceptable. I hope he can be accountable for his actions and heal. I made a police report. read more

Clay is a miracle worker and in one appointment took me from hardly being able to get to my car to drive over there - to being able to move freely again. He is a bit gruff, but who cares when his extensive knowledge of muscles, bones and body movement can relieve that kind of pain. read more

I was skeptical, but I'm sold. I've had numerous minor (IMHO) injuries from athletics to work & still function at a high level, but my wife highly encouraged (forced) me to make an appointment, so I did. The experience Clay has outside of rolfing is evident as he intakes you as a paitient. Some uncomfortable questions, but always professional & helpful so he can see you as total person. The first session made be feel better than I have in years, but I figured he'd want to see me weekly to keep me feeling that way & to keep the money flowing. The truth is, he taught me some exercises to keep things in place & told me I'd probably need to see him in 3 weeks, but wait to see how I felt. I have been back a couple times to be tweaked, but the imbalances he identified & the exercises he gave me have allowed me to perform better atheltically & feel better day to day than I have in a long time. If you aren't comfortable with pets, you probably won't be comfortable with Clay, but I enjoy having Chewy (friendly lap dog) "supervise" my appointments :) Thank you Clay, you are a life changer! read more

If your committed to taking on the responsibility of your own body then he will do anything to help you and give you the tools you need to be pain free. I have had two Flat foot reconstructive surgeries on the last year and I was also diagnosed with mild scoliosis at a very young age. Combined, these two issues have caused me considerable pain, so when a family member told me about Rolfing I thought I would look into what this alternative medicine might offer. As this individual specializes in pain management I was even more optimistic. I could not find a listing for him on the official Rolfing.org website as being a verified practitioner. However, after phoning him to schedule a consultation he would not provide me with clear information about the costs. When I reached his office, a residence converted for an office, there was a sign requesting that patients remove their shoes. Since I am required to wear insoles in my shoes due to my past surgery I found this to be an Ill-conceived policy, but tried to remain open-minded and accomodating. The patient before me could be heard obviously experiencing a lot of pain, she even said it outloud " this is the most pain I've ever felt". Next came my turn, I provided my medical records from my neurologist, which he reviewed and asked me why I was there if they thought that my condition was only mild. The neurologist had found that i ha internal narrowing of my vertebre and that my reflexes in my legs were stronger than normal. I explained to him that my spine has been increasingly becoming more painful after my feet had been operated on and that I was trying to be pre-emptive. That's when we entered the twighlight zone.....he began asking me about my exercise regimin ( I'm 125 lbs at age 30, something I have struggled with for years). Even though i had recently begun working out again, i said i dont really exercise very much. He basically tried to convince me that I had been tricked into having my previous surgery and that exercise would solve my problem. At another point he asked me if i was into computers (which to him seemed obvious since I wore glasses and was thin). I had not intended to be profiled and judged prior to pain THERAPY. Next he began to tell me that I suffered from depression and that I should find a psychiatrist! I responded that I have been seeing one, to which he said " maybe you should find a better one". Spare your self from this monster, he is obviously not practicing REAL medicine for a very good reason. read more

Rolfing, for Clay Cox, provided his own salvation after a serious accident 45+ years ago. Seriously injured and unable to find someone to help, he worked with a Rolfer who sold him on the foundations of his therapies and helped him repair his own body. He left CA. to work with Ida Rolf and has never looked back. Practicing both in the South and Southwest he has refined his work over time in pain management and manual medicine and is sought out by many returning clients (thus, it is often hard to get in to see him). He works with various modalities and therapies that foster healing. New patients will find him thorough, direct and caring and will leave with an understanding of what he believes is the underlying problem as determined by a thorough examination and how it needs to be handled both by the therapist and/or the patient. Active engagement defines his approach to structure and healing. Do the work as recommended and you won't be sorry. If you find yourself 'stuck' and unable to grasp a path forward, he will open up doors in your own awareness that will allow you, with his help, to move forward in your own healing process. read more

I went to my first rolfing appointment on the referral of a friend that said Clay Cox works miracles. By the time I left, I felt FANTASTIC. I agree with an earlier reviewer, Clay is NOT a sugar-coating kind of guy, which I appreciate. AND...for the other reviewer that seems not to know how to search the internet, here's a link to a website that lists certified rolfers: http://www.rolf.org/find/byLocation?city=Tucson&state=AZ&country=USA&name= I had a great experience and will definitely go back! read more
