(Our destination was only 5min away ) Our Wedding ended earlier then expected so I was able to call Mel to see if he was able to arrive early & he did ! Dealing with, who I believe is running the place, Mel, I had a very pleasant experience. He was very nice for the most part until I complained about their driver - Pierre. He insisted Pierre was the top of the line driver and would never do anything to breach a contract.... It's a little offensive to be called a "liar" indirectly that way. Pierre had previous arrangements to be somewhere after my wedding - he had his nephew's graduation to get to. My contract was from 2 pm - 6:30 pm and the driver was out of my sight by 6:15 pm. He was on his way out as soon as my husband and I got out of the car at the reception site. My photographer had to stop him and said we were allowed to take photos by the car, seeing as how we had paid for the time. The whole time we were there, the kept tapping his watch which I think is incredibly rude, it's not like we were going over our contracted time any way. He would not move his car 10 ft into the shade so we could take photos because the sun was too bright. Our wedding was at The Neighborhood Church and the reception was at the Portofino Hotel. When I brought my concerns about Pierre leaving earlier than expected from the reception site, he had this to say to me, "The car was there at the Neighborhood church for at least an hour or more after your ceremony ended, more than ample time to take as many photos as you would have liked with the car, In fact a much nicer background at the church than in the parking lot of the Portofino Banquet Hall for a quick 10 minutes or so of pictures." We discussed this via email which is why I have a direct quote. - I do not need a vendor telling me how or where I should have spent my time taking photos with the car and excusing his driver for leaving early. We also requested a customized "Just Married Sign" which was only on while it was parked at the Neighborhood Church. We have no photos of that sign on the car, or us in the car with that sign. The driver took it off as soon as he started driving. He also handed a tube to my husband with no explanation and after some back and fourth with Mel we were able to figure out what it was. We could have opened it right then and there, but when it's your wedding day, who has the time to open tubes to investigate? And we left for our honeymoon the next morning. It would have been a lot easier if the driver would have just told us what it was. In the end I was refunded for a half hour because of the driver's early departure, but it certainly does not make up for the photo opportunities we missed out on, his driver tapping his watch, or failing to cooperate in moving his car 10 ft while "on the clock." Mel was a very nice man, but I was offended at the thought that he defended his driver and made me feel like a liar. Overall, they were on time, the driver was nice until 6:30 pm started rolling around the corner, we got our sign - be it with no explanation, the sign was on during the ceremony but we never saw it, drove with it on or got to take photos with it. I think all of this could have been avoided with better communication and hiring someone who didn't have somewhere else to be - literally. I've never hired a driver for such a big occasion like this, so I don't know if this behavior is common but I would hope not. read more
