I…read morewanted to have my hair left a little longer, and the back cleaned up from the cow licks, and then have my beard trimmed and the lines around the edges and neck cleaned up. The gentleman seemed nice enough, but didn't communicate very well - I tend to be more quiet myself but he didn't really interact all too much while cutting my hair. Subsequently, my mustache got trimmed too much, which means it had to be followed through. Like I said, not a lot of communication about what he was thinking before taking action. Overall, the haircut was good, but fell short of my expectations as a barbershop. The location is clean and well lit, and there is streetside parking but no lot. My recommendation is that it's a good spot for a regular hair cut, but if you want "the works" and professional communication, seek elsewhere.

Four generations of the Russo family -- Joseph (who's manned his chair at Plaza Barber Shop for 63 years!), Joseph's son Gerry, Joseph's daughter Rosemary, and Joseph's grandson Albert -- provide quality haircuts at a very reasonable price ($20 for a basic razor/scissor cut). The Russos have fostered a very casual and friendly environment in the shop as well as a strong relationship with their customers and the community at large. The family has been very involved with local community service, religious organizations, and youth athletics organizations throughout the years -- so expect to witness Gerry holding court from his barbershop chair and sharing his opinion on local politics and community affairs while trimming the hair of some of Morristown's most esteemed citizens (and me). I'll admit that I was reluctant to return to Plaza Barber Shop for a haircut during the COVID-19 pandemic out of an overabundance of caution. Since re-opening last June, Gerry, Albert, and Rosemary have done a great job adopting new policies and procedures to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 to their customers including sanitizing all furniture and equipment between customers, requiring all customers to call ahead for an appointment, making sure each customer completes a contact survey and sanitizes their hands upon arrival, installing floor-to-ceiling plastic sheets between each station, and requiring all employees and customers to wear facemasks while they're in the shop. These actions -- along with receiving my second COVID-19 vaccination -- made me feel comfortable enough to venture back into Plaza Barber Shop after a year of haircuts performed by my wife -- lifting a metaphorical and actual weight off my shoulders. Thanks for all you've done for the community and your customers!

If you ever saw the TV Show Seinfeld, you may remember the episode with the Soup Nazi... that's Ghani. He cuts a mean head of hair but he doesn't tolerate B.S. A lot of people interpret this as bad customer service, or bad business that he doesn't give you with warm gushy feeling. I view this as a good thing good thing because he is always busy with a long wait, so it weeds out the people that just aren't his customers. If anything he does care about customer service and his reputation. He tried to grow bigger by adding another chair and another barber. But let him go... he said it was too hard to find someone as consistent as him and it was hurting his reputation. From time to time his wife will fill in for him. Ghani was closed for month on to go on vacation. I went to Sports Clips, I was done in 10 minutes. The haircut was fine but a week and a half later, I felt like I needed to get another haircut as it just didn't grow out too well. Ghani takes his time. 30 minutes when he's busy, Closer to 40 minutes when there's no one else is on line. He's meticulous. He's gets obsessed with perfection. As a result my haircuts go 5 weeks. He talks about weird stuff sometimes, but like my dad, he grew up in a communist country... so I kinda understand him and his worldview. Once again not for everyone. My suggestion: If you want a good haircut, without the filler of the corporate places, and the upsell of rebranded and overpriced hair product that you can find in any general merchandise store, go to Ghani. Tips: Ghani opens at 9:00am on most days but is usually running 15 minutes late. Get there at 8:55am, filter through your email, and you'll be the first in line and in the chair by 9:15ish. If there is someone in the chair, and two people waiting, it may be more than an hour wait... bring something you can work on, or headphones to catch up on Netflix. No WiFi, but you can connect to Optimum WiFi if you have an account.
