One of my favorite things about visiting Colonial Beach in the summer is treating myself to…read moreservices at Colonial Beach Massage. I usually purchase one of their summer three-packs when I'm in town because it's such a relaxing part of my trips now. The spa is in such a perfect location -- within walking distance to the beach and the restuarants  -- which makes the whole experience feel like a true coastal getaway. After spending time near the water, going in for a massage or spa treatment is the perfect way for me to unwind. The atmosphere inside is peaceful, beautiful, and calming the moment you walk through the door. Everyone there is always welcoming and professional, and the spa itself has really become such a special place in Colonial Beach. You can tell they truly care about their clients and the experience they provide. I always leave feeling refreshed, relaxed, and already looking forward to my next visit.

Massage with 'retreat' (salt therapy) scheduled for 2:30pm. Was told to arrive at 2:15pm to start…read morepaperwork, then it would be 30 minutes of salt therapy, and a 1 hour massage. At 2:15pm, therapist called to tell us that she was running behind, and asked if we could be there at 3pm. Well, maybe if you would have called at 2pm, before I left my house , and was just about to arrive in your parking lot. I'll just wait. 3pm rolls around, still not ready. We finally get back to start salt therapy at 3:39pm! At 3:59pm, just 20 minutes later, she tells us that it's time for our massage. She gives us 10 minutes to get on the tables, which was entirely too long, considering we were already nude during the salt therapy. At 10 after 4pm, our couples Swedish massage finally begins. During the massage, the therapist initiates conversation numerous times (which I hate), but she was nice, so I had trouble cutting her off. Next thing you know, we're in full conversation, which entails her telling us a lot of personal information, like how her ex-husband died of Lou Gehrig's Disease, her boyfriend is Native American, has cirrhosis of the liver and is a pain in her """. She kept stopping the touch, in which I gathered that she was using her hands to tell her stories, instead of focusing on her techniques. Her co-worker, who we gathered was her niece, was telling us that her baby died of SIDS...yeah, just the conversation that you want during a relaxing, Valentines Day couples massage. When the massage, aka as rubbing oil on us (because absolutely NO techniques were used), was done at exactly 4:50pm, in which she abruptly stopped, I wasn't even terribly upset that we paid for 30 minutes of salt therapy and a 1 hour massage, but received instead, a 1 hour wait, 20 minutes of salt therapy and 40 minutes of massage. I watched the time intently, because I had a feeling that we'd be shortchanged, just as we were. A typical Swedish massage should allow just 5 minutes to dress, and 5 minutes to undress...making it a 50 minute massage. The salt therapy should have been a full 30 minutes. Yeah, NEVER again. My husband was extremely disappointed, and I continuously told him that this is NOT the norm. I'm a skilled, educated, (and former) Licensed Massage Therapist. I KNOW good massage. It's difficult when you clearly know what they should/shouldn't be doing. Sorry, but I cannot recommend this business, which is extremely unprofessional from start to finish. Even with a Groupon, it was a complete waste of time and money.
