My search began in Canada, on the internet, for somewhere in the UK that could put together a custom Celtic wedding band. You see, I had my wedding, engagement and anniversary rings stolen from me when we had a real-estate open house in December of 2013. This was all devastating to me! Almost immediately, I came across Clarksons on the web. As I was booking accommodations to visit Edinburgh, my first point of contact was the proprietor of a beachside residence we booked in Musselburgh, named Alistar. He helped connect me to Patrick at Clarksons and we never looked back. Patrick was my cyber-host to the store, and we connected via email and Skype several times leading up to my visit. Patrick helped me connect to the talented staff at Clarksons who designed, and produced the perfect ring. It was a rose gold band, with palladium outer bands, embedded with my family's birthstones. Patrick made several helpful suggestions from stone selection, to band width to cost savings which I truly appreciated. The over-the-top component to this adventure, was that Patrick helped me witness this artistry, by sending me pictures during the phases of the ring's production, so I now have a true history of this heirloom. Once we arrived, on a gloomy Saturday afternoon, we were met by Patrick, the owner and the owner's grandson, and we felt like celebrities, met with hugs and handshakes. We saw the ring, and my husband who had been on the sidelines to the adventure, finally was welcomed into the conversation by seeing the ring first hand and getting to witness me trying it on. The ring came full circle in my life, by capturing my immediate family's history with the birthstones, capturing my past history of having family who had worked in the copper mines in Cornwall (copper is how rose gold is coloured) and Celtic roots to my daughter who had just completed a year of study at the university in the UK, a few miles away from where my grandmother grew up. The folks at Clarksons went way above and beyond for us, and we are grateful for their attention to detail, tracking of the production of the jewellery, quality of the final product and service that went from sea to sea. read more

Some 33 years ago my then girlfriend and I visited Clarksons for an Engagement Ring, we didn't have a fortune to spend and were handled by the then Father of the current owner. We were treated as if we were an important client and came away with a lovely unusual designer ring. Since then we've had a wedding band, an eternity ring and a ring to celebrate 30 years of marriage, all made by them to fit to the engagement ring, with the end result giving the impression that my wife is wearing just one ring, fantastic. My wife will be 60 this year and I commissioned Clarksons to make a necklace pendant and earrings to match the original engagement ring, the result looks truly amazing. When I had the eternity ring made, Keith Clarkson, who is the son of the Gentleman we saw 33 years ago, recognised the engagement ring immediately and named the designer, that is what you call knowing your business and I would wager that there is not another Jeweller in Edinburgh who could claim such personal knowledge of their product. My experience in dealing with Mr Clarkson senior and Keith over 33 years has been a true pleasure, and it is wonderful to see a family business being run in such a professional and courteous manner, and as an owner of a successful business myself, I appreciate the style and class of Clarksons. I was moved to write this review after reading the very negative one, and wondered who this woman was talking about, she must have either gone into a different shop, or be one of those "I will write a bad review" people who seem to do it just for the fun of it, I have suffered a similar experience, which dragged my 5 star rating totally unfairly down. If anyone has a complaint, justified or otherwise, they should address it direct in person to the owner, not write some ridiculous review. What a truly wonderful experience entering this establishment and such incredible service. My husband and I had converted our civil partnership to a marriage a while back and although we had rings for the civil partnership we wanted matching celtic designed rings to celebrate the conversion to a marriage. Clarksons was recommended to us by another jewellers in the Royal Mile and after just a short while we understood why. Mr Clarkson was spent a lot of time and patience helping us with our selection and at no time was anything thrusted upon us. The resulting rings are superb and far nicer than we had expected. It was obvious that much time and care had been taken in the making of the rings. It was so good to go into a shop and to be treated with respect, kindness, patience and given all the help we needed. Whilst there the door bell went twice and each occasion he showed the ladies who came in exactly the same service. It is so nice to go into an establishment and to be treated as if you are special. Needless to say I would recommend Clarksons to anyone who wants superior service and jewellery. We will be moving to Edinburgh within the year and look forward to returning to Clarksons. read more

I was prompted to write this review after reading one very negative one below, which I find really hard to believe. We visited Clarksons a couple of years ago. My fiancé was interested in buying a Celtic style wedding band, and as we were holidaying in Scotland from Australia, we decided to try Clarksons after some internet research. The shop itself is a relatively small space with a couple of sections to browse in. A very modern fit out, but also cosy and intimate. The salesman we dealt with couldn't have been more helpful and showed us several examples, and told us a couple of funny stories about some of the rings. My fiancé asked for a couple of amendments to a sample ring he was shown and we placed our order. An older gentleman appeared a little later and we discussed the various options and insurance implications around transporting the ring to Australia, as it would not be ready until after we had gone. He was very knowledgeable and helpful and came up with very satisfactory solution. All in all, it was a fantastic experience and one we often comment on. We plan to be back in Edinburgh soon and hope to revisit Clarksons - they were such a delightful milestone on our wedding journey. read more

We came to Edinburgh to look for wedding rings, we wanted something unique, something that we knew would be subtle and yet eye catching. We found the perfect rings whilst working with Clarksons. Based upon their years of experience we were able to create our own design based on one of theirs and we trusted that they would be exactly what we wanted. We were absolutely right to trust them. A month later our rings arrived and all of our hopes were realised. Our rings are beautifully crafted, expertly engraved and exactly how we imagined they would be. Ian, Keith and Patrick were the most professional gentlemen we have had the pleasure of working with. They dealt with us with utmost care and made it very easy for us to trust that our wedding rings would be nothing short of perfect. Myself and my wife and now younger members of the family love this fantastic little shop. I bought my wedding ring here nearly twenty years ago and it has been both adjusted and cleaned brilliantly by the shop. I bought my wife's eternity ring here and again it has been cleaned for free by the shop and is a beautiful ring. We have recently purchased two bracelets for family birthdays, and even though not the most expensive items in the shop we were treated fantastically well. Our niece had to have the bracelet adjusted and again this was done for free and she was made to feel very welcome. I may not be able to afford some of the beautiful expensive items in the shop but I will always do my utmost to buy what I can afford as I am always made welcome in the shop and I truly believe that little family run quality businesses should be here to stay. Me and my husband bought our wedding rings and engagement ring here. We were very pleased with the lovely service. We had a pearl from an original ring that my husband proposed with in Vietnam. This ring did not last very long but we kept hold of the pearl when we returned to Edinburgh. We wanted this peal incorporated into a new ring. After going round countless jewellery shops asking if this could be done, we encountered a lot of negativity and snootiness. Clarksons however were very friendly and positive from the very start. They have very skilled ring designers who could make this possible with no problems what so ever. The end result was amazing! I always have people commenting on how lovely and unique my engagement ring is and we could not be happier. We have recommended this business to all of our friends. We shall be returning sometime in the the future for an eternity ring. read more

I love this place, and really glad I found it. The staff are very friendly, informed, helpful and knowledgeable, and the jewellery is stunning. If you appreciate beautiful gemstones, you'll like this place. We had a pendant made up here four years ago, and I've just returned from picking up a second opal that they've made into a pendant for us. The result was, like the first one, exactly what we wanted; a simple but elegant pendant for a special occasion. And the price was very reasonable for the amount of work involved. We have another special celebration coming up next year, and I'll be returning here to have some more work done. I have been purchasing jewellery on a regular basis over the last 25 years from Clarksons. During this time I have always found the family, because it is truly a family business, to be most helpful and generous with their time in giving their advices as to the items I should consider. The after care service is also first class as pieces are re-sized as and when necessary with the relative item being cleaned and polished before returning to me. All in all, this is a caring "one off" business which I cannot recommend highly enough, if you are looking for bespoke jewellery or indeed wish to commission a specific item. It is not a volume business with the benefit that most items are really exclusive and as such can be regarded as unique "fashion statements". read more

We have had a few happy occasions to visit Clarksons' jewelers in Edinburgh in recent times, with my daughter's engagement and marriage, my sons engagement and my own birthday. On each occasion we were made to feel special and all of our requirements were fulfilled and even exceeded. On each occasion we gave Keith our brief and our budget and we were ultimately delighted with the results. The advice given and craftsmanship put into the making of our rings and earrings was excellent. We loved the fact that the pieces are hand crafted by Clarksons on site and each piece is truly unique. My husband and I bought our wedding bands here, on recommendation from a friend who has several rings from them. We dealt with one of the owners - I think it was the son (so Clarkson Jr?) - he was lovely and made us feel very relaxed talking us through our choices, not making us feel at all embarrassed that we were looking for something quite simple and not too costly. We visited again to have our rings adjusted when I lost weight after our first baby. They welcome you back to have it cleaned/polished too. I would definitely go back if I was looking for something bespoke in the future having seen a number of their designs since - watching them with interest on Facebook. read more

My wife and I have been long standing customers of Clarksons both Junior and senior. Thus far they have created a wedding ring, eternity ring, earrings and we are due to pick up a necklace that will match the earrings. I am an absolute tightwad and hate parting with the cash but sometimes in life you get what you pay for. Jewellery is one of the luxuries that you might have to pay a little more for and for that you get fine quality, service and the whole process is individual to your wants and needs. I have no doubt that when my girls grow up they will want their jewellery from Clarkson. I could not recommend this family run business highly enough. read more

I used these guys when looking for an engagement ring for my fiancé. Having bought a significant piece of jewellery before, I was not sure what to expect and so I did a fair amount of shopping around. The entire customer experience was fantastic and a step ahead of everywhere else I went. Clarkson's had a wide range of designs in the shop but were very happy to make entirely bespoke pieces meaning that I ended up with a truly unique ring. Keith gave great advice on all matters from design to maintenance and was extremely charming to my fiancé when she came to get the ring re-sized. I visited Clarksons with a view to having two diamond rings remodelled into a single more contemporary design. A ring in stock soon caught my eye and a discussion with Keith and Patrick took place as to how we could modify this design to suit my stones. They suggested creating some computer generated images and thereafter a wax model. They kept me informed at every stage of the process and I couldn't be more delighted with the end product, I wear it every day. This was not the first piece I have had designed and bought from Clarksons and it most certainly will not be the last. I cannot recommend them highly enough! read more
