Completed the dental hygiene program run by the most toxic instructor who has no empathy for students' mental health. With instructors from this program telling me that they did not believe in me, it was difficult to power through the intense workload while having no support system. This school is also in a relatively dangerous area, with shootings and stabbings occurring just about every week. To add onto that, the campus security avoid actually dealing with criminal acts on campus and seem to only care about handing out parking tickets while harassing innocent students. read more

I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews?? Clark is one of the best community colleges I've seen. As a more left leaning person I will say, it's interesting to see all the conservatives on here saying it's a liberally focused school, because I've had plenty of business and economics professors with moderate/right leaning views. It's been nice to have a well rounded, affordable college experience with the right counseling for a transfer degree. Only recommendation: sign up for classes as early as possible so you don't get wait listed! read more

Racist, trash school. My husband applied for a full time faculty position and told me he has never been treated so cold and felt so disrespected in an interview before. He is very much overqualified for this position and was hesitant to apply since it is a community college and a community college that is ranked as one of the very worst in the state of Washington. He was taken by surprise how arrogant, robot-like, and smug the faculty were as if he were wasting their time from the start of the interview and I suspect its because he is a racial minority and speaks English as second language although very fluently. I can see why this school is one of the worst ranked colleges in the state if this is how they treat people merely in an interview and why so many previous instructors, professors, and students complain about this institution. read more

I have been student here since 2004. I know, LONG time. I started as a part time student with a goal of AA in Business. Then I switched to being a full time student and earned AA in Culinary Arts. Now I am back to part time and about to finish my Business degree. This school has been wonderful to me and I cannot imagine better community college. They offer many classes online or in hybrid style (face to face class only few times a week and the rest is done online). Their tutoring is free and well done. Library is large and staff there is very helpful. The cafeteria is great value, offering food made by culinary students. There is also a bakery with fresh items and delicious chocolates all made on premises by students. If you have more time you can visit the restaurant run by culinary management students. The campus is beautiful and well kept. Go Penguins! read more

This place is great! It's an expansive, green, wide-open space kind of school. The teachers seem to be attentive and brought in from areas of industry, as opposed to academia. I am going here starting a second degree in Computer Science. The classes are relatively small -- compared to HUGE, impersonal lecture halls that happened at my last college. So far, I really enjoy it. Tuition is reasonable! I paid a similar price at a California State University. The only downside is parking, apparently. I arrive early, at 9am, but if you get there at 11am-1pm, apparently it is really hard to find parking. Also... peoples' cars supposedly get stolen on a regular basis -- so lock your car and don't leave valuables in plain sight! read more

Good deal for running start if you want some nearly free kung fu, Taekwondo, Jujitsu, or a added dirt cheap gym membership for your 1-credit class. Sometimes they offer graphic communications classes and video but not always; hey it's retarded Anime Vancouver what do you expect? Staff are paranoid control freaks though. I was merely petitioning for International club President because of utter past failures to resurrect the club but the Internatiinal club didn't like that because she thought she could control the club through a stipulation via verbal agreement to involve her with all Emails to the club but really she was profiling banning me from the Area which was illigal; when I refused saying I'm going to the "Interrim Dean" she filed civil and criminal charges in court a few days later. Meanwhile, the acting dean (previous Dean had just left) Ph.D shrink mediator tried to furnish verbal and written confessions out of me for evidence...lol...as if!...didn't fall for that. So the Acting dean made "Procedural errors" using security to ban me from campus until I furnished a written confession that I created a DBZ animated video super-imposing the International club manager's face and battling her as Goku while she was a pink scarfed giant fat Namek evil I had Ka-maa-ha-ma-ha blasted into oblivion in defense of others after she had killed Andriod 16 VO from freeza cruel one liners. To make a longer story short both courts had dismissed the cases without me having to even defend my self while the judge rolled her eyes at CC staffers outragious bogus claim rationalizing replying "IDK your honor...he must of used clark College's PC's to construct the video because he doesn't have electricty and is living the the forest in a tent!"..wow! Well I have not had classes here yet but I have already begun attending student clubs and I've completed my paperwork. The process is VERY organized, it was weird for a college to be so organized actually. Each department seems to be very well experienced. I have never left a department where someone did not know the answer to my question in great detail. I moved from Virginia so I thought this would be a nightmare but it was not and was very very organized for the most part. This school has A LOT of school spirit. My last community college (that you'll find in my reviews) was basically in a office building. This school has a mascot, sports teams and A LOT of social clubs. Clubs for everything. I enjoy the language/cultural clubs like Spanish Club, French Club, Japanese Club, Pacific Islander Club, Arabic Club.. there are clubs for Engineering, Nursing, Anime, Gaming, Photography, Veterans.. just so many to list. There is a department to assist with homework, advising, touring.. There are many options for food including food carts and other restaurants in the facility but I've never tried them. Many events go on such as Financial Aid nights, entire weeks dedicated to cultural fairs and awareness, many abroad opportunities, many workshops and seminars.. The school has wifi, I haven't tried that either, a Japanese Garden, great art exhibits, I mean really this is all mind blowing when all I knew before was an office space. I hope my actual education here is just as great as all the other opportunities here are. read more

Absolutely trash. If you are a veteran, or a GI Bill user DO NOT attend. They will just tell you halfway through the quarter you didn't do something that you couldn't have possibly known about, incorrectly and drop you with penalty from classes. Also, the school will take your emergency grant money (meant for student need, like bills or rent) from you without telling you and apply it to your "overdue tuition" even if you don't have an outstanding balance. The communication at this school sucks and half of the phone numbers work. I wish I hadn't wasted the last 6 months of my life on this mediocre curriculum and had actually gone somewhere worth my time and my GI Bill benefits. I will not be returning for a a 3rd quarter. Edit: I forgot to add that I am literally an honors student, and in the national honor society. I have a 4.0GPA and I literally cant get any help from anyone at this school. One of my classes this quarter I am now almost failing because the professor refuses to answer the entire classes emails and canvas messages about errors he has made in the modules and quizzes. It has been 2 weeks, and my class's grades are tanking because this professor won't engage with us. They do not care about students at this school. They only want your money. read more

You have to be "seeking" one of Clark's associate degrees to be eligible for financial aid. That's fine in theory, however, their degree programs are completely arbitrary and don't even match the freshman/sophomore course requirements for the corresponding bachelor's degrees for WASHINGTON STATE universities. If you thought that you could get your lower levels done here to save money before transferring to an in-state university, think again! They don't care about preparing students for state university programs. They will make you take dozens of credits worth of courses that won't transfer and/or fulfill your degree requirements at university. They will refuse to let you take classes that are REQUIRED for your degree program at university to be in junior standing, even though they offer them! And if you register anyway, they will just cancel your financial aid and make you pay out-of-pocket. So much for those savings! Some of the instructors are okay, but I've also had some of the most disrespectful interactions of my life with instructors here. What they are best at is making sure you know they only see you as an ATM. I only have one quarter left here before I transfer and I'm so glad. I honestly regret not going to PCC instead of Clark - I feel like they would have prepared me better for a WASHINGTON university and I would have gotten a better education for my money. I would recommend going literally anywhere else - even Pierce - over Clark if you intend to transfer to UW, WSU, WWU, or any other university (I can't imagine OOS is much better). read more

I've been to 4 colleges, and Clark is the best and worst. I've been going there for about 3 years, and have an AAS in Bakery management (read professional baking). Brief: The education and cost is good. The registration, parking, advising, and pretty much everything else is the worst. Pros: Oregon residents get instate tuition if the county you live in borders Washington. Tuition is cheap, but there's lot of fees they add on. The baking program is really good! Total real life experience. Dance classes with Patty are awesome! Majority of classes are well worth your time and money... but not what I would consider college level. The professors are generally pretty good, friendly, and accessible. Online classes are on Moodle, which is easy to use. Cons: The website is impossible to navigate. Class schedule, web registration, and the online student services suck beyond belief. Parking is awful, impossible, and your car is bound to come out looking like it was in demolition derby. Advising is the biggest bitch I've ever met. For some god awful reason you can't make appointments except for like two weeks when no one needs to go. So I've had to sit there for 2 plus hours waiting, and waiting. I've had to do that so many times, because: At points during your time there you have to (as in, must, no exceptions) meet with an adviser to have them basically sign a piece of paper saying your on the right track with your classes. (in the final quarter before I got my degree, I found out you can call the advising office and opt to wave having the advising appointment.) So, it didn't treat me to bad, and I did get a degree but I deffo felt mass amounts of frustration during my time there. read more

I was the duke here for awhile!! Clark college has provided me with a great learning experience. The teachers are knowledgable and very helpful for the most part. They have great food carts that I eat breakfast lunch and dinner at almost every day. (The Chili Dogs are to die for) another great part about clark is all of the magnificent events they have going on all the time, always a good time. There are some questionable characters every now and then but I never let them ruin my experience at this awesome school!! read more

I have officially been at Clark for 4 years now. I put 90 credits into an AA and then decided to transfer to WSUV for Biology so I had to stay and finish a ton of prep coursework PLUS I have taken two years of German here. Overall, in comparison to other schools that I am quite familiar with (South Seattle, Central Seattle, and Shoreline CC), Clark is the best. Overall the teachers are quite knowledgeable, classrooms are standard. Labs for chem are a bit crowded but still manageable. Classes are really cheap compared to other community colleges in Washington state. There is a huge variety of classes, and a crazy amount of them are online, and some over near Fisher's Landing and some at WSU. Now, the usual... advising takes forever if you wait until last minute, but hopefully those going in last minute consider that. Not all advisers are the same, and unfortunately, I have learned the hard way to not let them force me out of the cubicle in a hurry. Make them check and double check their evaluations. This is your life, not theirs. Financial aid is slow but again, that's pretty standard. They just switched to student debit cards, too, and apparently this will seriously reduce the number of actual bodies in the Financial aid room as well as calls. I personally don't care either way. The campus is also very nice, it is pretty, clean, and fun to walk around. The childcare is also by far the BEST in Vancouver, and they just updated it and built a huge new building. Cool teachers, cool rooms :) Anyway, Clark is sort of my home away from home, I really have had a great experience here and will be somewhat sad to leave this Fall. I am only reviewing the registration/counseling center as I have not started classes yet. I just moved to the area and planned to attend WSUV, but with a 12 month residency requirement I figured it would be better to attend Clark for a semester and save myself about $9,000. I went to the registration office and the clerk was super nice, he helped me out with everything I needed to do to find out if this was a good fit for me. I was a little surprised by the $20 application fee for a community college. I went to the counseling office and had to wait about an hour to be seen since they were not taking appointments. My counselor was Mr. Long and he has been extremely helpful. He explained that there is a 30 credit course requirement in Washington. Though I was only one pesky math class away from an associates degree at my last school, in Washington I had a couple more requirements to complete. I will update after classes start and I have the full "student" experience. read more

Racing towards death, as they say. I think parking was free? This was quite a concept to me, as parking isn't free anywhere at U of O. Anyways, parking was easy and I didn't get a ticket. read more

Clark isn't perfect, but what college is? One huge thing I did notice that sets Clark above the rest, is that they really practice diversity. I think that alone makes it a more easy and peaceful environment for people that are maybe a little socially anxious from past experiences. read more

Good value. Instructors genuinely want to see you succeed. They recommend you talk to the department head for guidance on how to proceed. I strongly recommend you take their advice as the instructors can give you wrong advice that can be expensive. The labs and facilities for learning are top notched. Clark has a very beautiful campus and it seems there is always something going on. Little secret, get your coffee and pastries from the student ran coffee shop in the cafeteria. The coffee and pastries are simply amazing and at half the price of the local coffee shops. read more

This school sucks! They don't even have competent staff that are aware of all the resources available to students in crisis. Their misinformation cost me graduating due to finances. Which could have been easily avoided. My teacher was more helpful than the front desk people. Also the counselor Bevyn doesn't seem to care too much because I came in for a much needed counseling session that I had scheduled before and when I came in she forgot to put it in and I wasn't able to get much needed help. How negligent, especially given the job. Luckily I made it through that incredibly rough time in my life, but it was no thanks to Clark College. Such a waste of my time. All these ridiculous requirements just to get as much money as they can from you. read more

This review is for their advising. Im a student at a 4 year university out of state, and am trying to take a few classes through clark while I'm at home for summer. Dealing with clark is RIDICULOUS. If i had to deal with this at my university year round i would literally kill myself. Ive called their advising center at least 12 times at this point, during their hours, and have never spoke to anyone. The button you are supposed to press to be sent to voicemail doesn't work, so you cant leave any messages, and it takes days for them to answer emails. And only one of the options in their menu actually sends you to advising, the rest send you to an outside call center. Ive also been told its almost impossible to actually get in to meet with anyone. I cant wait for this all to be over. At my university there are always advisors free and ready to meet your needs, as it should be. Paying the extra $20K is worth not dealing with this bullshit. read more

I just got off the phone with the administration. People at the front counter are courteous enough, but everyone else seems to treat students like they are ALL 18. The last time I was interrupted and told "what I should or shouldn't have done" this much was that one time in band camp! This condescending attitude extends to the gym as well, where "students" who pay for the privilege to use the weights MUST have a spotter to lift anything over their head!! What part of "signed waiver" does the school not understand? I pay you, I've released you from liability and now I have to bring a gym buddy so I can have grown up time? I'm 38, taking classes for fun and I still gotta listen to your pretentious hogwash? I'm keeping some names. Someday, if I'm lucky they will call me for assistance down at HQ, at which point i will interrupt them in every sentence for 20 minutes before telling them I cant help and its their fault for not reading the fine print. The Disability Support Office does nothing to help students with disabilities, especially students who are blind/visually impaired. Parking is a nightmare no matter what time your class is. Would recommend one of the 3 C-Tran public transit bus routes that provide service to the college. The advising dept. does not answer the phone and if they do answer your email it takes a long time. The p.e. classes are great. Good selection and good teachers. The career center offers a lot of useful workshops and services to students preparing for the job search. Clark does charge a lot of fees for things you have to pay for regardless of if you use them or not. read more

Clark College office staff doesn't know anything about their policies! I just wanted to take one sign language class before I went to a different school that offered ASL as a degree program. I got fin aid to help with the class, but then it was taken away and I wasn't notified for almost a month. First I had to declare a major, I did that, then my financial aid was taken away cause the major I declared wasn't accepted by the school. Every time I talked to the staff they assured me that everything was going to be OK... To make a really long story short I had to drop the class and they are still trying to charge me for the class! read more

Clark is a great place to get a degree path figured out, come back to school, or pick up trade-specific courses. It's less expensive than a 4 year school yet offers big-school expert faculty and dedicated staff with a small school feel. read more

I was a student at Clark from July 2013 to June 2015. It was okay. Hey it's only a community college. The professors were hit or miss. On a sunny day, there is nice views and it is close to the Columbia River and Fort Vancouver. So, you can study by the river on a nice day. I know the basketball team is good, because I was on the staff for them. We won the championship during the 2014-2015 season. Clark is a good place to get the basic classes out of the way. read more

UPDATE: I applied for my diploma in August 2015 and was told that it would arrive in the mail roughly Dec. 4th, 2015. What was already an outlandishly long waiting period is now longer. It is now January 7th, 2016 and my diploma still has not arrived. I asked around and found out that this is a common occurrence. I left a message with the school (because they didn't answer the phone again, big surprise) and will also be going in to see the staff in person. I actually made a Yelp account to express my dissatisfaction with the services offered at Clark College. I recently transferred from another community school, Olympic College in Bremerton. I was disappointed to learn the normal standards there, such as efficient counseling services and online registration systems, were almost foreign here. Twice I've gone to register for classes, only for the system to encounter an error, keeping me from competing to get the first open spots in my desired classes. It took hours to talk to someone who could solve the issue. The counseling services are just as sluggish. Need to see someone for an urgent school matter? Hope it can wait, because you're either going to have to schedule the earliest appointment weeks away, or sit in the counseling center for multiple hours while the tiresome staff slowly filter through a line of students that far exceeds the number of counselors they should have hired. Oh, and don't even get me started on the atrocious parking system. The education is standard, definitely nothing special enough to make the shortcomings of administration worth it. As for the student life, you can find the same kind of stuff at any other college. If you have the choice, I would highly recommend saving yourself the future frustration with enrollment and counseling and attend another school. read more
