At the beginning of April, I made the decision to pursue a private pilot license. I love traveling…read moreand I figured that having the certificate would allow me to access destinations in a shorter period of time and combine my love for adventure and freedom as well as test my resolve and commitment to a new and arduous hobby. Every spare weekend and evening that I've had has been dedicated to flight training at the Lancaster Airport with my trusty instructor, Bob Smith (Robert C Smith). I found him through the Western New York Flying Club, which is a non-profit flying club whose goal is to make flying affordable and accessible to all. For $100/month, which covers insurance and maintenance of the planes -- you get to access their fleet of four airplanes practically at-cost for what it would cost you to own them yourself. You're basically a co-owner of these planes, along with all the other club members. The result? Much cheaper flying and instruction. As part of the club, there are a few CFIs -- those with a certified flying instructor rating who can help you on your journey to get your license. Bob Smith is one of those. A retired guy who has saved my life in the process of training, now...on at least on a few occasions. What I love about Bob is that he will let you make mistakes pretty ruthlessly as you learn to fly (it is a part of the process!), but he always keeps you safe as he's able to judge very accurately those moments when it's absolutely necessary to recover from that mistake. The result? Fast-paced learning. I've logged about 12 hours of flight time with Bob so far and last week celebrated a milestone of my first landing where he didn't manipulate the flight controls at all. No, it wasn't exactly a solo flight, but he didn't touch a thing. I was super proud of that and I'm grateful to have Bob as my instructor. His rate is $50/hour and you must belong to the club in order to access the trainer (unless you have access to a plane of your own), but joining is pretty simple and painless. It will save you lots of money in the long run as opposed to going to a traditional flight school. Another plus? It's super flexible as opposed to a flight school. He's available most weekends and you can schedule a few lessons at your schedule's convenience. I wish Bob would utilize a syllabus a bit more. The lessons feel a bit unstructured at times, but they do all come together. At first I was worried that "I wasn't learning," but after completing that "unassisted" landing in a Cessna 172, I'm 100% singing my praises for Bob. If you're considering pursuing a pilot's license, definitely look into him as one of your options!

My class was the first class where they took on almost twice as many students. This meant they had to cut the clinic time in half for us because they no longer had enough sites to place us at. The long time director knew this would have negative consequences for the students and for the field, and because she opposed this, she was fired. After that things really started to deteriorate and a couple long time teachers began their exit. I felt like a guinea pig for almost two years. There was an extreme lack of leadership and many students came out unprepared due to not having enough clinic time. The only real message Trocaire College gave me is that they ONLY care about money. I got a good degree, and afterwards a good job, but for the price you pay you might as well go to a community college where you'll pay 1/3 the price. save yourself the trouble.

Really though, the teachers we've had have all been wonderful and genuinely care about their kiddos. Yes there is some turnover because it's a daycare center, many of the staff are younger and go on to pursue their educations, but there is also turnover in the clientele because kids grow up. In school, they will have different teachers every year, so that's not been an issue for us. They have a good curriculum that covers all the basics: counting basic reading/writing, vocabulary, and other subjects needed to prepare for Kindergarten, and they track each child's process to find any areas needing improvement. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are all provided. The meals are healthy, and my picky kid actually eats them (most of the time). They have lots of play time and fun activities, including programs where they bring in outside instructors (e.g., yoga, tae kwon do, and music lessons). They have secured access like most centers, a daily report that you can have emailed (or use the iPhone app), and video monitoring of every area that you can view online-- which frankly I hardly log into anymore since it's mainly just peace of mind that they have it. I've always found the administrators to be very helpful and processional. They will talk through any issues and try to make it a great experience for parents and children. They have a summer camp enrollment option with field trips for pre-K age and up for a modest extra fee (younger kids stay in the center but they do themes for each week of camp). Certain school districts will provide bussing here after school for those of us working parents who aren't home by 2:30 p.m. My son has flourished and made lots of great friends here, plus he is very well-prepared to start school. We are glad we made the choice to send him to Doodlebugs!

I had misgivings in the beginning after meeting the school director but put them in the back of my mind after touring the facility.. Now i find the child to teacher ratio is off by a wide margin (sometimes 16/1) in order to pack as many children into a room as possible. And you can tell certain teachers are burned out. I asked one teacher who looked frazzled what was wrong and they told me they were there since 7 and haven't had anything but a 30 minute lunch break until 6.. Take your queue from many others and go anywhere but here.. I dont know how they've managed to maintain their certifications as a daycare; but it should most definitely be revoked

Sounded like a great deal and I messaged her. She instructed me that I had to call the school to book. No problem. My appointment was all set for today (Wednesday) at 3:15pm. On Monday, this girl messaged me confirming my appointment at 2:00pm Wednesday. I said either the lady told me the wrong time or I entered the wrong time of 3:15. But I said I could accommodate 2pm if that's the real time. She said yes 2pm. I said ok see you then and she hearted my comment. I moved some other errands around for after our appt. I arrived Wednesday at 2pm and the lady at the desk still had me at 3:15. I showed her our messages and the lady at the desk said ok well she is here she just finished a client. At 2:12 I messaged the girl I was here, just in case. By 2:30 she never messaged me back and I was still sitting there so I went to the desk again. The original girl who checked me in was gone. Cut to the chase, these other ladies told me they didn't know about all this and the girl wasn't even here (contrary to what I was told earlier). At this point I asked for my refund and left. It is 2:50 now and the girl did just message me to apologize that she was looking at an old schedule (my original appt had to be rescheduled but it was a completely different day and I'm confused by this still ... also, if I state I had the appt as 3:15 I would think it would prompt you to double check the schedule and see who has the correct time). Either way, bummer. Mistakes happen but when a job is literally based on scheduled appointment times that should not be happening. Accidents happen, but after all this, I will not be back and will continue my regular priced services at a reliable location. After reading other reviews, it seems there is some scheduling issues here unfortunately.
