The staff is overworked and domineering. The accommodations are very dirty--I'm talking about bedbugs! Arguments and vulgar language are the norm. We are forced to attend meetings even if they don't apply to us. Is a heart attack the same as diabetes? The so-called "vibe" of the place seems to depend on how much you contribute around the house. I paid to be there, and they received $3,000 for my enrollment. Don't fall for the "Be grateful" line; Claire Matrix you have have failed me. I believe these rehabs exploit the challenges of alcohol and drug addiction. However, there is hope, and it's free. I recommend reading the Big Book of AA and focusing on helping others! I was staying at this disgusting terrible lack of empathy so called drug treatment facility in a ran down motel that's over 50 years old they're a catfish! They enroll you in a decent office then take you around the corner to a shit hole I was sleeping on a mat with springs coming through and tossing and turning when I fell off an 8-foot bunk bed in my sleep at 2 AM due to the lack of safety barriers. No staff was there to assist As a result of the fall, I had to go to the emergency room, where I was treated for bruises and a laceration to my side and arm they didn't return my items and kept my medication this place is as shady as can be! Well it's a rehab but it's boring there's no activities just tv and rehab they take permissions away so it's like punishing rules no outings for goods I thought the day went by slow. Too bad it's very nice and close to beach can improve looks like a by the rule employee type ran. This place is great! All the staff are pretty cool in their own unique ways. I met a lot of cool and interesting people here during my recovery. Some of who I contact and have become really close friends with to this day! I'm sorry if I don't remember names too well. But some of the names that came to mind are Russell for being really funny and nicknaming me Ledger-907. Jason for being captain of our walks to the park and beach and overall guidance. Will for talking me into staying, twice. The 4 minutes to group guy. Chris for pushing me past my limit on exercise days, still working on that one year to claim them pushups. My counselor, I forgot his name but was really laid back and chill. The smart tall bald man, who taught me that learning this stuff is imperative to recovery and life, as I was sleeping. That guy who everyone made fun of but was very thoughtful and noble in my opinion. Brent, the commander and chief of this ship, when what's her face wasn't looking. But seriously there were a lot more characters I can't remember off the top of my head but you'll all live on through my recovery. I'll be honest. I've slipped and relapsed twice since having left the sober living but all is not lost and as long as there's help from supportive people and willingness from within, there is hope. If it weren't for the goodness of a small - very small number of counselors at this treatment center I wouldn't even give 1 star. This place came highly recommended from other private treatment centers. This place accepts medi-cal and they take advantage of the system. But I've already filed complaints with the insurance commissioner of the state and med-cal as well as I have consulted an attorney about this joke of a place that is draining the coffers to fill their pockets. These people do not care about their patients. The clients use drugs and alcohol every day and relapse. Understandably relapse can be a part of recovery. But some clients are allowed to relapse and others not. My daughter relapsed and was thrown out at 1am with trash bags of her things. Unacceptable. Unsafe and intolerable. Men relapse and overdose weekly. Ambulances arrive regularly. My child sat there for 20 days and never met with a counselor until I had to call and complain. My child asked to see a psychiatrist. Never once did they get her help. Yet I was told by their unprofessional staff and call center that she would see a counselor and have therapy every day. My daughter was there for (0 days and 2 times in 60 days is how often she met with someone!!! What a joke! Peoples lives are at stake here!!! Meanwhile they just rake in the systems money, Our tax dollars and don't help anyone. The success rate here has got to be in the single digits!!! Do not trust your loved ones or your own fate to this joke of a place! I wouldn't take my dog here!!! Zero Stars!!!! read more

IF a person is ready to make a change, the CLARE is the place to do it. When I came to CLARE, I was broken, my life was very small and dark. CLARE gave me hope, the tools and the foundation to get clean and stay clean. While there I went thru treatment, got therapy, went to Chrysalis and met some truly amazing and solid true friends that are on the same path that I am. I have 3 1/2 years clean and sober. I wish claire had more interest in the rehab experience that really when it was all said n done a homeless shelter. My first 40 days I experienced more of the rehab I needed. Tge last 45 lack if groups. I was so hopeful that it could help women n substance abuse. My experience has shown my not so. When it came down to their word that also meant nothing. Rules are rules and the addict needes then. No follow thru at all. Finally the food was extremely difficult to deal with. It was terrible. The one true thing I did experience is the love n sisterhood from the girls I was in there with. That is what I got from claire n they had nothing to do with that part. Also they have serious mold contamination issues. Staff confirmed as many were sick along with me while I was there. They call it the claire cold. read more

My husband was treated here for his alcohol addiction. Once he began outpatient rehab, things only got worse. It felt like it was more of a social club for addicts, where everyone was supportive of him relapsing, almost normalizing it. He even came home with new tricks that he had learned from group (i.e. going to "take the trash out" and meeting a doordasher that he had ordered alcohol from). He was relapsing every couple of weeks and the team didn't seem to hold him accountable. Obviously I wasn't there and I understand that this is completely his doing... I am not trying to place blame, just felt that it was important for people looking for help to understand the dynamic of the group they will be working with. read more

I've been in and out of rehabs the past two years and never decided to stick it through. By the time I ended up at Clare I'd decided that I really wanted sobriety and that I was going to complete a program no matter what it took. I had absolutely no support in California. I'd come to the state as a client at a different rehab, which shut down. I was told that Clare was helping clients from that rehab so I reached out and got in, much to my relief. I was done. I came in to build my life up with absolutely no outside support, and Clare knew that. The one and only thing Clare gave me was a roof over my head for 90 days. A lot of the staff were very helpful, yet at the end stepped back and away, leaving me once again with absolutely no support. It took me a month of begging to get my very first one on one with a certified drug and alcohol counselor. It took me three weeks to get a one on one with a therapist in which I had informed said therapist that I have a very strong need to work on trauma. Clare Foundation website stated they provide trauma informed services - they do not. My trauma had already been "opened" from my rehab experience prior to coming to Clare and nobody would even go near the subject. Every time I would bring it up, the "professionals" would change the subject. One of the reasons I was excited to go to Clare was because I was ready to begin tackling my trauma, my primary cause of relapse, once and for all. There is no type of physical activity. The handbook stated that we would have access to a gym and we did not for my entire stay there. We were within walking distance to the beach and we went maybe twice my whole 90 days. It was a nightmare trying to be able to contact my SPONSOR. I had to use personal phone calls to call her, meaning I had no contact with any of my family until I phased up. I was baffled by how insanely hard I had to fight to maintain a working relationship with my sponsor because the staff didn't seem to understand the importance of actually working the steps with a sponsor, rather than just attending meetings. Another reason I was looking forward to going to Clare was that the website made it seem like they would help transition you out, which they definitely did not. They send you to Chrysalis to help prepare you for the workforce and find a job and in that process I found an amazing job. However, as I mentioned before, I really had no outside support and Clare knew that. I mentioned several times that I would need help finding somewhere to go and I received absolutely none. I took it upon myself and actually ended up staying in a motel the night I left after graduating. One last thing... I was on a GR bed and the cut off date to get your benefits back for the rest of the month is the 15th. My exit date was the 14th, but I stayed until the 16th because that's when I got paid. They showed no type of mercy or leniency on my letter and also failed to tell me before I chose to stay until the 16th that all my benefits would go to Clare if I stayed past the 15th. Again, they knew my situation - I made sure to be vocal about it. I had absolutely no outside support. I really could've used the rest of those benefits. Even with my awesome job, I crashed and burned within two weeks of graduating and was put into a position to give everything I worked for up and leave the state and start over, yet again. Throughout my stay at Clare I was trying to help people get in the door and now I honestly say go to Clare as a last resort. For a nonprofit organization, I sure saw a lot of politics and money being prioritized. I heard it hasn't always been like this but this was my experience. I graduated in December of 2016. read more

They threw out his things and are clearly covering their tracks. I wonder how many other 20 something year olds died there. It's too bad that this place isn't run better- so many people need the help. Aside from being disorganized, there are a lot of drugs here and I wouldn't consider it a safe place for any drug addict or alcoholic. The staff seem to purposely treat the clients rudely and disrespectfully. Basically, they are bullies- to people who need emotional support more than ever. I really feel like CLARE failed me and I had to go elsewhere in search of a successful recovery. The sober living is just the worst. I know many men have died there, and that doesn't surprise me. I was gay-bashed repeatedly by the same person, and he was not removed, which is outrageous. I just wanted a safe place to recover. Deanne Sharp, the director of the sober living, did nothing to help me. I was gay-bashed by the same person multiple times and he was not removed from the sober living. Conscious Recovery is apparently run by different people than the sober living, which frankly I think is just something both sides say to avoid taking accountability for difficult situations and decisions. Several of the "therapists" at Conscious Recovery are not therapists; they're interns, many of whom just aren't equipped to help really sick people. Since I left CLARE, I got an experienced therapist, and it made a huge difference. Some of the people at CR are better than others for sure, but there's some luck of the draw as to who clients are placed with, and I wouldn't risk turning your livelihood over to someone who is inexperienced. My experience at CR was a mixed bag. My experience at the sober living was wretched. read more

Clare Foundation is not about recovery. I had a family member that went there for help & we all had so much hope for her but it turned out to be the worst place we could of sent her to. I won't even get into how much money we paid them to help save her life, that's not refundable! Some staff is so rude & mean to the clients it's heartbreaking. I don't know much about recovery but I know punishing & degrading someone does not help them recover. My family member was there for 5 weeks & never met her counselor. When asked when she would she was quickly dismissed & then targeted & began getting write ups for ridiculous reasons. Staff that does care gets treated bad by other staff for caring to much. Rules change daily there. If your trying to save your life go anywhere but Clare. You can't afford to not listen to this review..... Literally! read more

It teaches you how to be assertive, identify triggers, and reach out for help among many other things. No, this is not some high end facility, which I don't agree with anyway. What you get here is REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE. You encounter situations that will continue to aide you once you leave the program. If you want something, ask for, be persistent, and be vulnerable. I am not one to write a review but I think you have to give credit where credit is due. I have to tell you I was a little concern to call CLARE after reading the reviews but also noticed this were from the same time and CLARE has been helping the community since the '70, so I gave them a call and I am glad I did. I called on a Thursday afternoon closed to 4pm and asked the rep for help. He was very compassionate took all my information and told me that the billing department was going to run my Insurance and he will call me back. Well he did within 20 minutes, I had a large deductible and out of pocket and did not have the full amount, I was connected with Veronica and she was great! she explained things to me in a way that I would understand and we worked a payment plan!! I was so happy. I went to Conscious Recovery because they have evening program and morning as well. I loved their offices and everyone was very nice. Their office is clean, and very light, and I got to met Veronica and she was very sweet. I don't think she is a therapist but she was very compassionate explaining things to me and the people there seem to be very happy with her. I want to give kudos to the gentleman that took my first call but I can't remember his name. I only want to say to other people, sometimes thing happen and we shouldn't blame one person or one place. The Clare foundation saved my life. The staff from admissions up to program director were all amazing. My journey started with Maynard in admissions who was extremely patient and loving with me at a time when my mind was far from normal and sane. He walked me through the process, checked up on me and did it without making me feel worthless-- like I was an actual human. Having come from the hospital after an overdose, where I was wrongly treated like a useless drug addict with no value, his honest and genuine care for me (even though he had never met me) showed me the hope I needed to get through this difficult time in my life. I also have endless gratitude for the amazing staff who kept me going when I wanted to give up-- Delilah G, Queenie, Michealeah. Some of the strongest women I have ever met and inspired me to never give up. Christina in alumni is also amazing!! She is a true gift to that program and keeps us all connected everyday, even after we've graduated. The woman's program would not be what it was without these women and especially the program director Leslie. She was an incredible example of doing what is right, and always had our best interest in mind, never treating us like we were a business transaction- truly supporting us in our journey of recovery. Well...I don't know we're to begin. I was looking for a place to go after my relapse earlier this year. I entered the program and had quite a bit of anxiety. Let me tell you that my anxiety grew worse while there. There is this women who works there that only looks for you to break a rule.. What ???????? Crazy. There is no exercise, I know one particular counselor would take us for walks as often as she could. The groups are at times up to 40 people in a room not big enough to accommodate us all, it is hot and smelly. Anyway I'm going to stop because I could go on forever with negative comments. Whoever is running the women's house is not......it needs a change.you have good people not getting noticed for actually really caring and are probably why some people stay as long as they do. As much as this is hard for me to do but i have to say that I have had the worst experience at this facility. I have a family member that relapsed and needed help. From the moment I started to call and get information I had nothing but terrible communication. For almost a week it was a back and fourth drive with the same bs excuses. There was a few staff members that was a big help. So my family member was indeed very sick from the relapsed. This person was not in the right state of mind and was 5150. Both psych wards did not know that my loved one came from a Clare. After trying to get answers I was being lied to. I'm in the same line of work I understand that it's a business but to look at clients as a dollar sign is just wrong. People seem to forget where the hell they came from.
