New library is great. Amazing atmosphere and very comfortable for studying. My only complaint is the treatment of secondary school students by a handful of staff members of the library. Certain staff speak to secondary school students in extremely patronising and domineering ways. For example, often times when I whisper quietly to someone else - usually asking them a question regarding schoolwork - I am loudly reprimanded at and told that this is a study area (I am aware of this and I use the area as such). There have also been instances where I am packing up to leave when it's closing and I am asked condescendingly to "pack up and leave" WHILST i am in the process of packing up and leaving. I've noticed a difference in the way that these particular librarians talk to and treat children from certain schools compared to how they talk to and treat other schools. It's clear that these librarians hold some sort of prejudice against these schools, and it doesn't matter how quiet and respectful they are, they are still met with patronising treatment from the staff. I come to this library to study for my leaving cert and this behaviour is distracting me from my study and makes me dread going to study here. read more
