I will never come back unless I just want a pint outside and will double check the pricing since it's clear the workers here are utterly oblivious.

However the staff can handle it and even seem to be unusually cheerful for Wetherspoons staff. I'm not sure I'd visit here first of the pubs available in Falkirk, but it's not bad, and it's always nice to know that there's a place available with cheap beer and plenty of seats.

One of them (I don't know his name) was a bit of a local historian and he told us about the history of the building and showed me some of the old pictures on the wall. It was named after the famous Carron Ironworks here, established in 1759, which became Scotland's largest industrial complex and dominated the area for 200 years. Perhaps a little dark inside or maybe it just seemed that way because we called in for a meal on a bright sunny day. Despite the history and pictures I felt this pub lacked some of the character and more attractive surroundings of some of the others we've come to know.

My first gripe is that they placed the sandwich on a panini press with the lettuce inside. Ughhhhh. This made the lettuce all soggy and inedible. Second, there also used to be cheese on the sandwich, which although not a typical item on a club sandwich, I thought this was an excellent addition. Third, what happened to the skinny frites? Perhaps it was the time of the week/year and they were out. Either way, my personal preference was the skinny fries, cheese and toasted bread. I'll still frequent the Argyle, since it is my local and as far as drinks and atmosphere go, it's great. However, i'll be hesitant to order my favourite club sandwich again. At least they have burgers!

The the stafff are friendly enough and the customers are usually locals who use it as their standard drinking hole. I pre-drank here with my flatmates a few months ago on a Friday night and, whilst it was busy, there wasn't the great, vibrant atmosphere that you get in some other smaller bars. They do have wall mounted TV screens which show the latest matches and the drinks are pretty well priced, but it's just not really my kind of pub.

It was a Monday, and trivia night, so it was crowded. Good food and good beer, trivia was hard. (Name the fast food chain with most outlets worldwide? Name the top ten grossing Tom Hanks live action movies. That kind of thing - didn't need to be Scottish to play). A huge bonus that we didn't fully appreciate until a week into the trip - they offered skinny fries, which we yanks think of as fries, as an alternative to the thick cut chips that are included in every meal in every restaurant in all of Scotland. Okay, we have not been seeking out Michelin restaurants, but I sure long for some mashed potatoes with my chicken sandwich. Also, really friendly staff at the Old Bell (because we had literally just arrived, we didn't have two pounds in order to join trivia night; they said no worries, and just added it to our food and drink bill). The pub itself, looks just like a local pub - bar and lounge area at the side, nothing fancy but homely on a wet and windy Friday night. Drinks are reasonably priced - £3.60 for a small glass sauvignon blanc and around £2.80 for gin and mixer. Wine sometimes is something that traditional pubs struggle with (another glass of vinegar, eh, no thanks!) but this wasn't the case as the sauvignon blanc had just the right amount of zesty, refreshing bite and there were several choices for non sauv blanc drinkers on offer. Pub munchies with post work drinks are another danger, but a good range of crisps and nuts on offer and not weighed down by a huge markup. All in all a fairly decent local pub and I probably will return, given its proximity to work.

I can't describe it but recommend that you go, even if only for a pint. It's not a wide open pub with loads of seating and elbow room. It's a place you go to to feel like you're in a proper pub. Smallish but well stocked bar, good options on tap, and really reasonable prices. Gin and Hendricks, £3.50. Pint of Amstel, £3.80. I went this past sunday with my last £4.00 from the wild weekend, and got myself a pint of good beer. And why not! Because through the back, is a smallish room full of character, good banter, laughter and even better music! The Jammy Devils play here, typically, every Sunday. Not the full band mind you, drums wouldn't fit. I'm actually very excited to be reviewing both this pub and my favourite Scottish band. They play such a diverse and exciting range of hits, that you can't help but jump up and dance to, even in such small quarters. They are funny, natural, and incredibly talents. I can't hear 'Sunshine on Leith,' and 'American Pie' and not think of the way they sing and play it. Sometimes...better than the original artists. Sunday evenings here are my ultimate favourite of the week. You see familiar faces, that always say hi, and it's a great pick me up from the weekend you might have just had. A great way to close the week, or begin it. If I could, I would go every Sunday evening. It's not a late one, get there early, about 6 for seats through the back, otherwise you are left standing. But I suppose that is part of the charm, it gets so rammed everyone just laughs about it. The band begins playing about 7, and finish about half 8. Enough for a couple pints, laughs with friends, and the overall good feeling you get to singing along to quality music.
