Clanfield is a beautiful village and this pub is a great spot to call in, sit and enjoy a pint. Their garden overlooks a crossroads in the middle of the village and you can watch the world go by against a backdrop of towering horse-chestnuts and old Cotswold stone houses. Oh, and the dodgem which had just arrived for its annual visit when I was there tonight.
The bar is modest in size and ambition but they nearly always have three good, well-kept cask ales on the pumps. Their taster deal - three one-thirds of a pint - is a great way to sample the selection if you can't drink too much.
The food is generally pretty good and they have a good dining area away from the bar, although this being a Monday, it was fish-and-chip night: a limited menu for take-away consumption, although you can eat in the garden.
The service is very friendly and welcoming without being overwhelming. All in all, a good English country pub. read more
