These conditions became apparent only recently and baffled our son's school officials and us. In spite of many parent/teacher meetings and to our dismay, our son's struggles continued and even worsened. Less than a year ago, we lost my father - our son's grandfather - and we attributed this to his difficulties. However, much to our heartbreak, our son continued his downward path. It was at this point that my wife and I decided to seek professional help. Desert Marriage & Family Counseling was strongly recommended to my wife through her valley business network. We met with Kelly Lewallen, LMFT, and were greatly impressed by her professionalism, knowledge, and manner in which she explained a very delicate condition. Her handling of this heartbreaking episode in our lives was nothing short of miraculous. She was introduced to our son and quickly established a rapport with him that was kind, gentle, and reassuring. Moreover, she gently but firmly assured two worried guilt-ridden parents where the root cause of our son's difficulties lay. Needless to say, my wife and I were much relieved to finally know the real cause of our son's issues. Kelly then brought to bear her professional staff member, Kasey, to begin setting up a plan that recognized our son's condition and would allow him to fully utilize his scholastic skills and lead a full and satisfying life. Kasey immediately connected with our son and he was enthusiastic about his school plan. When we met with school officials, staff member Kasey accompanied us to present the plan she had drawn up as well as answer questions raised by the school officials. Currently, the school district is evaluating this plan but we are very glad to see that our son has re-engaged his schoolwork and is doing much better. When I spoke with Iris she said she would check for any availabilities and unfortunately there were no providers available at that time. I guess I made sort of a distressed sound since the process of trying to get a counselor had been going on for weeks and had been very frustrating but she told me that she would look up our insurance and see if she could find any doctors that maybe we hadn't heard of before and would text that information to me. She texted it less than an hour and a half from my phone call and I was sincerely surprised because literally do I do not usually speak to such nice people and then they do me a favor, a big ask, without even me being their customer. To be honest on my very first phone call we were able to get a therapist and we have an appointment with next week, and an appointment a week for the next month. I felt that Iris went way above and beyond for somebody she didn't even know and those are the kind of people that should be rewarded and thanked and normalized. Now, she is fully telehealth. If you're looking for therapy, then you know how incredibly hard it is to find someone and get an appointment! With Dr. Bantz - Setting up my appointment was easy. She does take insurance. I called my insurance company myself to confirm she is in my network and they even told me she is up-to-date on all her licenses and certificates. I've been to a psychologist before and the first appointment was just filling out paperwork and brief background of myself With Dr. Bantz, she got a bit of my background but then dove right into why I was seeking out therapy and such. I really felt the entire hour was productive for me. Dr. Bantz gave me a little bit of "homework" to look into and to write things down that I may want to discuss the next time we meet. So we shall see how this goes. So far, so good and just by the first meeting, I without a doubt recommend her. As an FYI - as of today, 5/11/2023 I know she does not take Kaiser insurance.
