these guys are great. I brought my CD spark to them as my local dealer was booked out more than a month and needed it back on the water ASAP. They did their fair share of troubleshooting and it worked with me side-by-side to move forward on each step and I was able to provide them parts along the way to save $$. They put in way more hours of work than what I actually paid for at the end of the ordeal. Will definitely be back, trustworthy and old school laid back shop. read more

CJ Marine - Boat Repair Near Me - Kent, Washington

If you really want to live a nightmare, this is the best place... awful, expensive, and they don't do the job... I asked for an adjustment to my boat, they charged me for the entire tune-up, and surprise, I was stranded in the middle of the lake... and they checked my boat and nothing had been changed... the manager there is a rude, arrogant guy, and dislocated in mind and body... please don't go... read more

I had a recent motor problem on my sled, I called several different repair shops, all were booked nearly a month out due to the time of year. CJ's was booked as well, but said to bring it down and they would squeeze me in to diagnose issue. They were prompt, courteous and lived up to their commitment. They got back to me later that day with the details on what was the issue. They ordered part, I took boat home, brought back when part arrived, and they installed while I waited. Boat runs perfect. They did exactly what they said, and saved me quite a bit of money. read more

Don't come here!! This place is terrible, I took a PWC to get fixed here took it out the next day after i received it and it broke again, I took it back and they insisted I broke it by getting the starter wet when no water got inside nor did i flip it the PWC. Turned on once and never turned back on. We also settled on a price and turned out I had to pay way more than what we agreed too. These guys are also very rude and bad at business, I would not recommend, take your business elsewhere! read more

A man with a Green Seqoia with a decal for this buisness was incredibly rude to a local buisness I patron. Even when they went out of their way to look for a product for him he continued to be nasty. After reading other reviews I see this gentlemen driving this vehicle has had similar issues. Might want to rethink advertising a buisness on your rig.... read more

I don't know if the service provided by this company has any value, however, a green Sequoia with a rear window decal of this organization just cut me off horribly on Military Road South in Federal Way. One star review. read more

CJ Marine is very solid outboard/inboard boat repair shop located in Des Moines and is a stones throw away from the marina. I've taken my 17' Boston Whaler here for at least 4-5 years now and they've never disappointed. They've always been honest about the time and cost of all repairs and their mechanical work is top notch. They've rebuilt an old Evinrude 90hp from saltwater damage and have found some hard to find problems. Worth the trip to Des Moines to get your boat fixed! read more

Chris & team are the epitome of straight shooters, and really good at what they do. The quotes are always within reason, and I've never had any surprises. Most importantly, they've earned my trust. When I did my "get it running" appointment (couple years back) on an 80's Evinrude outboard that had sat for 10+ years, I was shocked to get a call saying it didn't actually need the carb rebuild that they initially recommended based on the timeline. I got my boat back within days, running perfectly, and for less money than I expected to pay. Fast forward to '21, when they called saying they needed to go a bit deeper on a different job to get it right, knowing I could trust them made the spend substantially less painful. read more

I worked there until my car broke down. Before I could pick up $1,550 worth of what were my tools they were loaned to some asshole who never came back and they left me with the bill. Does that sound like a legit business? read more

These guys are hacks. I do not know who gives these guys five stars (they must be their friends - I can bet on it). The owner is an awful person. He lies and then lies about lying to cover up his first lie ... it is not even funny. When I brought my boat it was in better condition than when I took it from them. The engine does not run as fast, the entire bimini top was torn, and the fiberglass itself was visibly damaged in different places. Also, the price they gave me at the beginning was not the price I paid at the end (they overcharged me). They tell you something is wrong but then after they work on it, they somehow 'discover' new issues that did not even exist before. I came for a simple thing and ended up paying a lot of money. Simply put, they are a rip off and a fraud. Do ourselves a favor and go somewhere else. read more

This guy sold me a outboard motor and claimed it had hardly been use'd and they had gone threw the whole thing to ensure it's performance. So far I have replaced the magneto, Fuel Filter, Spark plugs Replaced the throttle linkage and cleaned out the carburetor. He sold it to me with a broken propeller and a faulty fuel tank with broken sending unit. For a 1500$ motor I expected much more. Instead I have spent more time working on it then running it. I work full time and rarely have a chance to go fishing, and thanks to this ass hole its been a shitty fishing season for me. About 275$ in parts an not to mention the time I have put in it. I'm NEVER!!! buying any thing from this place EVER again. CJ's marine is making there money by ripping people off. read more

WARNING: SCAMMERS!!!! the little guy at the front desk is a professional scammer. He is also extremely rude and unprofessional on top of that. They WILL STEAL your money and try to find anything (even if there is nothing wrong with your boat) to charge you extra money, and if you do not pay them, they would sit on the work to delay you and get you to give up and just agree to pay anything to get your boat back. This was a NIGHTMARE for us!!! It was a huge relief for me and my family when we got our boat back from them. I really HOPE and PRAY that you would not be that UNLUCKY to end up going to them and having go through what i had to go through. Please STAY AWAY from them and good luck with your boat! Many thanks! read more

I love this place. The owner is a great guy and always been very fair with prices and back up their work!Miss them in Des Moines:( but will follow anywhere. read more

Always had good luck with the winterizing of my boat and minor repairs on engine when it had starting issues. I would recommend CJ without hesitation. read more

Thank you Chris and CJ Marine! My 2005 Kawasaki jet ski was having some major acceleration and idling issues. Had already taken it to another water craft servicing facility without success. CJ on the other hand identified the problem within five minutes! My jet ski is now back on the water performing better than ever. Highly recommend Chris and CJ Marine! Thank you. read more

Chris and Joe are amazing!!! I brought a boat in for some TLC and the guys went out of there way to help and repair. I can't say enough about their willingness and knowledge in taking care of their clients. Jim F. read more

I have worked with Chris (and Joe) at CJ Marine for 15 years...these guys are the BEST in the business for customer service, quick response, fair pricing, great workmanship, and pride in a job well done. I have referred them to anyone that will listen to me and all are happy customers...they truly go the extra mile to make you happy, a rarity in today's world. I have complete trust in them (from rescuing my dead boat to turning a job around exactly when they say they will...again, a rarity). They are a full service shop (will trailer my boat, take it in/out of the water, winterize, clean, paint, repair, tune, etc., all while trying to save us money...I never feel nickeled and dimed, and have NEVER been overcharged). I love CJ Marine :) read more

WARNING - CUSTOMERS BE WARE!!! This place should be steered clear of. I have tried twice to purchase merchandise here only to have the old bait and switch. When I call the employees are nice enough with decent pricing, when I show up the parts are damaged and scattered, the store is a mess, the price went up both times, and I am pretty sure the guy I tried to talk to last time was still wasted from either the night before or a morning drink. There is a great shop in Olympia (Tom's) or in Centralia (Olympic), and take your pick in Seattle/ Tacoma. Just stay away from this one. read more

I have substantial doubt they are qualified to work on any boat repair as they are the type that change one part at a time until it is fixed in the meantime racking up exorbitant part fees and questionable labor costs . You'll be taken for a ride with these guys as I went through the same costly hassles as others have described; they pretty much haven't changed their ways over the years. They'll lure you in by saying you can bring your boat in the next day and their somewhat sense of speedy service will soon dissipate when they will fail to get back to you and begin their long quest to indecisively replace parts that you did not authorize nor have anything to do with the nature of the problem; they will essentially take your boat hostage with a huge ransom to be paid for its release. read more

This business is terrible. I brought in a small 2 cycle outboard motor to be started and tuned up. When I went back to pick up the motor, they said that the motor was too old and that they could not get it running, but they when ahead and charged me for the start up service anyway. I took the motor to a marine shop in White Center and they performed the start up service with no problems. I went back to CJ Marine to get a refund for the mechanical work that they did NOT perform. The guy just looked at me and said GET OUT. I left, feeling that I'd been cheated. read more

These guys are hacks. I asked them to look over an old boat I purchased. I told them I had a 1000 limit on repairs. I specifically asked one of the owners to put all his attention "aka money" into the motor. They looked at the boat got back to me saying the motor needed a water pump and a standard summer tune up. They then (with my approval) did 1100 in repairs to the rest of the boat. When I put it in the water it literally ran for 4 minutes before the motor completely melted down. Luckily I had paddles with me to make it back to shore. When I took it back they kept the boat for two weeks without calling me back. I finally called them to find out the motor was dead. They claim the thermostat wasn't working. Clearly they only ran the motor for a few seconds or it would have melted down in their shop. I am guessing that it is more likely they put the wrong water pump in it. Either way they said I was being "rude" for being upset about them not checking the motor properly. I basically spent 1100 with them and ended up with less of a boat then I started with. read more

Take your business elsewhere. These guys have caused me so much grief because of there failure to complete the work to the point where its just plain negligent. DO NOT take your boat or trailer here! read more

i bought a boat from one of their customers and took it back to CJ Marine to go through all systems to make sure i didnt have any problems once i was out on the water. They had installed a new motor a couple of years before i bought the boat. after spending close to a thousand dollars i took the boat out for the first time. after about 30 minutes i checked the engine compartment (I/O) and it was almost full of water. They didn't tighten a simple clamp on the exhaust and flooded the bilge. Salt water ruined the starter which had to be replaced which i took to a different shop. They let me know as they were doing a tune up because it wasnt running smooth that i had 2 cracked cylinders. I wouldnt take anything to this shop! they have no eye for detail. The way the exhaust was leaking there is no way they even ran the motor. HACKS is what they are, this shop sucks!! read more

Beware! The owners Chris and Joe run a very unethical business! I took my boat in and was promised to have it fixed within 2 weeks, it took 5 weeks. They promised to meet a quote from CSR Marine (much, much better option located at the Des Moines Marina). CJ Marine fixed about half the things they were supposed to! I tried to make contact with Chris but he was always busy and would get back to me. In total it cost me about another $3,000.00 to get my boat fixed after CJ Marine's "repair". I would not even give these jokers a 1 star! Oh yeah, they left my boat a greasy mess and missing parts that I'm sure they borrowed off my boat and trailer while it sat in their lot for 5 weeks! You'll be better served at CSR Marine or Haury's Marine in West Seattle. read more

Brought boat in for repair and they promised to make estimate in 2-3 days. Estimate took over 7 business days. Should have known then. Following this the owner Chris said that they would have it done in a week. Of course they did not touch it for a month. I watched my boat sit in the lot for this entire period and it did not move. Also I called once a week to see the progress and every time was told that it would be done in a few days (end of the week). A total of 6 weeks went by before repairs were made. Also the cost was 50% over the original estimate. I did not receive a call that they would be going over the estimate. There is only 3 repair people there, two owners and a guy with 3 years of experience taught by the two owners. Overall they were dishonest with time estimate for repair by at least a month and went way over estimate without notifying me. Would definitely not recommend. Note that I have asked around the Des Moines Marina and found a couple of people who have had the same experience. Much better served with CSR. read more
