This place is brand new. I have been on pins and needles waiting for it to open and it finally is! We went for a date excursion last weekend. The location of Civil Axe is excellent. It is right on government street near lots of restaurants. The experience itself was really fun. After you get over the shock of throwing a sharp object at a wall and the resounding bang sound it makes it is exhilarating. It's sort of like bowling meets a gun range. You don't have to be great to have fun but it's an adrenaline rush. The guy who showed us how to throw the axe was great. Good sense of humor, didn't over complicate things and encouraged us while we were there. It was pretty empty when we were there, only one other group. Things they could improve on is it was silent except the loud slamming of axes against the walls. Some music would have been great. The mostly silent room made it a little awkward. Also, when painting a room black the drywall has to be PERFECT or it shows every imperfection so it made the venue look worn when it's actually new. I had no clue we were supposed to tip the instructor (which consisted of less than 5 minutes of instruction and rules) and we had no cash so we couldn't do it anyway so we left feeling a little guilty. A dedicated iPad to fill out the waivers would be a smart edition as well. I hope they get the kinks all worked out because it was really fun!

This place is so fun. I'm literally a 110 lb girl and I was scared I wouldn't be able to even wield an axe. After a few throws you get the hang of it! I advise you to make reservations, but each stall has two boards to throw at and it allows for up to 8 people. In the beginning, Madison Elliott (I think that was her name) gave her spiel and clearly explained how to throw the axe! I appreciated her funny joke where she explains that she's got a medical license but she doesn't actually want to use it so please don't hurt yourselves! It literally took 5 minutes and we were good to go. It would be so much fun on a date or to bring a bunch of your friends. They let you bring in your own food. They do have a little fridge that holds some of your basic bottled drinks if you didn't bring any. I was also scared that it would ricochet back at me like that crazy viral video, but theres almost no way. The black mats on the ground stop it from bouncing off. If there's too many axe cuts in your board, they also change it for you.

Called and booked a different kind of date night. There was a quick tutorial and about 15 minutes of learning the technique but then the fun begins. A one hour session is about $22 per person but that was more than enough time. We are both competitive so we decided to go check it out ourselves before bringing friends which we definitely will next time. Mid City Beer Garden is nearby so we grabbed some happy hour cocktails after before dinner at Elsie's Plate and Pie. Lots of great options all nearby in Mid City/Government area. (Masks were required at Civil Axe upon entry but not required when you are throwing in your own lane -since we were early 4pm appt -we had our own. You can bring beer and snacks if you want just no hard liquor)

Decided to try something new and so glad we did! We booked online and it was so easy. $23 a person with tax for an hour. Each party gets their own lane. It's so much fun, you just have to get the hang of it. You have to sign the safety waiver before all else. The instructor was amazing and gave us extra help and attention because we needed it. It became a good workout. You can bring your own food and drinks in. You can even do private axe throwing. I haven't laughed this hard in years. Will totally be back and telling all my friends about it.

Definitely the place to go if you're looking to try something new! Making reservations online was quick and easy. $23 per person for an hour (which is plenty of time!). Arrived on time and was immediately taken to our lane, after signing an online waiver. The staff gave us a quick and very informative tutorial on how to throw while staying safe and then allowed us to do our thang! Threw some axes to decent music in a fun environment. My arms definitely got a good workout Will be back!

We are hooked after our first visit! We had no idea what we were doing but Mikey showed us the ropes. Our 14 year old son actually put his phone down (almost) the entire time and had fun. Great place to bring your friends (and wine) or family.

    I did it!
